Too funny.

So many people cheering when Apple loses many millions in fines and judgments. But then cry up a storm when Apple tries to recover some of that with ads. Be careful what you wish for. Also...with so many people hating Apple maps why aren't they finding happiness with google maps as it's so superior?

The good news is there are other competitor tech manufacturers to embrace for goods with your currency. Simply vote with your wallet. Pick one and find happiness. Though no doubt that will never happen.

I wonder how many wings of that trillion dollar donut are dedicated to the Apple Maps division? Maybe if they laid all the “programmers” off who create this trash iPhone prices would go down!
so are you attacking apple or are you talking the programmers?

Why Apple?
The money you earn from ads must be less then the money you’ll lose from folks leaving your platform because of the ads. You will also lose credibility as a non tracking, privacy first company and also lose repeat customers.

No ads please.
Doubt anyone is actually gonna leave because of ads my man

Feels quite far from the so called “Apple DNA” But then again there are ads in the App store which are clearly marked as ads.

In light of the fact that we pay a premium for Apple products, which I'm happy to pay for premium products, I expect the included apps to be free of annoying ads! And just when Apple Maps was getting better. Guess I'll have to go back to Google if I find I'm inundated with ads in Apple Maps.

(If you don’t agree to this, add your own comment with opposing view rather than disliking this one. This is my opinion.)

As long as main results are not suppressed and the ads are clearly marked and few in number, I’m fine with this. I trust Apple to not sell identifiable user data so no issues. We can’t escape ads anyway. Hoping Apple would pave the way for better ad handling.
These are my thoughts exactly. I use Waze and there are these types of ads. I don't feel bombarded or taken advantage of. I just ignore them like I do with most things

Expect this to only get worse. Apple cannot continue to sell more iPhones than the year before indefinitely. They’re looking for more ways to expand their revenue to keep their year over year growth positive. After iCloud, Apple Card, Apple TV, ads are next.

This is just the beginning.

If Maps finally going to show directions for bike-rides in my country (with millions of bikes) I will see if I am going to even use this app. So far I haven't.

O, and offer a paid option to get rid of the ads.

Agreed, governments should stop enforcing their laws and protecting consumers so that Apple won't be forced to sell ads after only earning $19.4 Billion in profit last quarter.

hopefully with the extra money in their pockets, they chop the cost of ram/ssd upgrades by half

I already pay $1,000+ for an Apple phone every couple years.

Honestly... how much extra money will Apple make from me seeing ads?

It's one thing if a company's revenue is mostly, or all, from ads. See Google, Facebook, etc.

But Apple sells expensive hardware. So I can't see the extra $20 or whatever being worth the consumer backlash after they already spent a thousand dollars on the device.

Literally no one will leave the apple ecosystem because ads appeared in Maps.

It’s a bad thing for Apple to do but it isn’t going to cost them any customers.

thats the point though - there is nowhere else to go - which is why apple can pull this one off.
theres gonna be backlash though.

When going cross country, I use a Garmin RV1080 GPS. The maps are continuously updated and specific trailering information is displayed. No ads.

All vehicle built in GPS systems only get updates for the seven years required by Federal law. Then you have dead weight in the dash that may be correct if there were No changes to the roads or other local traffic details since the update service terminated.

I discovered maps.me while on a long driving trip (9 weeks and seven countries) from the southern tip of South Africa to Nairobi in Kenya. While in the Namibia desert, there was no cellular service so the GPS was driving the application. It would display short dirt roads that branched off the current dirt road we were on. No sign posts anywhere the eye could see.

I keep Google anything off of off all my computer equipment. Perhaps we will be able to delete the Apple Map app to slow down being tracked.

There is a program for the desktop Macs that lets the user block all the "calling home" by application. The apps that fail to work with the blockage are deleted, no matter how good they were. By default, the blocks can also work on Mac laptops which is beneficial.

Well, they can use the revenue to make the product better and cover more details instead of having just a few cities with Look Around, etc. I have trained myself to not even see ads anymore with all digital media so it won't bother me.

I rely a lot on roof level satellite view but for areas in central london the views are so out of date up to 2 years in places whereas Google maps have current information and greater zoom - so Apple maps in my opinion needs a total overhaul before I rely on it for accurate data

Nasty, the premise has been no ad’s/ Why become another Xiaomi/Samsung, for the $ ofcourse. Poor company
