I'll most likely be updating this round from my 2018 12.9. I had a triple disc fusion in my neck earlier this year and the iPad had become invaluable to my daily work life. Sitting in one spot for long amounts of time ends up hurting so I'm constantly moving between three or 4 locations in my house. Kitchen bar, dining room table, office, couch. I converted my work laptop to a VM that runs on my proxmox server so I can work from any location from any device with minimal effort. I usually keep my work laptop in the office and my personal laptop on the bar. The iPad allows for working in the other two locations with ease.

This is really disappointing, so basically if the rumours are true in 5 and a half years since the 2018 iPad Pro launch to the next iPad Pro (probably around early 2024) the 11 inch model would have only got slight camera improvements, LiDAR and some form of MagSafe charging…

All things which really haven’t improved the product for about 95% of users.

What exactly are you demanding? In that time the horsepower has scaled up greatly, as has the RAM. Are they supposed to put a floppy drive and hand crank on it?

So what are you all using an iPad Pro for? Curious.
Honestly, a bigger screen in the same size, taking pictures, anime, browsing, good sound, and euh ... that's about it I think. The camera is the main reason I got the pro, my wife only takes pictures and video with the iPad, it's just her thing.

I was going to use the pencil but that never happened
I was going to use it with photoshop but it doesn't fit with what I do
I was going to do video editing but no time
...

But hey, I still love it, it's a great machine and I'm probably buying another one to replace an older iPad. Probably a M1, the speed is crazy fast already.

I just hope my iPad Pro 2018 11” can hold out until Apple decides to put a modern display in this product.
In same boat with my 2018 iPP 11". It's still fine for my needs, but I'd be able to justify to myself upgrading here at the 4yr mark heh. Would be great if they add something a bit more substantial than just the upgrade to M2! I think if they brought mini-LED to the 11", I could pretty easily justify the upgrade. It seems now that this is unlikely to be the case though...

Looking for good deals on a 256gb M1 11Pro to replace my Air2. Should happen after M2 releases..
If the only upgrade on the new iPads is the M2 chip, I might just get the M1 version for cheaper.
This might be the way. Especially if the new 11" iPP is very incremental...

Sadly this may end up being the case... the A12X in my 2018 11" iPP to A12Z to M1 to M2, while nice on paper, really hasn't improved the functionality, speed or capability of the iPad Pro in any meaningful way. I've never felt performance limited on my 2018 version, and I think that's likely the case for the majority of iPad Pro users out there (but for the small minority who push the capabilities / use it more like a laptop-replacement).

Just more support around the idea that the iPad Pro hasn't been hardware-limited for the last 4 years. It's the software capabilities that's held it back - either intentionally (to not make it too much of a Mac replacement) or just due to lack of focus / innovation from the software team. Either way, it's where we'll remain until there's a true step-function change in iPadOS. In the meantime, for us consumers of the iPP, I think the way may be to get earlier versions (eg. M1 iPad Pro) when the new one releases at good discounts, and wait until then.

Most people will see the benefits of double the RAM.

I use mine all the time. I have a M2 MacBook Air and use it for certain tasks (file management, running Windows 11 w/Parallels and various non-Mac apps, etc), but my M1 iPad Pro is my go to device. I have the cellular 12.9” version with the Magic Keyboard and it makes it very mobile / flexible. Ironically, when I pickup the M2 MacBook Air, the first thing I do is touch the screen to scroll / select! Oops. I use Stage Manager (iPad OS 16 Beta), but mostly to select apps. I like the active apps floating on the left side of the screen and touch them with my thumb. It’s a decent interface, but not as easy to use or as versatile as Mac OS.

The flexibility really is underrated, especially with the MKB. I've taken to using it as my on-the-go machine rather than hauling my MBP around.

ive bought 3 IPPs since first launch. waste of money. because the OS sucks.
This is why I just buy the basic budget iPad. Love my 9th gen with the Combo Touch :)

Speaking of which, is the iPad 10 gonna be the sleeper hit of this keynote/press release?

I just hope they make it thicker and rigid. By thicker, I mean like add a few millimeters to accommodate a bigger battery. The base iPad should not be able to beat the iPad Pro in terms of battery life. But everything else about the iPad Pro is awesome. Just make the stage manager stable and its one heck of a device.

No mini-LED screen on the 11” iPad Pro… again! Come on Apple. You really don’t want my money do you? My 2018 11” iPad Pro still kicks butt as a digital sketchbook, as well as editing photos & 4k video on. So I won’t be upgrading… BUT I definitely would consider it if the 11” finally got a mini-LED screen like it’s bigger brother the 12.9”.
