Apple will focus on three main topics during its WWDC keynote next week, including "several new Macs," composing one of the company's longest-ever events, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman today said.

In a tweet shared earlier today, Gurman said that this year's WWDC keynote will focus on the announcement of "several" new Mac models, Apple's mixed-reality headset, and a range of significant OS updates. An all-new 15-inch MacBook Air model is the only Mac firmly pinned down by rumors for announcement at the event, so it is unclear what other Mac models could be on the table.

Last week, Gurman reported that the Mac Studio, 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, and 13-inch ‌M2‌ MacBook Pro, will become eligible for trade-in on the day of the event, potentially hinting that a refresh for at least one of those machines could be on the way. 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with the M3 chip are rumored to be in development, but the first M3 Macs are not expected to launch until toward the end of the year.

Apple introduced the Mac Studio in May 2022, offering configurations with the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips. Despite the launch of a range of Macs with the M2, M2 Pro, and M2 Max chips, Apple has not yet refreshed the Mac Studio. Gurman believes that two new Mac Studio models are in the works, but is unsure of when they will launch.

He has previously cast doubt over the possibility of update being announced at WWDC, suggesting that Apple is more likely to wait until the M3 generation to update the Mac Studio as to avoid cannibalizing the Apple silicon Mac Pro. Even so, updated Mac Studio models with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chip options are certainly not out of the question for WWDC this year.

The Apple silicon Mac Pro is also a possibility, but speaking on the The MacRumors Show podcast earlier this year, Gurman explained that while he still expects the new Mac Pro to launch this year, it is unlikely to emerge at WWDC.

Due to the sheer quantity of what Apple is expected to announce at WWDC, Gurman expects the keynote "to be one of Apple's longest ever and easily exceed two hours." Last year's WWDC keynote event was just under one hour and 50 minutes long. The event contained the announcement of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura, watchOS 9, the M2 chip, a refreshed 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the redesigned MacBook Air.

Phew... OK. I'll leave my Mac Mini M2 Pro Refurbished unopened. Received it yesterday. Not sure if refurbished products can be returned once opened.

I'm expecting an M3-based Mac Pro to be announced and released later this year, nothing less. I know TSMC won't have a great output of 3nm processors, but I know Apple won't sell billions of Mac Pros - too expensive. I'll be happy they announce it - but way too expensive for me.

It is likely to be M2 iMacs, there have been recent rumors suggesting Apple wants it to use up some of the M2 surplus despite the previous plan of skipping until M3.

The Mac Pro is long due but it seems they are not ready. And then Mac Studio is reported (including Gurman) to skip M2 gen. And it may be really odd for 13" MBA to get a minor WiFi / BT update without an M3 chip.

It will be not interesting macs just m2 speed improvements, they are a stop gaps for next years big m3 updates, so nothing to get to excited for

Hoping for a surprise Mac Pro announcement, though I’d never actually need one. It’d just be nice to finish the apple silicon transition fully.

My bet - 15” MBA, Mac Pro and wildcard…an updated Mac Studio as well.

This will be great. My secret wish is a 12” MacBook, we’ll see how iOS 17 improves stability and battery life, eager to know what this journal app is about, and how iPadOS improves the experience on this devices.

I get what you mean, if they keep using M2s, then yes those are stop gap chips, but still amazing and plenty powerful. We all know the big leap should come with the M3 tho, so whoever that can wait, should indeed wait.

The tagline on the publicity is "Code new worlds" and you don't have to be a cryptic crossword expert to translate that to "AR/VR development program".

15" MBA seems to be a near certainty, and M2 iMac is long overdue - but I don't see those generating much "shock and awe" - it's an MBA with a bigger screen (nice, but what more can you say) and an iMac spec bump that is almost a year late.

I think they have to say something concrete about the Mac Pro at WWDC or it is dead. Mac Pro for AR development? If they've done something radical in terms of a scalable "compute module" system maybe but, honestly, its 2023 and the AR development program belongs in the cloud (the products will ultimately have to be delivered over the mobile network & a lot of the possible applications will be AI based and trained on cloud-based data).

All I want is 15" MacBook Air and iOS 17 news. The headset is for people with more money than sense. Might be worth thinking about when the 3rd gen revision is out.

… and it includes useful features and the price has come down significantly.

How will they fit that into a 2h keynote especially with a new product category and associated OS being introduced? Macs will likely get a silent release or in case of a Mac Pro, a short preview video for release later. This would be fine, I mean how much is it to say about a M2 Ultra Mac Studio that cannot be read in a spec sheet? Same goes for an M2 15 inch Air. Not much to say even if the latter will be big seller.

Curious what they'll have to offer, but not interested in a chip that is already a year old. Like buying the new flagship iPhone with last year's chip. (And yeah, I know that the M2 is still good enough for 99% of people.)

And we think you're gonna love it!

I do wonder thought if packing everything into one keynote means the new Macs (and OS upgrades) will be lacklustre, given they wouldn't want them to outshine the main event which is clearly the VR headset
