The M2 is currently the fastest chip in the world for web browsing. It has the highest score to date on Speedometer and it's a lot higher than M1. I don't understand why downplay the M2. I use the M2 MacBook air and the M1 iPad Pro and the M2 is slightly better at handing complex web apps in Safari, like Google Docs and Google Sheets.

No design change for the case, but what about the dynamic island, or thinner bezels like the Galaxy Tab? Would that have been revealed already?

I know this sounds dumb, but that would make it an instabuy for me. A thinner bezel iPad Pro 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Nothing. You’re not expected to update every cycle. Especially not iPads.
I don’t think Apple would share your same sentiment. Apple will always do something just a tad different to make folks want to upgrade regardless whether it be a convenience feature (magsafe) or changing something people have always complained about (dynamic island, usb c).

I really wish they'd bring out an iPad Pro with the front camera centred along the length. I mean they made a special keyboard for this iPad, which makes it feel like and function like a MacBook, except the camera is at the side and not the top, so everyone you Zoom with sees you looking to the side instead of at them. It doesn't make any sense. Or what would be even better is to add the new feature that they're implementing in macOS Ventura, whereby you can mount your iPhone at the top of the screen to use its camera with the iPad. That will at least solve the problem, especially for those of us who are already stuck with camera on the side.

I bought into the hype with the M1 (Not apple's fault, I bought into the marketing hook line and sinker). So now I have the M1 12.9 2tb Cell version, and I like it for being an ipad (An overkill for sure). But it taught me a valuable lesson in not jumping in head first base on what I "Thought" was coming. So I won't be upgrading, just holding onto my OVERKILL IPAD. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THIS THING, but won't be upgrading until Apple makes iPadOS more inline with the power these iPad Pros have. I see no point, Literally my 12.9 iPad Pro and my iPad Mini can literally do almost the same things with all things considered.

Sorry, but the speed increase from A14 to A15, A15 to A16, M1 to M2, it's not felt in light tasks like web browsing. It just isn't.

I don't want to harsh your placebo effect, but no, it's not a significant difference in user experience. And that's fine, it means that all of Apple's latest chips are really good.

I am curious about this refresh. Probably not gonna upgrade my M1 iPad Pro for what seems like a very minor upgrade, but I am particularly curious about the MagSafe implementation on iPad. Will it be closer to iPhone MagSafe or MacBook MagSafe? The latter seems more likely, but I still have a hard time to imagine how it will be designed

Why just get the m1 it’s cheaper you wouldn’t notice anything that the m2 would bring the m1 is already over kill

That is exactly what I'm holding out for, as I have some apple gift cards I plan to use up in order to bring the price down. Unfortunately, I'm afraid Apple will just remove the m1 altogether which would make using the gift cards pointless as I would have to buy from another retailer.

I think at least half of this hype was because of how crap the Intel Macs were. The iPads and MacBooks couldn't have been more different in terms of computing power, speed, portability, display quality, noise, heat, etc.

Now that there are MacBooks that you would actually want to use instead of an iPad, the landscape has changed a lot. Once I got my hands on a 14" MacBook Pro, I completely stopped caring about trying to make my M1 iPad my main device. I still use the iPad, but only for what it's best at.

Same boat. Whatever they do, it'll be interesting.

Completely agree with this statment!

My 2017 iPad Pro is still kickin. It’s more than enough for what I need. But I won’t lie that I’m always a little tempted when new iPads come out.

What could possibly make someone upgrade from an M1? New color, front camera location change, magsafe…
Ummm. Nothing. And not meant to.

iPads have never been a yearly purchase/upgrade.

In some industries, eg edu, iPads are indispensable. Any teacher worth their salt uses them daily. Typically lasting several years, they’re a solid investment.

I have a feeling it will have to do with the Magsafe “puck” ecosystem, especially given the recent mysterious firmware update :)
