Mini led is fine, never had an issue and no problems with burn in
Mini LED displays are not fine:
  • You're not getting "true" 120Hz ProMotion because the pixel response is about 40 ms—when it needs to be 8.3 ms or less to show clear motion. As a result, ProMotion on iPads are blurry and unclear (try reading text during scrolling). [BY the way, the MacBook Pro display with Mini LED is 2x worse at 80 ms.]
  • Moving to OLED, which has a pixel response of < 1ms, means you will have crystal clear ProMotion 120Hz—same as the iPhone
  • Also, mini LED creates blooming and halo artifacts, which double in visibility if you're looking at the display off-axis. Its especially bad for those who turn on closed captions during shows and movies. Especially bad when the room is low-light or dark. That gets solved with OLED.
I respect the concern for burn-in, so proceed with some caution, although the iPad Pros will supposedly use "RGB tandem" (dual-stacked) OLED which makes it more resilient to burn-in than any OLED we've seen before; because it combines two layers of OLED, meaning less voltage required and thus burn-in is unlikely to occur. Also—There is a new blue-diode that is about 4x more efficient now and began licensing in 2024; I don't know if Apple's OLED manufacturers are using it in this generation of OLED, or the next, but that also reduces burn-in because the blue-diode was the main problem due to being super inefficient compared to the red and green diode.

Interesting that you think so. My brother works for an investment firm in England, and they give absolutely NO credence to what Gurman says. They listen to analysts we don’t even know about “in the wild.”
Well, there a quite a few prominent firms in the US that recommend his newsletters as suggested reading. I don't know who your brother is. I don't know what he does at this "investment firm" either. Is he a retail broker? Fund manager? Trader? Quantitative analyst? Accountant? HR person? Equities? Fixed income securities? To merely say he works at an investment firm and they say ... without providing the information I asked about would lead me to lend little if any credibility to what's been said.

The only analysts who are known outside of firms are generally those who publish and sell newsletters. The simple fact remains that if he were as horrible as so many here think, he wouldn't have a job.

They all say the same think about Kuo. Does your brother's firm say the same thing too

Apple does not plan to hold a traditional event to unveil new iPads and Macs, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Instead, he said Apple plans to announce the products on its website with a "series of online videos and marketing campaigns."

iPad-Air-12.9-Inch-Feature.jpg

If this plan is accurate, we can expect the new products to be announced with press releases on the Apple Newsroom website.

Gurman expects Apple to announce the following products:
  • Two new iPad Pro models with the M3 chip and OLED displays
  • A new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro
  • Two new iPad Air models, including a first-ever 12.9-inch model
  • At least one new Apple Pencil
  • New 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with the M3 chip
The new iPad Pro models are expected to be thinner, and they are rumored to be equipped with a landscape-oriented front camera like the iPad 10.

March or April are also common months for Apple to release a new iPhone color, and new colors for iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands.

In terms of timing, Gurman said that Apple is planning to release a "special version" of iOS 17.4 with support for the new hardware at the end of March, leading him to expect the devices to "arrive sometime in March or April." Presumably, there would also be special iPadOS 17.4 and macOS 14.4 versions preinstalled on the new iPads and Macs.

iOS 17.4 includes major changes to the App Store and more in the EU, as a result of the Digital Markets Act. Apple has until March 6 to comply with the Digital Markets Act, in order to avoid fines, so the common belief has been that iOS 17.4 will likely be released by then. The special version would follow later in the month.

Apple were one the company that led the market, for others to follow. Today, looking at innovation, my next tablet purchase will be a ZTE Nubia 3d tablet, if I can find one in the UK. Apple with Vision Pro not available here, not I'd buy one as too costly, is their only innovative device in recent times. My iPhone 13 sits unused as Moto edge 30 neo is to me far more practical. I used to always buy the latest Apple products, now I don't. I get better value for money and often products with a more modern fresher feel to them.

No event make me think the iPads won't have any revolutionary changes. M3, OLED, horizontal camera...and that's it, no killer new feature.

