What would make most sense is for Macs with "Pro" in the name to have M? Pro or better processors... which is also what would give them more ports, support for additional monitors, more RAM etc.
Pro should mean pro!!? And what exactly does pro mean? Are we talking pro video editor, pro musician, pro vlogger, pro coder, pro creative writer, etc, etc. There will be pro’s of all variety using Apple laptops and desktop, and probably just as many people buying the ‘pro’ kit that don’t predominantly use their machines for work related tasks.

I'm sure people were making money (aka being a "Pro") with iBooks so that not what this is about. The M1 "Pro" makes little sense now as it has the same specs as the Air and will go even closer once they remove the touchbar.
Spec it up a bit (if you need more than an Air you will most likely need more RAM and storage) and you get very close entry to the level 14" (which comes with that extra RAM and storage as default).

So no I don't see the need/place for a 13" Pro. If Apple wanted to have a MacBook priced between the 13" Air and 14" Pro I would suggest something with a bigger screen while retaining "Air" specs.

I think that, even with Intel Macs, the only reason the entry level 13" MacBook was called "MacBook Pro" was the (just) "MacBook" name had been taken by the 12" ultra-light MacBook.

Nice theory.... blown to pieces by the 13" Retina Pro starting in 2012.

I really hope they remove that touch-bar on the entry level Macbook Pros; it's preventing us from purchasing Air instead, but we would prefer the better battery life of the Pros. Not going to happen though, until the touch-bar is no more.

Please let this be the announcement for the 27" or larger M1-series iMacs. I am literally like Fry holding out my stack yelling "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" here. If I can buy that in the first half of this year, and work issues me an M1 Macbook Pro like I suspect they will, my life will be complete.

Agreed. What Apple should do is keep the MacBook Air M1 in the line-up as their entry-level MacBook offering, reducing the price to $899. The new MacBook design will slot in above at $1,099 or $1,199. It will have the M2 chip as well as all of the other rumored changes.

In addition, Apple should (not saying they will - but they SHOULD) bring on a 15" MacBook. This new family would eclipse the necessity for that 13" MacBook Pro configuration.

This would seriously quell our Apple product line-up OCD proclivities...
MacBook Air 13"
MacBook 13" & 15"
MacBook Pro 14" & 16"
Simple. Done.
This would be ideal

What is the point of iPad Air? Very thin and super light? Very-very thin, super-duper light, and 15" screen would raise some eyebrows, instead of ?

Showing a new powerful Mac mini could also show new monitors

The climax, the new Apple Pencil

They would surprise everyone if the new AirPods Pro appeared at the spring event

Tim could wear a shirt made of $1,000 bills stitched together

I expect a new Mac Mini with the M1 Pro/Max simply to allow them to drop the remaining intel Mac Mini. The only reason they are still selling it is to accommodate those that need more than 16GB Ram. Don't expect any design change as some think there will be, not at this stage anyway.
intel mac mini is often used in servers. they might actually have a useful for some people.

Entry level MBP should not exist. Pro should mean Pro.
I agree! Anything more just waters down the product line.
Frankly, though, these rumours are getting more and more a case of "Pope still not converting to Buddhism" and "Bears still relieving themselves in the woods". iMac and high-end Mini to be replaced sometime this year? You don't say! M2 Macs coming in a year or so? Well I'll be!
They've been trying to get the pope to convert simultaneously to Buddhism, Podiaology, Scientology, Global Warmism, believing in The Force, AND Atheism! That guy's really resistant!
I hope you're right... Apple's been dragging out the drama for this Imac Pro (or whatever it's called)... If it does come out, there better be a silver or space grey option...
Me, I'm all for the "silver black phantom bike"!
It seems like Gurman is just repeating what we already know. At least now we have a date for the event to look forward to.
There's one other thing we know too. There's not going to be anything named "M1X". Instead, we have the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

Me, I'm still up for using Cars song titles for upcoming Apple silicon releases. As far as I know, "Candy-O, I Need You" is still available!
I hope Apple will introduce some new colors of the Mac Mini. That would be awesome.
I could get on board if there were some glitter options available. I could get on board for black with gold glitter. Or red with gold glitter, to match the code-name Candy-O. Who's on board with me?

