Hardware predictions
- new "P1" (or "X1") SoC, Apple's "humongous" chip to be used in the Mac Pro and eventually in servers and in the Apple Car self driving system, that's why it makes sense to even develop it for a niche product like the Mac Pro
- P1 based Mac Pro
- M1 Pro (not Max) Mac Mini in the new form factor, but the M1 Mac Mini lives on in the old form factor for a while (and even gets an M2 update later)

This wraps up the "A14 based" generation (A14, M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, P1).

Then the "A15 based" generation can begin with the M2 products (MacBook Air, base Mac Mini, base MacBook Pro 13", iPad Pro) later this year.

As time goes on I realize that I don’t really take advantage of a lot of the new features that come out year after year. I just want a simple experience and can’t bother to learn all of the little tweaks and shortcuts lol.

There are a few things I would like fixed in iOS, but for what I do— the experience is just fine as is (for the most part).

How about fixing multitasking? How about actually keeping apps open in the background for more than 30 seconds so they don’t have to reload when I switch back?

Notifications are fine, just sync them across devices. But multitasking is garbage compared to Android.
The new devices haven’t had that issue in a while. RAM was the problem but they all have more than enough now. The apps on my 12 Pro Max are still open a week later in most cases. I’ll admit I use a bunch of the same ones daily and don’t have much time to game.

Why are they even mentioning Gurman anymore. He clearly is out of the loop now. Siri is correct more often than he is!

I wish it would be a significant improvement of stability and quality of current features. Smart features like Homekit and Siri are left for dead. Giving commands via WatchOS now require me to verify again with a tap (which make it useless), versus if I do it via iPhone. As far as I know everything goes via the iPhone so why the extra verification since WatchOS8.

iPad has so much horsepower but no room to gallop, much needed overhaul software side is needed. I believe they are working on it, but this is taking way, way too long.

Excellent hardware since M1, now software must follow!

This article is click bait, major changes does not mean new notifications and health tracking that’s not major

Yes, M1 iPad is seriously gimped with just iOS. To compete with the Surface, it should run either full-blown Mac OS or some type of Mac OS Lite.

I'm getting a feeling that they will never redesign their systems again. It's not surprising though because with their current designers it would probably end up as a disaster.

They seem happy to swap out a chip for a slightly faster chip each year and slap the same OS they have been using for 10 years on the thing and call it a day.
Yes. It's so lazy. But because people are buying the products like crazy why would they bother to make their products more useful and easier to use.

I would love for Apple to spend a lot more time and energy into HomeKit. Really great possibilities, poor execution and experience.

I am looking forward to iPadOS updates. To me that platform is the most outdated relative to the hardware (M1) inside.

  • I hope to see robust multitasking with windowing support, similar to the window that contains quick notes in iPadOS 15.x.
  • In addition, Apple needs to fix multi-monitor support and finally enable iPadOS to display an image on the monitor in its native resolution and aspect ratio without any cropping or black bars.
  • Apple also needs to allow the iPad interface with external monitors in 'extended mode' with a separate image on the external monitor, rather than the default 'mirror only' mode of iPadOS 15 and below.
  • Apple should also consider bringing interactive widgets to iOS/iPadOS so we can use the widget to control certain functions of the app rather than having to switch into the app. For example, with Spotify, why can't I navigate my playlists or select certain songs directly from the widget itself.
Come on Apple, we know you can do it! The other thing I'd like is for Apple to as much as possible, squish the bugs... macOS Monterey has had some bad bugs especially with sleep mode, bluetooth, thunderbolt 4 docks.
The biggest issue I have with iPadOS is Files being so simplistic vs Finder. I don’t really care that the filesystem is so locked down, it’s that I can’t use column view or a better list view. It’s just nowhere near as usable from a UI/UX point of view.

You sure he didn’t just get last year’s leaks lol
Last year we got major improvements to the notifications. (Focus modes and summary)
We also got a new interface for multitasking on the iPad

It's time for iOS and iPadOS to have a major overhaul. They've been slowly adapting new features over the years but all in all it's been about the same since long before iOS 7. Pretty much since the beginning it's been a row of icons and some menus you can pull down. I would like to see a completely new Apple OS at some point for these devices to take us into the future since while the current iOS is tried and true it has certainly gotten stale. We need things to be fresh and exciting and fun again. There are many ways Apple can achieve this, they could learn of a few things from Android as far as customization and notifications and widgets and the like. But there is even more ways that could bridge the gap of all of Apple's systems into one.

Buuuuut I guess for now if we can just get less buggy releases I could live with that too!

Things I’d like to see:
- Refreshed icons, nothing radical that affects usability but maybe a new set that’s somewhere between macOS and iOS in terms of skeuomorphism but used for both.
- Synced notifications for all platforms that respond to interactions across devices
- Interactive widgets
- Doubling down on bug fixing and efficiency across the board

I don't necessarily think it needs a massive overhaul. Kinda like it the way it is. Prove me wrong.
Agreed. There have been numerous visual tweaks in recent years anyway. iOS 15 looks quite different when you do a side-by-side with iOS 7. In the end we are still dealing with grids of icons which is a 15 year old interface. Clearly it works. Then they added widgets and a tad more depth to the flat design a couple years ago Along with dark mode.

Things are fine as they are design wise. They desperately need to focus on bugs and functionality over design right now.

No one needs to prove you wrong. You like it as it is and I’m happy for you.

The reason I left after using iPhones for 10 years in 2017 is because iOS is how iOS is now, boring and stagnate.

When there’s intuitive ways to adjust wallpaper, camera settings, icon placement and style along with interactive widgets, I may give it a look again. Until then, I’m staying with the Pixel line.

iOS needs a 100% overhaul. It’s terribly dated and every task seemingly takes multiple steps. I was blown away recently by how android 12L handles simple tasks that take so many extra steps in iOS.
Yeah at this point I wish I had an iPhone with android iOS is so stale

I have column view in Files, just press the button to toggle between Icon, List, and Columns view.
