Glad MR published this report. We all need a bit of reassurance after being “scarred” when they didn’t launch at WWDC. :D

An October event sounds most likely unless Apple uses Steve’s “One more thing” to unveil them at the iPhone event.

Although this would be unusual, I actually think it would be huge to announce them at the same time and would draw a lot of attention to the new machines for a largely iPhone-centric audience.

I predict Apple will release them when they think they are ready

Not necessarily. M1X should be clocked higher than A14 and M1.
Unlikely - the CPU speed couldn't increase without faster LPDDR4X memory (which AFAIK doesn't exist) or overclocking it beyond spec (which Apple likely wouldn't do) or setting a different CPU multiplier for the memory (which Apple likely didn't build the chip to do)

Not sure if I'm picking these up now or I'll wait for the Air refresh to replace my current MacBook Air, like I don't need more performance for the office type of work... For gaming I have a Desktop PC and a gaming laptop I carry with me.

I predict it will be October. Apple will not steal their own thunder of the iPhone event in September. On the other hand they will not want to slip the revenue slip too far.

I would buy a new 16 for
- M2... Intel is so bad its not even funny, my M1 Macbook Air feels way faster than my i9 16... Never buying an intel processor again.
- No bezels, thinner/flatter
- Removal of the touchbar.

Not hot on those white bezels, I hope to be spared

MagSafe is better than USB-C on a technical level, but USB-C has the advantage I don't need a specialized cable, and I can just use any USB charger brick. For longevity and less annoyance USB-C is better. Would be cool if it had both.

Why is the M1/M1X/M2 so much better

- It feels way faster (WAY faster) - maybe because memory is integrated, graphics is integrated, or maybe because of the higher single thread throughput, IDK

- Battery lasts forever and that's on the MBA

- Never gets warm to the touch.

- Instant on

I personally just bought a 13” M1 MBP. The deals are way too good to pass on, and my job keeps giving us 5+ year old HP’s with the latest windows updates…thanks but no thanks! I’ll work on my M1 MBP. Say no to struggling! The wife is getting a MB Air next month but we don’t know if we should wait or just go for it, good deals around as well for those. This should be a good year to upgrade a lot of stuff for us, we have 2 year old iPhones and iWatches. Apple just needs to release the new AirPods Pro and everything will be golden 😬
I so love my M1 Air.

Best computer I ever had

So I would not hesitate to get another one, thinking about getting one for the kid. They're inexpensive, and they work really well, amazing keyboard too.

Would prefer the new Air with M2/M1X but don't think my 2015 Pro will hold out until next year.

It's running so so slow now and I only really use it for minor things, battery is now TRASH.

Also Gurman is a joke, him and Prosser's little feud is hilarious because they're both morons and wrong.

The following 3 specs are making me a day 1 purchaser of the redesigned MacBook Pros:
  • redesign (and hopefully nearly bezeless display)
  • Magsafe
  • MiniLED display
Increased battery life🔋 (fingers crossed) is a huge reason why I’ll purchase on Day 1. I’m hoping for at least 15 hours on the 16” MacBook Pro. That would last through almost any flight.

I don’t listen to rumors anymore. The words “Maybe, I assume, could be, possibility“, are words that turn me off on these people because they don’t know anymore than I do. I will wait until it happens. Simple. What the Youtubers are looking for is that click on their site.

Ideally, they would find a way to add a marginal feature that is otherwise exclusive to Macs, to work their way out of a problem they created by removing them to begin with, so that they don't have to admit they backtracked.
ie. magsafe to phones instead of using more common solutions.

"The Function key has been virtually unchanged since its introduction in 1965. Apple revolutionized the function row with the introduction of the Touch Bar. Now, we will take another step no other visionary could by introducing travel and tactile feedback to [X innovation], providing dynamism to discrete system inputs, leaping beyond those boring F keys while providing 3X the user experience of the Touch Bar."
How about this? A compartmentalized Touch Bar to mimic the function row. you get the tactile feedback of a physical key, but the screen and customization of the Touch Bar. win win.

I suspect Apple will be forced to leak details shortly, as Press seem none too happy with the constant guessing games. I'd be more than happy if they just released specifications of the M1X chip as a taster.

For sureeee!! I never experienced such slow downs as I did with my 2017 15” MBP. Was great but literally downhill on its last year. Never happened to any other Mac I’ve owned and I’ve had tons. M1 is the future. It’s a big deal.
Something amiss with your OS install then, reinstalling making it better????

Nothing wrong with OS. that computer is gone already. It’s just a major slowdown. At least 3 others I work with and some on this forum with the same computer noticed slowdowns as well.
Maybe dust built up or bad contact in between the CPU/GPU and the heat pipe.
Just trying to help, thinking out of the box.
