Ok Man thanks for the analysis. Apple’s business success is without peer.. Apple doesn’t have to tell you “why” they price as they do. You may seek other alternatives. I want to apologize to this forum and those of lesser economic means for being just fine with Apple’s suggested $3000 pricing for the coming Mixed Reality headsets and the $1000 Apple Watch “Pro”. I regret having made enough money to purchase these devices of wretched excess. To atone for being affluent, I am going laiunch a Go Fund Me campaign to buy Apple Watch “Pros” for the poor. (And write it off of course). Apple’s cruelty in not pricing for the Bourgeoisie should be called out!— LIfe is unfair. As it should be!

You are weird. I like it.

The price resentment of Apple high end products is a reflection of the economic disruption for many.. Many who complain here should move to low price non-Apple consumer products. They’ll be much happier.

Spot on.

"Many who complain here should move to low price non-Apple consumer products. They’ll be much happier.

Respectfully disagree on that. While moving to competitor products would be the smart and logical thing to do, staying with Apple products gives them purpose having a good daily whine about Apple, and provides happiness and power, feeling they're sticking it to the man. Power and happiness that's otherwise lacking in their lives.

This seems interesting that you can dynamically: so at its basic level: without working out with GPS, you can get 21 days… or that’s how I’m reading it; may be an incorrect reading though

Whoa, solar charging! I need to check out non-apple stuff more. I guess it's like android phones having all the features years before but Apple comes out and makes a big deal out of it.

If those additional sensors could include blood-pressure and blood-sugar monitoring then even at a $1k people would gobble it up. But those aren’t really “sport focused” features so I think it’s unlikely that’s what they are talking about.

You must be the wealthiest guy on this board! Amazing the wealth you have accumulated!

Would you consider a base AW for day-to-day usage and use the Fenix for working out?
I am still considering it, there are things about the AW that I use that the Fenix just doesn't do. If the Rugged Apple Watch can keep up with long workouts and I can find a decent solution for biking (my Power Meter is Ant+, so...).. then I'd use only it.

That said, training is now, and I would never plan my goals around the hopes of a future tech release, so its the Fenix for now.

but yes, I miss Apple Pay (just use the phone, I know), shared wifi (Fenix doesn't show notifications if too far from my phone in my own home, etc etc)

Page after page after page of silly pricing discussions … quelle surprise. Apple stuff is expensive, news at six. 🙄

But not one post about which metal could/would be „higher-end“ than Titanium. Which is the really interesting question arising from this report.

This would look a bit more reasonable when compared to the $18k rose gold watch edition making its comeback!

The Apple Watch line-up currently consists of the following:

Series 7 - the flagship model. Currently, the sports version is likely the best selling model due to its low price and lightweight form factor. The stainless steel version is more expensive, heavier, and people are likely more conscious about keeping it out of harm's way. I am using the aluminium version without a case and my experience is that the paint chips pretty easily.

SE - less expensive, with fewer features. Perhaps geared towards cost-conscious consumers and children.

Nike - geared towards casual runners, or users who sweat a lot, don't want to spend extra on a nike band and don't mind the more limited selection of colours.

Hermes - plays in the realm of traditional luxury.

If you ask me, an Apple Watch "pro" would be geared towards removing the hesitation the remaining consumers may have about wearing an expensive piece of electronics on their wrist as they engage in rough activities. Setting aside extreme sports such as rock climbing or weight-lifting, I can think of a number of daily activities which put the Apple Watch through a fair amount of abuse, from gardening to washing dishes to even occupations such as firefighting.

This makes a pretty good case for an Apple Watch made of a far more rugged material like the kind of rubber found on g-shock watches.

As for battery life, while a larger case / screen would also allow more room for a larger battery, I wonder if it could also come in the form of a watch strap with a built-in battery (basically a power bank for the Apple Watch) which could serve to double or even triple its battery life (but I don't know about the safety or comfort aspects of running with a heavy battery strapped around one's wrist).

What this also means is that I may have to walk back on my earlier thoughts of this being a more expensive “Apple Watch pro”. It would simply be made of a more durable material, but may not necessarily be any more expensive in the end.
Ah I forgot the SE is missing some features. I guess I could see Apple further bifurcating the Apple Watch line if there are certain health features they think not everyone would want/need. But if a ‘pro’ model gets considerably more battery life yet has a similar form factor to the other models I think customers would be annoyed. There aren’t many Apple products where you have to pay more to get better battery life (outside of larger devices that have room for bigger batteries).

I’d like to see Exclusive “Apple PRO” sections of the Forum Restricted to “High Net Worth” individuals. I saw a poll on CNBC the other day that said most Americans think you are wealthy if you have a net worth of 2.5-3 Million dollars.

I’m sure many of the Forum members here being Tech Savants and experts on marketing are worth far more that that modest sum. Let us ask MacRumors to create this sanctuary for Elite Apple product users. We should also require FICO scores no lower than 775.

Other ideas are welcome. this could be a beautiful Oasis for “Wealthy” Apple users to engage! Imagine a forum with zero complaints about how “greedy” Apple is and how insensitive they are to make a profit!

I'm pretty sure Apple is pivoting the "Pro" moniker from meaning "high-end materials/asthetics" to "we've omitted most key upgrades on the standard model so you need to spend $999+ if you really want something new".

They've been doing so across all product lines for a while and now AW is going down that path come AW S8 launch.

It adds up if the trillion dollar company wants to continue increased annual revenue.
With iPad they limited Stage Manager to M1 models. Will they do that with the Apple Watch? Have a ‘pro’ version with the latest SoC and use that as the reason it gets certain features and has better battery life than the other models? Though I think it will rub consumers the wrong way if Apple basically says ‘if you want better battery life with your Apple Watch you’re going to have to pay a premium for it’.

My Series 0 still works and my Series 3 Cellular is working great and will even without watchOS 9. I was considering the “Pro” but with that potential price tag, I’ll readjust to something more realistic cost-wise.

“The Really interesting question”— Maybe. What could be lighter than Titanium and still be viable?

This sounds strange and incomplete. A larger display and premium materials might make sense - but why combine that with a "rough" sports version of the watch.

If they would have a larger, premium pro version - and an extreme sports version (base in aluminium)
that would make sense in my view.

Every watch I’ve owned I’ve cracked the screen on. I finally gave up at s6. If this comes out and is “durable”, I might give it another try

Liquidmetal/BMGs. They are still working with this, still own many patents and keep patenting more. Plus Liquidmetal's China partners have been gearing up for something, and have greatly expanded their manufacturing capacity recently.

Remember that Apple has a worldwide, exclusive, perpetual license to the Liquidmetal tech in the consumer Electronics space due to their investment back in 2010.
