Apple turning to ad placements in their signature apps is worrisome and will diminish the experience of using Apple apps. I’ve started to use the Maps app more often, but I won’t depending on how obtrusive these ads are. Maybe Apple thinks people are used to ads in other apps and continue to use them so why not join the ad party?

One of the worst ideas to come out of Tim Cooke’s Apple since the butterfly keyboard and the half decade they refused to acknowledge it was a terrible idea.

There are better and smarter ways to make money. And this opens the door to all the advertisers and their anti-trust claims.

bad for customers, bad for apple vs regulators, inconsequential amount of money. Stupid x3.

Last time I checked, looking at your phone while driving was a ticketable offense, looking at a paper map on the other hand, perfectly legal...
Right? A map the size of a sun visor is completely allowed. Of course the passenger was usually the one reading it. But now I travel alone. Won’t see me reading one while driving.

The money you earn from ads must be less then the money you’ll lose from folks leaving your platform because of the ads. You will also lose credibility as a non tracking, privacy first company and also lose repeat customers.

oN ads please.
Where are people going to go?
Android?
Lol.
Apple already has ads in Music and News and Stocks and the Appstore and it hasn't hurt them yet.
They have nothing to worry about.
Personally, I thought Maps already had ads, since there's usually suggestions when I search, so nothing will be changing for me.

Too funny.

So many people cheering when Apple loses many millions in fines and judgments. But then cry up a storm when Apple tries to recover some of that with ads. Be careful what you wish for. Also...with so many people hating Apple maps why aren't they finding happiness with google maps as it's so superior?

The good news is there are other competitor tech manufacturers to embrace for goods with your currency. Simply vote with your wallet. Pick one and find happiness. Though no doubt that will never happen.
There's a contingent of Apple fans who are doing the exact same thing you're doing: trying to justify behavior they've railed against for years. You should stop it. Apple is going to continue to increase their advertising efforts incrementally and methodically. They see the revenue and profit. They've always seen it. Now they just figured out a better way to attain it. Bit by bit. They are going to boil the frog slowly so it won't even realize it's being Cooked. ← see what I did there.

Point is Apple is going to increase their ad services. Stop making excuses for it. Just acknowledge that you are the product. It's okay to disagree with their decisions. No need to try to justify it.

Welp, guess I will not be getting iOS 17 or macOS 14.

Edit: Kinda want to blame the EU for forcing USB C, I think Apple is adding ads to compensate for the loss of lightning.

Disappointed actually very disappointed! I pay 'Apple prices' to get a premium user experience not one where ads are being shoved in my face!
Mmm… Please no ads in the Maps app.

I even think it's irritating enough that Apple TV+ gives me suggestions of other shows before the end titles has been shown or even that they gives suggestions of other games on Apple Arcade to try. Please just leave me alone – don't be like the others when it comes to this Apple, think different(ly). :)

And that’s just it, some may be misinterpreting “ads” as in your face pop up’s that get in the way of buttons. It won’t be Angry Birdz 😝

Like you said, suggestions, that have already been there. But I don’t think it’s going to ruin the experience.

Privacy is the next thing to go.

Privacy is already gone and has been replaced with strategy. Some time ago Apple's Federighi said that health data should not be stored in the cloud – now Apple promotes to store our passwords in iCloud (so we are locked into the platform) which is much worse (and by the way these passwords may also be used for accessing health data).
