I just picked up a S9. Yes, for media consumption that aspect ratio is better. However for EVERYTHING I've found it pretty frustrating. So much so, and for a few other reasons, it is probably going back.
Would you mind giving some of the reasons? I’ve been tempted to pick up an S9 Ultra for media consumption and the much better aspect ratio for movies.

Just another post literally begging for a new iPad mini. When it comes to screens/technology I want the best and biggest possible.

But damnit the iPad Mini just really is the perfect size. I wish Apple would treat it with the love it gets from its users. I guess it just must not sell well or offer the margins the bigger ones do.

May scoop up an M3 air, but my iPads are just fine.
I know the article says M2....but this seems odd.

By March it will have been 24 months since the M1 iPad Air....the M3 SOC already exists.....but Apple would just now get around to putting the M2 in an iPad Air?

Would be a lame move by Apple. My M1 iPad Air needs a new battery. I would consider trading it in for a M3 iPad Air but not M2.

Apple doesn't want to announce the new iPads now because they want to make sure every last detail of the design leaks first. The actual announcement will come a couple weeks after someone posts CAD renders or production prototype photos to Mastodon.

"The iPad Air lineup is expected to gain a new 12.9-inch display size alongside an updated 10.9-inch model."

I'm confused, won't they be similar, just a different size?
Yes, basically exactly like the 13" and 15" MBAs. Now that Apple did it with the MBAs, the thinking is they'll embrace a similar philosophy and offer folks who don't need the "Pro" features (Eg. ProMotion, OLED screen), but just want a bigger screen, they can pay "Air" prices...

Especially if it's true that the new iPad Pros will have a slight price bump, the price diff between the iPad Air and iPad Pro will be larger, then having the larger-screen cheaper option might have a market.

Yes. I almost pulled the trigger on one yesterday. $100 off at Best Buy. But it’s 2 and half years old just about. Even if all it got was a processor upgrade, and base storage bump to 128GB.
If Apple does update it this year, even with just a processor upgrade, I'll pull the trigger. And then again in 2026, when it's rumored to get an OLED screen.

The "key new feature" I need to jump on an M3 MBair is much more competitively-priced RAM & SSD. I would have owned an M2air from launch day if RAM & SSD upgrades were NOT 3X-5X retail pricing of the same from Amazon and similar.

Else, I'll just keep squeezing whatever remaining life I have with an old MB, possibly marching towards a PC laptop replacement if Apple doesn't choose consumer value over shareholder maximization on this matter when I HAVE to buy a replacement. I do NOT want to do that but I will not pay Premium+++ for commodity parts like RAM & SSD. Enough is enough!

People laugh but virtualization is becoming increasingly important. Requires a lot of storage and RAM.

Honestly, I think it has a lot to do with the Mini not fitting their current/future vision for iPad use. With every other iPad they are trying to build out productivity functionality, but the size of the Mini keeps it comfortably in the “perfect consumption device on the couch” category. Apple is trying to move away from this and the Mini’s size is prohibitive. Aka, the reason why we love it so much is the same reason they see no growth opportunities for the product.

They just redid the iPad mini with the last revision. Don’t expect anything major this time.
If they stick an A18 into it, you could play Death Stranding and other console games on it. Some people would consider that major. Personally I have my PS5 and 43” TV which is a better option for me, but some people may appreciate having that gaming capability on the go.

Looking forward to seeing new Apple Pencil. Waiting to see if MagSafe charging/StandBy will be available on iPad. Expecting to see even improved battery life on M3 MacBook Air. Hopefully the upcoming MacBook Air launches with a new colour option.

Errr... have you tried reading the original post which effectively said 'if they don't do cheaper upgrades I'm moving to PC' - this was in response to that - Apple are not going to do cheap upgrades so they might as well switch now...
Why are you so sure that it’ll never change? Pricing has been the same for the last several years while prices have halved multiple times.

I would like to see a new iPad mini.
Don't worry. Apple will skip it this year, and then in 18 months they'll announce an iPad cheap, in a similar form factor. After 24 months, they'll announce the iPad Mini 7, and then wonder why no body buys it. They will discontinue the line the following year, citing low sales numbers.

I was stating why the response was given as it was - thats not necessarily my opinion - the person who responded to the original post thinks that... I was just paraphrasing

When people say "I must have the latest and greatest" because while the (insert new Apple product here) looks the same or maybe slightly better they are making them cheaper on the inside to make more profit, so the iPhone X is probably better built internally then iPhone 15 in all honesty. Sony do this, they launch a new PlayStation over engineer it, or as I call built it properly, then next version looks horrible the plastics are cheaper and internal cooling has gotten worse so them can make it lighter to ship less money per pallet to ship for Sony and more profit to Sony all round, Apple is the king of this with reducing what's in he box because we are so eco friendly while still using Cobolt batteries, and the mining conditions of that is horrific, even if it is recycled now.
