Considering Gurman's track record over the last couple of years looking at it, he's the last person I'd pay any attention to when it comes to Apple's release schedule. He's repeatedly got them wrong.

A new bigger iMac will launch next year is all I would go in. I wouldn't even guarantee a new MacBook Air next year at this point.

Agree, the 2015 'macbook' was a flop because it was a thin obsessed John Ive vanity project trying to answer a question no one asked:high end design sub notebook with under powered intel processor and a $1299 list price..
Umm, then you've misunderstood me, I loved the Macbook design (minus the chip), but by the time I've boarded the Apple bandwagon it was already dated.
My hunch why the 'macbook' was a failure because the original intention was for it to be the first mac os device to use apple silicon but the engineering team was not happy with the performance hence used a potato intel core m 4.5 watt processors instead.
In my opinion it was designed for a chip Intel promised but failed to deliver. Just like the 2018 Air redesign. And these Intel shortcomings led to Apple Silicon.
low range- education market bias: bland imac, 'macbook'(no touch id, 60hz screen, using old M1 chips)
mid range- consumer level range: fruity colored M2 Air, ,M2 imac
high range- pro content creator range : xyz-pro exclusively using PRO/MAX chips
This still misses a product I was talking about: a lightweight notebook for non-gpraphics pros, a mac version of dell xps and likes: a professional, small device around a kilo (preferably under) for managers, it people and scientists. A macbook retina with m2, which can drive 2 displays and pack 32 gb ram.

I really think M1 MacBook Pro needs more upgrade in order to distinguish from M1 MBA. So far, it's just expensive than MBA and yet, no other differences. Removing M1 MacBook Pro will create a huge gap between MBA and 14 inch MBP.

Instead, it would be nice if M1 MacBook Pro get some upgrades
- 14/16 inch MBP design
- MiniLED with Promotion
- Up to 32gb of Unified memory, 16GB for MBA
- More ports
- Magsafe for faster charging
- More base storages

Otherwise, I dont see any reasons of buying M1 MBP.

I think you'll find that the 13" MacBook Pro will be scrapped at the same time they update the MacBook Air to the M2, it makes no business sense to keep a 13" MacBook Pro with the same processor as the Air in an outdated design.

If there would be another event this year, it should be for the Mac Mini and iMac Pros

I don't think you will see another iMac Pro. The last one was only made because it was cheap for them to do and it was a stop gap till the new Mac pro came out.
I think what will happen next is a new bigger iMac and Mac Mini with an M2 chip, maybe they'll update the 24" iMac to the M2 too.

and a new iPad Pro to launch after the calendar turns to 2022.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So safe to assume a March 2022 event for that? I was going to get the 2021 ipad pro(to upgrade from my 2018 one) but after reading about the blooming issue with the screen I held off

They do need something in that price point. They could replace it with a 14” MBP with M2 and maybe a few other features left out.

I really wish I knew whether they will release a new Mac Mini this year. I need a new stationary computer but would feel silly if I bought the Mac Mini M1 and then the redesign with M1 Pro would be dropped a month later. If they would just come out and say ”in March” I could just buy one as that is 5 months away.
That’s hard to call. From the Gurman rumors in May, it was clear that the mini was being prepared with the MBPs, but not clear when it would be launched. I suspect that the product is ready but that they are struggling to get the parts that they need to ship as many MBPs as possible. Since they probably make a higher margin on the MBPs, they’ll prioritize them until they get past the crunch. Unfortunately for Mini fans, that means that Apple could launch them any time between now and March(?) and may not schedule an event but just do a press release.

The “all new design” worries me a little.
If that’s true, I really hope they keep the wedge shape and don’t just make it one thin sheet. The wedge shape (to me) is a large part of what makes the MacBook Air the MacBook Air. Plus, it’s just soooo comfortable for typing.

16inch MBA please. Ultralight (perhaps no aluminum if it makes it heavier than 1.3kg)

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that he doesn't expect Apple to hold another event or make any other major product announcements this year, while turning his attention to what we can expect next year.

MBA-white-rounded-mock-2.jpg

Apple held an event in November 2020 to introduce its first Macs with its custom-designed M1 chip, but Gurman believes Apple has nothing else left of substance on its roadmap that would be ready to launch before the end of 2021.

Gurman believes that a new MacBook Air with an entirely new design and an Apple-designed M2 chip will launch in around six to eight months from now. He believes the upcoming model will represent the biggest redesign of the MacBook Air since 2010, with a rumor earlier this week claiming that the notebook will have a similar design as the 24-inch iMac, including off-white bezels around the display and a variety of color choices.

Gurman also expects a larger iMac with Apple silicon, a new Mac mini, a new iPhone SE, and a new iPad Pro to launch after the calendar turns to 2022.

Following the unveiling of redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple's next-generation M1 Pro and M1 Max chips this week, the only Intel-based Macs remaining in Apple's lineup include a low-end 21.5-inch iMac targeted at the education market, the 27-inch iMac, the high-end Mac mini, and the Mac Pro tower.

