but the only iPad I use around the house is a gen5 Mini
Same - I love my Mini 5
but the only iPad I use around the house is a gen5 Mini
As phones keep getting larger and larger screens, the difference between a small iPad and a large iPhone is getting less and lessI'm surprised that the mini gets no love from Apple. It's a perfect size for my uses …
Not the same (usually.) Most cheap memory sticks are DDR4 or DDR5, not LPDDR5.NOT 3X-5X retail pricing of the same
Disagree. 16:10 allows for many uses, such as having 16:9 video play with space above and below the video for user interface controls.16:10 is a terrible aspect ratio for any computer screen
That and Face ID needs to start moving to the Air and below as well. Why can’t we get promotion/120hz in the ipad air and other non-pro devices?? The tech has been out for nearly 7 years for crying out loud!

Doesn't matter... the iPad mini is the perfect size regardless of iPhone screen size.As phones keep getting larger and larger screens, the difference between a small iPad and a large iPhone is getting less and less
To greedy Apple bean counters, it matters to them. Which brings the greatest profit.Doesn't matter... the iPad mini is the perfect size regardless of iPhone screen size.
It’s technically getting less, but it’s still quite considerable:As phones keep getting larger and larger screens, the difference between a small iPad and a large iPhone is getting less and less
Apple’s margins are clearly significantly larger on the higher storage tiers. R&D and manufacturing cost doesn’t really differ just between storage tiers. Not the same (usually.) Most cheap memory sticks are DDR4 or DDR5, not LPDDR5.
And, it's a common fallacy, to think the price of product is just the price of parts.
The monitor you show is actually 5:4 (1280x1024). I think I would like 16:11 best for the desktop, that’s between 4:3 and 3:2. Some space for sidebars is convenient.![]()
Correct, the superior screen aspect ratio is 4:3 like the good 'ol days. The hideous 16:9 was brought into existence because of 720p video, and its two equally terrible drunk cousins 16:10 and 3:2 tried to be slightly less terrible. But now that 99% of desktop content is just mobile-first up-down scrollable content, 4:3 shows its innate superiority once again.
They just redid the iPad mini with the last revision. Don’t expect anything major this time.I'm surprised that the mini gets no love from Apple. It's a perfect size for my uses but then again my phone is the 13 mini which Apple says no one buys.
Pure blacks are what I’m interested in!OLED technology would enable the next iPad Pro displays to offer increased brightness, more vivid colors, higher contrast ratio, lower power consumption, and other benefits compared to existing models with LCD panels
The same reason you get 8GB RAM on a brand new Mac computer. Product differentiation to maximise profit. Why can’t we get promotion/120hz in the ipad air and other non-pro devices?? The tech has been out for nearly 7 years for crying out loud!

I can get why this is frustrating (I mean heck I'd enjoy a cheaper Mac) but this is just the tactic Apple uses to get the average unit selling price where they need it to be to hit the profits their shareholders have come to expect.Apple’s margins are clearly significantly larger on the higher storage tiers. R&D and manufacturing cost doesn’t really differ just between storage tiers.
Save your money for another future update… if its runnig the same iOS its unlikely to be value for money at all.May scoop up an M3 air, but my iPads are just fine.
Yeah, I think people would be less upset if the storage-pricing spread was smaller around whatever the average selling price is. Of course that would make the base model more expensive. But the price difference for more storage in Apple hardware is currently so large that it obviously bears no relation to the actual cost. Same for the cellular iPad models. So very overtly Apple is just price-gouging, leaving a bad taste with those for which this is obvious.I can get why this is frustrating (I mean heck I'd enjoy a cheaper Mac) but this is just the tactic Apple uses to get the average unit selling price where they need it to be to hit the profits their shareholders have come to expect.
Another viable method would be to raise the price of the base model and then reduce the add-on costs to be more in line with what you would expect, would keep the same average selling price but at the risk of reduced unit sales due to a higher entry price (which would in turn hurt revenue and profit). Some places (schools, businesses, etc.) buy fleets of the base model and can be price sensitive to that entry point and many "average" consumers buy base models as well (whether that's wise or not is a different discussion) with similar price sensitivity. Apple is wagering folks upgrading their Macbook Pro to 4TB of space and 64 or 128GB of RAM are needing it for something serious enough that the margin is worth the ROI, thus placing the "burden" on the more "Pro" end of the market.
I think Apple pays attention to all these numbers very closely, especially with all their historical sales data. Component costs and R&D are definitely only some of the consideration though.