Apple has said there is not going to be a larger iMac.

The Ultra and corresponding Studio and Pro models will likely debut at WWDC in June as it did last year.
They specifically said they were not going to release another 27-inch iMac.
They did NOT say they were not going to release a larger iMac.

For those who need a new iPad, this is good. The new iPad is good for me. That is why releases don't always have to major change every year. I am upgrading from the 2017 iPad

I seem to be in the minority when reading the other comments, but I would have preferred an event. Not because it's necessary, but because I like it. :) I like the build up to the event when the first invitations go out, the livestream and live blogs during the event, the hands-on videos afterwards, etc.

iPads haven't been updated since 2022, so some love for them from Apple would have been nice, haha.
Maybe, but—
  • had invitations gone out
  • press made it a big deal
  • and anticipation ballooned
you, and I, and everyone here would be complaining, "That was it?! Thats what the build up was about? Just panel updates on an iPad, and an already four-month-old M3 chip?"

They specifically said they were not going to release another 27-inch iMac.
They did NOT say they were not going to release a larger iMac.
It’s pretty clear from this quote from four months ago that they aren’t planning to make a larger iMac any time soon.
”The company encourages those who have been holding out hope for a larger iMac to consider the Studio Display and Mac Studio or Mac mini.”

Of course, they recommend his newsletters as reading to the masses - they like nothing better than someone who summarizes what he reads to be widely read by as many as possible.

My brother works as a Senior Analyst in Technology Portfolio Management for a well-known global investment firm in London (and you know I can't tell you which one), and in his words; "...of course, we glance at what folks like Gurman say, but to think we don't know what they publish us well before they do, would be funny." I wish I could tell you more, but that's just not something he tells me about...

Gurman has a hit rate of about 60%, perhaps 70% when you sum up how many times he repeats himself, and that's not a whole lot better than a trained monkey... Will there be a new iPad Air - yes/no? Will there be a new iPad Pro - yes/no? Will there be a new Apple Watch - yes/no?

I’m sure the OLED screens will be great, but iPads are still greatly limited by their OS. Doesn’t really matter what they do to the hardware at this point.

Agreed
I don't know a single iPad owner with one that's even remotely recent that has a single complaint about the hardware.

All the issues and frustrations are in software.

Does Apple not get this?
It's so weird

Was not expecting an in person event. But was definitely expecting to see a pre recorded event like the one for M3 MacBook Pros in October 2023. Will be very surprised if there isn't one.

I'm good with this.

I was there when the revolutions (Macintosh, iMac, iBook/Powerbook, iPod, iPhone, iPad) happened under Steve Jobs, so I don't tune in to keynotes anymore.

However, I never not look forward to product releases.

Show me, show me, show me, how you do that trick, Apple. Tempt me if you can.

;)

Guys, Apple products are mature. You can't reinvent the wheel. Form factors aren't going to change much going forward, except for the Vision stuff (which is Apple's latest revolution). But getting that somewhere remarkable is a LONG way off.

I believe the Mac, iPad, iPhone, Watch, and AirPods changes will remain minor and limited to refinements, and targeted primarily for either new customers or those that need to replace older stuff.

And of course, bleeding-edgers with deep pockets/good trade-in habits.

Yes, you’re right , so it’s going to have to be all about software now. I see a future where there are going to be tiers on the iPad Etc. Tier 1 as it is now. Pay a little extra for tier 2 with AI and pay a little extra for tier 3, which will have everything everybody wants.

Raise the base storage to 256 GB and delete the 128 GB model, but don’t change the price of the 256 GB model.

This effectively would increase the base price, but in a way that customers may be able to stomach on an already expensive product.
Wholeheartedly disagree.
256gb should be the new base model, without base model price increase.
Storage is inexpensive. It's just Apples marketing strategy to Push people upward the ridiculous pricing tiers. Stingy bastards. They should go back to Isra ... Oops. Lol
