Makes M2 unlikely to launch tomorrow.

"Good morning everyone, introducing the M1 Pro on Mac mini and M1 Ultra on Mac Studio. Oh, BTW, here's also M2."

?

Yeah, if they're going to introduce M2, they're going to have to talk it being the "next generation" and the ways in which it's better than M1. To follow that up with "by the way, here's some more M1 stuff, we know it's the previous generation, but it's better...for multi-core at least" would be awkward. ?

The current M1 mini already offers much more space inside than the Intel model ever did.
Heat dissipation in these models is already much better than in the MBP.

There must be some additional motive for such a large case.

Super duper GPU? - some rumor tweet guy said 3090 speed.

I'll wait and see on that one.

I disagree - this is absolutely the right move on the next gen of the iMac Pro legacy. Most semi-pro people have bought or would prefer to choose their monitor set up, but still want the power offered. Also - the chin look is getting really dated.
I don’t think you understand what I’m saying, I’m not saying that your opinion is irrelevant. If you think this is better than an iMac, that’s perfectly fine.
What I am saying is that this product, in Apple‘s own lineup, is not a replacement for the higher end iMac.
They’re still going to introduce a 27 inch iMac with Apple Silicon. The question isn’t if, but when.
This Mac studio is a completely new product, independent of the iMac which will still exist.
However, it might work better than an iMac for some people such as yourself, and that’s all fine and good

Universal control like connectivity on this monitor? You sit down at your desk with your MacBook Pro and it just wakes the screen and seemlessly connects… I actually would love this.

It does make me wonder. I don't think they would ever create a touch-capable version of macOS, but maybe touch could be used for certain creative apps... ?

I think that would be the out for them.

When hooked up to mac, it's a display.

When not hooked into anything, it's a BIG IPAD that can play all your Angry Birds.

Or drawing apps...

But mostly Angry Birds.

I know I‘m probably just reading into it too much, or just jumping to conclusions too quickly, but if the Studio Display is said to “run iOS,” could that be a hint at real external monitor support for the iPad?

Isn't this likely to happen at some point? If they don't launch M2 tomorrow, and they do it in May/June instead, they still will have to launch iMac Pro with M1 Pro at the same time? It's either going to happen now or in a few months, unless they somehow separate the iMac Pro launch.

They could also update the iMac Pro directly with M2 Pro/M2 Max chips

I think the M1 family will complete launching before any of the M2 will happen.

I still can't see the M2 being packed into the old MBP chassis.

"Good morning, here's all this exciting stuff with a brand new form factor. Also, here's our latest M2 chip packed into our obsolete 13" MBP chassis."

It's more likely to be something like an A11 chip inside the monitor to control the back lighting and built-in speakers. External monitor support for iPad is a limitation of the iPad software itself.

I agree, they WILL finish M1 before M2 comes out. HOWEVER, the Mac Pro might only come with M2 Max, etc. because it is "supposed" to launch in 2023. I personally don't believe this - I think the Mac Pro will launch at WWDC THIS YEAR.

It will be interesting and downright exciting to see what TDP they can run their silicon at with a beefy heatsink and what performance we will get.

Shame it looks really really ugly, but hey maybe the renders are inaccurate in some way.
