They must have some cool idea from a UI perspective to do this. Otherwise it makes no sense. In direct sunlight you will see the separation. Also making two holes into the display sounds more expensive then just one pill shape cutout. I doubt that Apple makes such last minute decisions like hiding this in software. This was probably in development for a few years and they would've decided then and do it in hardware.

I have a feeling in upcoming weeks the pill-shaped cutout and a separate hole-punch cutout will contain a lot of controversies.

Can you imagine if the hole punch does not align with the pill due to production issues?? OMG!

Someone will get their micrometer out and raise a big stink over 1mm offset that they claim gives them migraines and they can’t unsee it and the universe is imploding as a result.

while im happy it will be just one wide pill cutout I’m disappointed in how low it is from the top of the phone. It’s more distracting than the notch. if they could only move the pill cutout higher….. then you realize if they did that it would be another notch. 🤷🏽‍♂️ hate to say it but would’ve preferred a smaller notch
