The headset is dead in the water if we need to rely on Siri.
Speaking of the headset, I suspect that this is the reason they are taking off the “hey” trigger and making the trigger word just Siri. Apple must know that now the virtual assistant will be triggered even more easily and accidentally. They just don’t care because it has something to do with the headset. It’s all about the headset.
Unless they also allow you to say HomePod Siri, iPhone Siri, iPad Siri, this will be a constant disaster.

Also please please please can we have different phrases for different devices. So tired of wanting to talk to my HomePod and my phone or Mac then picks it up. So annoying.
Are they on different iCloud accounts? For me when multiple devices (including HomePod) pick up hey siri it always halts the prompt on other devices and default to HomePod.

Apple may announce a major change to Siri that would move away from the "Hey Siri" trigger phrase currently required to invoke the virtual assistant hands-free at next week's WWDC keynote, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a new tweet, Gurman reiterated that the change to the Siri trigger phrase may be among next week's announcements. In November, Gurman reported that Apple is working on a way for Siri to be able to understand and respond to commands without the need to use "Hey Siri" as a trigger-phrase. Instead, users will simply need to say "Siri."The change would bring Siri closer to Amazon's voice assistant, which can be triggered simply by beginning a command with "Alexa." At the time, Gurman added that Apple is also working on deeper Siri integrations with third-party apps and services to provide better assistance thanks to additional context.

Gurman initially said that the changes to Siri are expected to roll out sometime in 2023 or 2024, but his latest tweet suggests that it remains a distinct possibility for WWDC next week. Apple's mixed-reality headset is rumored to feature voice controls, so improvements to Siri would likely go hand-in-hand with the announcement of the new device.

LOL my watch hasn’t required “hey siri” to speak up for months. Now it’s completely random and unwanted

I think this is a solution looking for a problem. Does anyone have a problem saying “hey” first? I have heard that Apple may customize the phrase so you activate Siri how you want (eg. “Hello Siri”) which would be better. Just saying Siri, as other people have said, would activate it intentionally all the time. This happens with Alexa, where people even have to whisper if they say the same but don’t want it activated. Can you imagine if “OK Google” was just “Google” to activate Assistant?

All the same account but it tends to use the device closest to me, sometimes. Othertimes I actually just want to use Siri on my phone and the HomePod picks it up.

It would be so useful to have an option to have different listen phrases like you can with Alexa. Or the ability to modify them so if it picks up the wrong device I can say for example "no, listen HomePod" or "no, listen Mac"

Customizable trigger would have been better. I’d like to be able to use “computer” like they did in Star Trek (and also pre-Mac OS X).

Absolutely, a solution looking for a problem. Yet so many Siri and HomeKit reliability problems to solve. Heck, the thing confuses my voice with my wife's ... I have no idea how to sort this thing out.

Apart from solving the real problems mentioned, that would be innovative per se, actual innovation would be to support multiple call signs as per apps installed on the network ...

Say a Macrumous app is installed ... to interact with it ... "Hey Macrumours, what's the latest news?". Say I have Microsoft Outlook installed ... "Hey Outlook ...". ... wikipedia, Google and so on. That would be interesting ... per app branded call signs. "Hey Siri, play X on Spotify" makes no sense ... better would be "Hey Spotify, play X in the Kitchen" .... " Heck even "Hey ChatGPT, ...." Multiple call signs per App installed, instead of having one Dumb all encompassing Assistant". "Hey Home, ...."

Now this would be in my view a scalable platform for voice interaction platform and AI on top of an app ecosystems. Instead of an all encompassing assistant ... "sorry something went wrong ...." Where?, don't know, just something".

Don't think TC reign has been that good for us customers that invested in the ecosystem. Rising prices, sometimes mind boggling rises, along with less robust and reliable platform ... regular reliability problems hard to understand for such big prices.

Cheers,

Nuno
