I think hole punch might just for SE models with Touch ID. Apple just reduced the size of the notch on the 13. I think the iPhone 14 is going to have the same notch. Just my opinion.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the squared off iPhones? I tried the iPhone 12 Pro last year and 13 pro this year. I can’t get past how uncomfortable it is to hold and use and I’ve tried many cases with them. My 2 year old iPhone 11 is just more comfortable. Aesthetically squared off is nicer to look it but not as ergonomic to me.

I’m seriously considering side grading to an 11 pro or 11 pro max to get a fresh battery and oled display to hold me over for a few more years.
Buy a rounded case, if you haven't already.

The design will be very much like the current iPhone. Just a different camera depth with no bumps. I think the big change will be on foldable phones. I also have my doubts about the notch, because Apple just added to its macbook line. Removing it on iPhones makes things less coherent.

I’m more excited to hear some serious software updates and changes will come in 2022..HomeKit & Siri need to run as beautifully as the hardware they are housed in.

I really hope they go with the tiny single-camera sized notch instead, kinda like some Androids did in 2018-2019:

The punch-hole is hardly better, since the screen between the hole and the edge isn't useable. With a tiny teardrop notch it's also possible to move the camera slightly outside of the screen perimeter, so you'll end up losing a semi-circle instead of a full circle.

I'm not a huge fan of FaceID...it has never been error free often requiring me to type in my password.

If they do manage to make it work under screen FaceID, I hope it's an improvement.

Otherwise, just give us TouchID alone or as a secondary option.
I will agree with on Face ID I end having to type my passcode sometimes just to get into my phone because Face ID won’t work right?

The last three Intel holdouts in the Mac lineup, all mid-to-highend models; so the ASi variants could be:
  • M1 Pro/Max Mac mini
  • M1 Pro/Max 27" iMac
  • M1 Max Duo 32" iMac Pro
  • M1 Max Duo/Quadra Mac Pro Cube
Mac Pro Cube + new display. Immediate buy to support the XR headsets I will get for the studio. WWDC could be a little expensive this year.

You don’t know it’ll be a ‘major redesign’. These are just predictions
I agree with you but most likely it will be re-design. Apple can't be rolling over the same old design year after year. Last year Apple took a break. The whole engineering took a shift towards the iPhone 14. Apple has had plenty of time to work around the iPhone 14. Time will tell :)

Reports below were reported right before iPhone 13 was even announced to the public.

That’s an obvious storyline that all of us really want to believe but we need to leave room for the possibility of the 14 not being a major redesign. I would definitely love to see a redesign though! However it is always fun to share ideas and speculate. I love these times because we all sort of campaign for what we think is most important only to spend one week in the fall feverishly tracking our new devices and whatever changes they come with 🤣🤣

Apple tend to stick to a three year design run, having just shrunk the notch I can't see a major change this year, the following year probably, also we don't now how the supply chain of components will be this year let alone how Covid will be in the year ahead, there are lots of moving parts for a major change in times like these.

I think the iPhone 14 will be the final year of this design but also how much more can you change a rectangle, apart from reduction in SoC size they are making the components cheaper inside as it costs more to buy in now, with power prices going up across the world even making phones will get more expensive and this year will be another Qualcomm modem which will cost even more, and I have to say I'm not keen on a total Apple made phone as their first modem wont be up to Qualcomm's standards, the tech is a lot harder to make, Intel could not do it and Qualcomm own so many patents thats going to be interesting to see how they pull it off without treading on toes and also make the phones impossible to fix by third parties if they iliminate other pats so the motherboard is just Apple tech. Also more to go wrong if you put all your eggs in one basket, and less control for the user if they want to go in that direction possibly.

So I think the years of major redesigns across the board for all manufactures will slow down until the fold type phone's or something along those lines becomes the next way forward I'm not saying a fold is what Apple will do but there is a change coming as people want smaller phones to take out but with the ability to have them turn into tablets as well, which is probably along the lines of the next big change and makes sense for many rather than having two devices. Apart from hiding the notch it FaceID has to be able to work well though an OLED panel, and if it does not Apple wont use it, and that tech is only now seeping forward for normal cameras let alone face ID and after shrinking it for money saving costs I imagine I cant see them changing it again the following year.

Also the first of that design might be one to avoid as it will be refined the next year as is Apples way. If you want more sensors for say touch ID and good battery life your phone will be thicker, and the camera bump will be here to stay unless you want a phone that's 1cm thick. Seriously the 13 Pro with a case on that's almost flush to the cameras is about that thick and I cant see people buying a phone that chunky, so I cant see a phone being thick enough to hide the bump anytime soon. If you want good camera tech that's the way it will be for a while yet I imagine. But as someone else said, what do I know.

I‘d rather have a notch than a hole punch.

My prediction: In order to unite the warring notch versus hole punch camps, Apple will have a "notch punch" - the best/worst of both worlds.

What would the "notch punch" look like or how would it work? I have no idea - I am just making a stupid prediction.

My HUGE iPad Pro is a little hard to hold too. It doesn't have really sharp edges, but if they were more radiused, it would likely feel a little more comfortable. *shrug*

Apple is planning a redesigned MacBook Air powered by a new M2 chip that will be "marginally faster" than the M1 chip, according to Gurman. He expects the M2 chip to have an 8-core CPU like the M1 chip with a 9-core or 10-core GPU, which would be an upgrade over the 7-core or 8-core GPU options for the current MacBook Air.

This part as always somewhat confused me 'with a 9-core or 10-core GPU, which would be an upgrade over the 7-core or 8-core GPU options for the current MacBook Air.'

should this part of the sentence say 9-core OR 10-core (I'm perceiving this as 1 or the other) vs 9-core & 10-core along with 7-core & 8-core (to show either are selectable options not this or that)?
