Few weeks ago I was watching a YT video on my iPad and at some point it triggered Siri on my iPhone. I jumped back the video to the same point and played it again, and Siri was once again triggered. There was nothing even close to "Hey Siri" on the audio of the YT video. Tried several times, always the same thing. Very weird and funny!

I know there may be an aspect we’re missing, like the dynamic island with the “pill hole”

But if this is truly how this seems, to me it’s the perfect representation of the Apple of today. Trying to make a Raft feel like a yacht instead of taking the time to build a ****ing boat

It’s worth keeping in mind it’s not the number of words but the syllables that is important. Alexa has 3, Hey Siri has 3, these can be more easily identified and is the reason Amazon chose the Alexa name. Given Siri only has 2 makes this much harder.
You can have other trigger phrases instead of alexa -- mine is "echo" for my Echo Show. 2 syllables and handled just as well.

What a shame when your entire fan base constantly ***** on your abilities. I know there was an article recently about how the core architecture was extremely limiting, but get it together, Apple. You have the money. Figure it out.

Sure, it would probably a technical achievement and make siri use a little less awkward - but if I'd make a priority list of problems to fix with siri, this probably wouldn't come before place 50 or so.

Just today it couldn't even tell me the time on my homepod. "This is taking longer than expected". Really, you can't even process that on-device?

I just wished that everytime I told siri that it was completely useless, a recording of the interaction that led to it would be sent to the manager being in charge for that and that he/she was forced to listen to it.

If the headset needs siri to work properly, apple is f****.

P.S.: I read news and try to incorporate "hey siri", "o.k. google" or "alexa" everytime I get the chance (unfortunately only every few years) :) .

I really hope they change Siri so that you can invoke it with a personal customized word or phrase, like "Listen, microcephalus..."

It's also for privacy (not that a stranger with a similiar voice to mine can ask prompts to my phone, not knowing what my special word is), and reliability (the other day someone in a movie said "Hey Siri" and my homepod activated).
Removing "Hey" is not a solution, it would just make things worse.

How about we make Siri more reliable, useful, etc. in any quantifiable way before we add complexity to the trigger phrase...

Bingo!

Setting a basic reminder via Siri on CarPlay is usually hit or miss. Never mind trying to get it to set a specific reminder like “hey siri remind me to get milk Wednesday at 4 pm and put it in my grocery list as a high priority”

Also please please please can we have different phrases for different devices. So tired of wanting to talk to my HomePod and my phone or Mac then picks it up. So annoying.
Siria

99% of my interactions with Siri are accidental vocal triggers on my iOS devices and accidental pointer clicks on my Mac devices. The other 1% are TRULY horrid and I don't understand how Apple has continued to allow Siri to exist in the state that it does.

It's essentially useless, especially in comparison to other products like it.

Wow truely revolutionary
Well, I can tell you my experience with Alexa wasn’t good at all. All you had to say was “Alexa” and she would respond. There were more than a few times when whatever was on TV at the time called out Alexa the box would start talking. In particular there’s a female wrestler with the WWE named Alexa Bliss. If I was watching and the announcer yelled her name my Amazon box would start yammering.

I hope Apple does NOT remove the trigger phrase.

Mercedes did have a huge issue with introduction of MBUX in late 2018 when only using "Mercedes" as a trigger word for their voice assistant. They switched to "Hey Mercedes" there after.

Of course this isn’t really comparable as drivers/ passengers would have used that particular trigger in passing conversation, akin to Apple not using Siri, but rather "Hey Apple" or just "Apple".

Who wants this?
I do. Using "Hey Siri" is not that bad in English but our local version uses an equivalent of "hello" and greeting her multiple times in a minute trying to get a simple request right is maddening tbh. It feels very forced and unnatural on top of all other issues.

We have an assistant developed by a local company that doesn't have 1/10th or Apple's resources, yet their assistant activates with a name alone, offers an alternative name if the main is used for someone else in your house, remembers context so you really only need to use the name once in the multi request interaction and actually provides information you ask it for. It rarely misfires too.

Siri feels unusable in comparison and Apple's inability to fix it confuses me to no end. Removing the greeting won't make all other problems disappear of course but it would make trying to work around them a tiny bit less frustrating.

Oh god, even with "Hey Siri" being the trigger phrase she's constantly getting woken up from all sorts of things, like whenever someone on TV says something like "a serious situation" or "a series of events" or the like.

I can't see this change making that situation any better.

This. I hate when my iPhone answers when I want my HomePod so I don’t have to specify the room name.

Great news! Now Siri can be more like my wife: Triggered more frequently when I say words like 'Serious' instead of her name, interrupt me and then provide absolutely no useful information whatsoever.
I may have pinpointed your marriage issue, and it’s not one you listed.