27 inch iMac is rumored to reveal on Q1,2022. I guess there should be a March event.
That would either be the new iMac Pro or just the current iPad with a desktop chip inside? It would be interesting if they decided to call the new desktop chip line as D1, M for mobile and D for desktop. Now what about the MacBook Air, will there be a new Air or just a MacBook? If they decided to just name the new notebook as just MacBook and keep the current Air around (just lowering the price a bit), then what about the iPad line naming scheme? If they were to call the new notebook, Air, then what would they do with the current Air since the new Air is suppose to cost a bit more. If they were to rebrand the current Air as SE, they would have to somehow be able to differentiate it between the current Air to justify the name change. They could update the M1 to be an M1x or just use the M2, but if they just use the M2, then what would be the reason to come out with a new Air? Seems like there wouldn’t be that much of a different between the two notebooks to justify having both in the lineup. It would be strange if they just rebranded the current Air as MacBook and came out with a new Air, but then again, they could find a way to justify it. My guess is they will just differentiate the 2 Airs by their chips, MacBook Air M1 and MacBook Air M2, which wouldn’t be bad as long as they either lowered the price of the M1 a bit or have us more at the same price since the M2 will likely cost more.

Mmm… one mac event after another I doubt it, think we will see the last of the transition at WWDC now, where Tim Apple can flex that the 2 year transition to Apple silicon is complete, I expect the Mac Mini to be launched as a site refresh between now and then though.

I expect in March we will see:

iPhone SE
iPad Air
Watch SE 2
AirPods Pro 2 possibly…

WWDC I expect…

iMac Pro
Mac Pro
Maybe new pro display

Then September having the usual iPhone and Apple Watch launch

Then October M2 announcement with the MacBook Air, Mac Mini, iPad Pro lines refreshed… that’s my prediction
M1 iPad Pro and M1 iMac released on April so why not M1 Pro/Max iMac and Mac mini?

I'm really more interested in the direction they're going to take with ARM and their GPUs. They're already at the edge of what you can do with the process node.

What improvement can M2 make over M1 on the space die space?

It would be great if they added a desktop Mac that falls between the mini and Pro. With a larger case than the mini and big quiet fans, they could push the performance of the M1 Pro or Max beyond the MBP.

The event before that was a ‘Mac’ event but it was mainly about the M1, it just happened to appear in old styled devices.

The iMac was apples first Mac designed around the M1 so needed stage time, and in general Apples spring events tend to gear more towards consumer devices not super high end pro devices.

2011 - iPad 2
2012 - iPad, Apple TV
2015 - 12” MacBook, Apple Watch
2016 - iPhone SE, iPad Pro 9.7
2018 - iPad Pro
2019 - News+, TV+, Arcade, Apple Card
2021 - iMac, iPad Pro, Apple TV, AirTag, Purple iPhone

So as you can see for the last decade Apple haven’t released anything high end pro in their spring events, every spring event to date has focused on general consumer items, yeah they have had the iPad Pro in the past but I wouldn’t exactly class that as a prosumer device, it’s more of a high end consumer device in its current state, similar to the iPhone Pro line up.

I also think that the iMac only appeared in Spring 2021 due to covid, I think it was likely originally planned to launch alongside the other M1 machines in the event before it.

M1 Pro/Max iMac is NOT a high end Mac in desktop. It never was.

It does make sense for the new M2 Air to be released late next year... after they've first release the new Mini, Pro, and iMac Pro. And to release the M2 at around the same time as the M2 Pro/Max/2Max/4Max chips. I can imagine that now they have control of their chips, the established designs like the 14/16" MBP, and 24" iMac will come with simple annual iterations just like the iPhone does, with each M-version update matching the A-version updates, and other minor spec updates to make people want to upgrade.

I'd like to see Space Grey coming back to the iPhone Pro, so we can have matching iPhone and MBP colours; and also iPhone and MBA/iMac colours matching would make sense too. It would be clever too, as it would get people upgrading both at once. They could even do the same with the AirPods variations too, etc.

no white bezels please, do not mind the color for external cover areas (top and bottom covers)

please leave the screen and keyboard areas with out different color options
just like the iPhones where screen area is same color where outer case is colorful

leave the tapered design untouched please, it is awesome machine with M1/M2
14.2" same display like MBP
start with 512GB SSD
Magsafe and additional TB port and sdxc slot (HDMI may be too big for tapered design)
and option for 32 GB RAM

Considering the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets are considering high end or prosumer chipsets, I think the M1 Pro / Max iMacs will likely have a starting price of about $2000 or even more depending on if they make an M1 Pro Max chip or something else which further pushes the limits of the M1 chip line up.

I highly doubt they are going to showcase a $2000+ product at a spring event which has pretty much always had consumer end devices and never prosumer focused machines.

The closest they have ever come to a prosumer device in Spring is the iPad Pro which I think most will agree is not a prosumer device and more of a high end luxury consumer device.

Yeah 100% we won’t see M2 anything until M1 is fully rolled out now… they don’t want confusing media reporting of M2 M1 Pro M1 Max all fighting for headlines.

In regards to refresh cycles, it’s hard to say what’s going to happen, I think at least initially almost all M chip devices will get 24 month refreshes until the M chips start to become more established and we get over covid and chip shortages.

I don’t expect the entry iMac for example to get refreshed with M2 until early 2023 or the just released MBP’s getting refreshed until at least late 2023.

Unlike iPhones people don’t tend to upgrade their Macs or iPads for that matter as regularly, most upgrade their phones yearly or every other year, whereas Macs and iPads tend to only get upgraded every 4-5 years for most people, therefore there is less reason for Apple to continually refresh the M chip line up on a yearly basis…

I expect:

Early 2022 - Finish M1 Pro / Max line up
Late 2022 - Start M2 line up
Early 2023 - Finish M2 line up
Late 2023 - Start M2 Pro / Max line up
Early 2024 - Finish M2 Pro / Max line up

Etc…

I think both, the 13" MBP and MBA, will be discontinued and replaced with a 12" and 14" MacBook. With the 12" being fanless.
