I’d love to pick one of these up as I had a 2020 pro and miss it dearly, but the concept of having an iPad with a better processor than my laptop with how basic they are sounds incredibly silly. Maybe a refurb 2021 M1 is for me.

I feel like this is going to be a pretty boring upgrade, even if it got dynamic island there would probably be an event.

What could possibly make someone upgrade from an M1? New color, front camera location change, magsafe…

Different number painted on a chip they'll never actually see. ;)

But they will know.

And what if friends or strangers find out they don't have latest & greatest?:eek:

Will they release an iPad version of Final Cut to go with it?

That would've warranted an event.

But we're closer than ever. iPadOS' new desktop class features and the M1 and M2 iPads easily capable of running Final Cut, all that's needed is a new storage paradigm for Final Cut. While some iPads have 1TB, most do not and these days that's not enough for 4K video. Guessing iPadOS 17 will introduce virtual storage that looks local but offloads to the cloud gradually when on WiFi and brings files to local storage when anticipated, making it all feel seamless. That would break down the final barrier to Final Cut Pro on iPad.

people people…

there are millions of folks out there that have iPads that are 2-5+ years old. those are the people that will likely upgrade.

and if people with the M1 want to upgrade? oh well. some people want the latest and greatest. disposable income is still a thing. resale values for Apple stuff is still high…

it shouldn’t be difficult to understand lol.

I’d accept an increase in weight of the keyboard if they decreased the weight of the iPad itself. The 12.9 quickly gets painful to hold when I use it like an actual tablet.
I agree that it’s a bit heavy when help as a tablet, but that may be more an issue of the awkwardness of holding tight to such a small area at the edge of the screen. There should be a counter balance type rig for holding iPads or maybe magnetic grips that would be easier to hold.

I think they’d just set the system requirements at “1TB storage or greater”. Not everyone will want to use Final Cut Pro on iPad, but those that do wouldn’t be buying a 256 GB one.

I don’t know. If they brought a bronze color to the iPad I could be intrigued. Like this example.

What is he going to play on Steam on a Mac? I love ‘em dearly but they’re useless for games.
Games like Timberborn and his current obsession, Kerbal Space Program, where players build and launch rockets (he's September keynote excited about Kerbal Space Program 2, which will allow colonizing and building on other planets). So he's not yet into games that are "better on PC" - a fact I'm all too happy to let reveal itself (or not). I'm hoping a new(er) Mac mini will perform better than my mid-2014 MBP that is very long in the tooth, while not breaking the bank (he wants the Mac Studio - lol). Basically, his "first computer" (if you don't count his iPad). 😉

They have not announced a chip replacement upgrade nor an iOS update for my iPad mini 2 in several years. Sad!
