I actually still have that 2015 Apple TV. Still used daily and still going strong. I don’t have a 4K TV though![]()
at the risk of sounding like an oldhead, it seems like the new age of WWDC has made a lot of people forget that its whole, original, intended point, was to be a yearly conference about all Apple software. that newfound perception is definitely not surprising—Apple has understandably dedicated a lot of time to talking about Apple Silicon in the past couple years, parlaying it into new hardware—though it’s always good to see a potent focus on software (particularly at a time when it feels like UX across Apple’s OSes is leaving a sour taste in everyone’s mouth).IMO, WWDC should be just about software. As fun as it is for Apple to announce hardware, it feels weird to me when they do it at this software event.
Plus, I never expected the Apple TV to be refreshed at this time. That rumor didn’t make sense to me, since I’d anticipate an A18 or A19 chip in the next Apple TV, depending on when it is released.
as I’ve said before (this actually might be the one sentiment I’ve repeated the most across my time on MR), would love to see a whole WWDC dedicated to fixing as many bugs across OSes as humanly possible, with no major feature announcements. both the company and shareholders alike may be surprised by what that nets for the company’s brand image. alas, WWDC’24 will be the year of Apple + AI. let’s hope they don’t fumble the bag!

That’s a difference with the newer aluminum remote over the previous black glass one, not the AppleTV device itself.I can. On one tv I keep pausing the broadcast when I only intended to mute the sound.

You can use the newer aluminum remote on the older AppleTVs to gain the use of a mute button.
He certainly didn't mention anything publicly. The closing question is hidden unless you subscribe. Easy enough to be wrong and Apple announces hardware which I hope they do.Bloomberg's Mark Gurman does not expect Apple to announce any new hardware during its WWDC 2024 keynote on June 10.
Why do you?Why does anyone pay attention to him?
OK, well even if that is the correct interpretation, the same advice applies. Matching remotes even if the AppleTV hardware of one is older than the other, remove. the discrepancy, any muscle memory quickly subsides, and also means that both remotes now have a dedicated mute button.I think the user you replied to is hinting a
Well, a new Apple TV is definitely either coming soon or not coming soon, so I guess he is right about it one way or another.

"There's no hardware slated to be announced at WWDC, unless Apple unexpectedly previews a new device launching later (to be clear: I don't expect that)," said Gurman, in his Power On newsletter today.
Notably, Gurman now says a new Apple TV model "isn't imminent," despite previously reporting that Apple was aiming to release a new Apple TV in the first half of 2024. The current Apple TV was introduced in October 2022.
Here is when the previous five Apple TV models were announced:
- Third-generation Apple TV 4K: October 2022
- Second-generation Apple TV 4K: April 2021
- First-generation Apple TV 4K: September 2017
- Apple TV HD: September 2015
- Third-generation Apple TV: March 2012
The next Apple TV is rumored to feature a faster processor than the current A15 Bionic chip, and even lower pricing. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the next Apple TV could have a $99 starting price in the U.S., down from $129 currently.
No major design changes have been rumored for the next Apple TV specifically, but Gurman said Apple has considered adding a built-in camera to a future model. tvOS 17 added a FaceTime app to the Apple TV, allowing for users to have video calls on the TV, but this currently requires using the rear camera on a connected iPhone or iPad.

Something that enables MacOS and iOS to run the software that are exclusive to PCs. Can AI help with fast ports?Curious to know: what would be REALLY exciting for you software-wise?
Why does anyone pay attention to him?
Which sounds good in theory, but with Apple's current track record, they're either about to make the software worse, or much, much worse. No hardware, no care
He was the only person who predicted an M4 in the iPad, and had arguably the biggest scoop with that for the last few years.
Not sure why everyone ***** on his rumor reporting, he's right way more often than not. Honestly think some people are weird about him, it's really clear he has good sources.
As I keep saying and feeling, software needs work, hardware does not
And the AI stuff will probably be released slowly. Some things announced this summer may not come until December, or January or May or whenever. To me, even if everything is released today, it's already more than a year too late.Bummer
There goes my outside hope for the iPad Mini 7, some M4 MacBooks or an updated Apple TV
Sounds like a entire presentation about "AI stuff coming later this year"
👎
Major "meh" for me
So many product lines are just in really weird spots of "not much has happened in a long time"
Apple seems to have really screwed the pooch with Car & VR headset distractions and now trying to throw an AI hail mary