I had been holding out hope for the M2 Air to upgrade myself, but ultimately shrugged and went with the M1 Pro MBP. Either way, it'll last me at least five to seven years...
Me too, and my M1 Max MBP just got charged to my credit card, so I know it's probably going to ship in a week or less. There IS one thing that could cause me to upgrade that MBP sooner, rather than later: An M2 chip (or whatever the name ends up being) with unbiased ray-tracing/rendering GPU muscle built-in, or specialized CPUs that can do that work. Like Nvidia's CUDA standard.
I have a sneaking suspicion the Mac Pro will stay intel for a few more years.
As Yay said (I think it was she who did), Apple did say that it would take 2 years to complete the transition from Intel to Apple silicon.
I have M1 MBP with 8GM of ram. Am seriously considering an M1/M2 Mini to use alongside it because having too many Adobe apps open eats up the ram. Not just the ram but the scratch disk too, I got the 256GB model...
And that's precisely why I bought the M1 Max with 64 GB Ram, and the 8TB drive. I don't play! At least people have stopped thinking there was gonna be an M1X chip...
...I should probably save for the M1X instead.
...oops, I spoke too soon!
Maybe it has to do with the chip shortage? Shortage of components. Apple did say it will take full 2 years to complete the transition.
The chip shortage, outside of Apple M1's sphere, is going to ultimately kill demand for AMD and Nvidia GPU chips, and the GPU cards built on them.
Goodbye touch Bar
You were a gimmick
At least it’s over
Hope no one mimics
LOL! We see what you did there... ;)

Just got my battery replaced on my late 2013 mbp since it works perfectly fine for day to day tasks and my folks can use it as a spare. My M1 mbp with touchbar is working fine and I like the battery life. I will wait for 14"/16" v2 iteration next year i hope and see what upgrades it will bring. The most excited i am is for the mac mini. It will replace my mac pro 5.1 which is on its last legs.

An event just for spec updates? Me thinks not. Gotta have at least some mention of a mac....Right?
Mac releases have been approx six month interval's since nov 2020. So this is a additional short event just for couple of product updates. Look for macs later in April or as late as early May.

Pro Tip to Tim and all other Apple presenters: Dispense with the "praying hands" gesture when you start to speak and introduce the product or concept. It's old & outdated, annoying and Apple is supposed to show new innovation rather than same old, same old. TIA
Better yet, ALL HUMANS should stop with the "praying hands" gesture! I've noticed it happens a lot when you catch somebody trying to screw you over or rip you off.

A couple summers ago, I had some construction work done. It was turning out to be lopsided because the workmen, none of whom spoke English very well, were going to mount my lighting electrical boxes off-center and not level with each other.

The dude was VERY resistant to correcting the error before completing the job. The difference was between removing 2 or 3 bricks NOW, remeasuring the space and redoing the wrong part, versus having to remove 2 dozen bricks LATER, after I would have refused to pay for that uneven mess. Believe me, it wasn't a language barrier preventing them from understanding me. It was their resistance to admitting they made a mistake and their hesitance toward doing the right thing.

All I had to do was bring out my phone and start dialing their foreman, who was at another site at the moment and who DID speak English, and then OUT CAME THE PRAYING HANDS. Eventually they fixed it, but not before I had to spend another 60 seconds watching the praying hands and putting up with the genuflecting, having to listen to "I'm sorry" repeated thrown at me in a language that wasn't mine.

All I wanted was for them to do the right thing without me having to force them to! Praying Hands; the sure sign of bad business being perpetrated by the guilty, for sure. If you EVER have to do "Praying Hands" in front of a customer, you might consider that not only did you really really REALLY mess up, but you compounded that by not taking the first opportunity to correct your mistake, which just further annoyed your customer!

Last year's Spring event was just 1 hour. It's not limited to just hardware, I'm sure they will talk about software too - including iOS 15.4 and iPad OS.
The current 15.4 iOS, 15.4 iPadOS betas don’t even see beta 2 until about 2 weeks later (Feb 10th). Because this is paired with the new MacOS 12.3 with universal control, along with several observed bugs, there is not a chance it will be completed until sometime later in April. Certainly not a mere month from now.
