So basically repeating what we already knew from rumours...
I suspect Apple may provide iPadOS with a DeX mode of the user pleases and if some input accessory is attached it can also be activated. There is a reason why iPad Pro and Air 5 have M1 chips. Technically an A12X/Z is quite capable and I hope Apple does not limit it to an M1 only. This will also permit pro apps to run on iPadOS with DeX capability. It’s a win for the customer and Apple as it will be more expensive compared to purchasing a MBA. Some people really like touchscreens but also like MacOS capabilities but Apple will deliver a compromised solution.people: we demand a better iPadOS!!!
Apple: fine, here's an updated model with even faster M2 chip
I can get behind all that! It’s likely is now yeah, as it’s used in:
MacBook Airs
Entry MacBook Pros
iMacs
Mac mini’s
iPad Pro’s
Now the iPad Air…
You have to remember the cost of these chips isn’t in the production it’s the actual development, once they are being churned out of the factory they cost Apple pennies, now the development of the M1 is done those chips will cost buttons for them to produce…
They could have likely used the A15 as that is being churned out at a cheap cost per unit now also, but the M1 has far better marketing behind it at this present time, so when Apple sat down and decided whether to go with an M1 or an A15, they likely opted for the M1 due to what is likely cheap costs plus for marketing reasons it will sell the Air, because they know this upgrade is quite a poor one, the M1 is what will sell it with the consumers dream that one day Apple will actually do something major with iPadOS.
On top of this they are likely stock piling A15’s now for the iPhone 14 models,
A bunch of people will buy the Air or 2021 11" pro when the 2022 11" Pro increases to $900 and still provides minimal improvements over the air. Especially with the handicapped OS you refer to.I'm glad I didn’t order the iPad Air. I just pray Apple is able to really focus on iPad OS. We need ground/breaking and rich features for the iPad.
But it makes sense - if you want a laptop, you buy a laptop, if you want a tablet, you buy a tablet. In some use cases, the laptop is better, in some others, the tablet. For some people, one can completely replace the other. But any attempt to unify them in a single device has failed, because they’re very different products. The iPad’s OS has always been its weak point. And they’ll —never— allow it to be a laptop replacement.
Gotta remember, Apple’s game plan is for people to buy BOTH a laptop and an iPad
iPadOS with DeX mode.Totally agree. At the current time we have the equivalent of a Ferrari with a lawnmower engine installed in it. It might look good on the outside, but it won't do much. IMO, Apple should take 2 or 3 years and concentrate on squashing bugs and developing a powerful iPadOS with a true file system. What we currently have is little more than an expensive toy for viewing photos and video, surfing the internet, playing games, and social networking. They should either take that stupid "Pro" name off of it, or make it into a laptop alternative.
That said, it could very well be that the Mac Pro SoC is in its own class, based off neither A14 nor A16.
It would be very inefficient, and so counter to the environment claims… it’s stupidPlease explain why we need a MagSafe on an iPad. Is that even necessary? I don’t understand.
Do you guys use it on your iPhone?
And so is the iPhone. We are now at a point that the standout feature are the two new green colors Apple recently introduced. There is only SO much you can do with a Tablet and Smartphone. We are at the point of diminishing returns. Personally I have always viewed the iPad as a media and internet consumption device. That's how I have used them since the iPad 2.In my mind, the story and focus should be on the new iPadOS. The M2 chip and MagSafe are gimmick sales tactics without a more robust OS.
People want a single device with two experiences. Simple experience for a touch based device (iPadOS) and Desktop OS experience for a touch based device (iPadOS with DeX mode). No one wants to carry around an iPad and Mac laptop regardless of cost. A multi-user mode would also be nice. At present Apple offers two options and both are lacking. But it makes sense - if you want a laptop, you buy a laptop, if you want a tablet, you buy a tablet. At the price Apple is charging for an iPadPro it can include two or four FaceTime cameras on the front. It’s Apple being cheap as those cameras costs piddles due to volume purchasing. Can they please put the camera in the landscape position? Its impossibly awkward doing facetime calls with the iPad in its current state. Make it compatible with your freaking keyboard Apple, come on!
M2 is going to replace M1 running in the fab, so that’s a given and I understand that,In my mind, the story and focus should be on the new iPadOS. The M2 chip and MagSafe are gimmick sales tactics without a more robust OS.
iPhone charging for one. What possibly use does MagSafe have on the iPad? This means getting rid of the metal back which I am not in favour of at all.
Did the SmartConnector get rid of the metal back? Some innovative solution is probably the case here. What possibly use does MagSafe have on the iPad? This means getting rid of the metal back which I am not in favour of at all.

I would not need the power of the iPad Pro, but unfortunately it’s the only iPad with a 12.9 display. As an end user, and not a creative professional, I have very little interest in mini-LED. […] Hopefully their iPad Air 2s last that long, but so far they have not complained about the performance of the iPad Air 2.
