Aren't ads going to be used to track users which goes directly against the privacy first philosophy of Apple?

Apple Maps is an example of the opposite of the norm. Apple copying something that was already well established, and doing just great without Apple. I despise Apple Maps so much. It’s awful, awful, garbage.

I wonder how many wings of that trillion dollar donut are dedicated to the Apple Maps division? Maybe if they laid all the “programmers” off who create this trash iPhone prices would go down!
It might be slightly inferior to google maps, but I wouldn't describe it as garbage. It's still very useful and there is less crap on the screen when you open Apple maps vs Google maps.

Heaven forbid we get a maps app that doesn’t have ads because the company that produces said maps app also sells phones for an enormous profit.

Always wanted to move to Apple Maps, only because Goole Maps has become really tedious with all the crap that shows up on the map. Won't happen I guess.

Well, hopefully apple uses the additional revenue to improve, expand, and fix their maps software. Would still really love to see apple maps come to the web so I can access it in safari.

I had the same positive experience: reporting an issue will result in a quick fix.
I've sent in several needed corrections and while they were all eventually made, sometimes it took multiple attempts to get apple to make them.

If they put ads in their maps then I’m really lost as to the point of Apple Maps. They’re already less reliable than Google Maps and worse for driving than Waze. And now they get the added stigma of ads in stock apps and privacy violations (whether real or just perceived).

Weird move from Apple.

“I’m speaking to you from Silicon Valley, where some of the most prominent and successful companies have built their businesses by lulling their customers into complacency about their personal information,” said Cook. “They’re gobbling up everything they can learn about you and trying to monetize it. We think that’s wrong. And it’s not the kind of company that Apple wants to be.”

-Tim Cook, 2015
Apple would only be monetizing your personal data if they were collecting it and selling it to other parties. Simply selling ads, even ads based on your location isn't what Tim's talking about here.

Boo, Apple, booooooooo. Really hope the is wrong. Apple spamming its loyal users with ads would be very sad, many of whom like the platform in the first place for its general lack of them.

A lot of ads let consumers know about sales, discounts, and special offers or include coupons that save us money. So if the ads are relevant to what I've searched for and save me money I don't have a problem with them. I just don't want apple selling my search history to anyone else or keeping a record of my searches either.
