No big surprises. Same old story....we're trying to catch up with Android so heres something nearly identical with a catchy name. Ooooh Ahhhh!

Didn’t MacRumors report that Apple Stores were showing out of stock when trying to order a MacBook Pro?

If Apple dont release a spec refresh after ONE YEAR then that is a truly terrible way to run their business.

No, but it is ridiculous to spend 30 or 40% more for a older generation Mac over a current HP or Dell. If Apple lowered the prices on their current line, then at least it would make more sense.
I'm perfectly happy paying more for macOS, Apple's support and premium build. Currently considering a 27" iMac and I even when compared to DIY builds the difference in price is negligible. I don't know where you got the 30-40%, unless you're referring to the TB MBPs in which case you're right, I'm not willing to pay that premium for a feature that doesn't seem that much useful.

Intel....
8th gen cpus have been around for like a year..........

For the price of an iMac you can run a watercooled 8700k, 32gb 3200 ddr4, sli 1080ti, inside just about any case that you want - for well under the price of a top specced iMac.

I just did that build myself - couldnt be happier. On that you can also run Mac if you sooo wish. Not the same MacOS or customer service experience - but you mention the price difference is negligible - which couldnt be further off.

..My system dwarfs the top spec iMac Pro in certain Applications - for a quarter of the price

Everything with Apple now is “later, later, later”. Then what’s the point of this conference?

I find it refreshing that they're taking their time with things. Apple have been rushing things to meet arbitrary release schedules and it's resulting in buggy, ill-thought our software (and sometimes hardware).

I'm sick of current Apple. I want to be excited about a software/hardware release.

I'm sick of current Apple. I want to be excited about a software/hardware release.

WWDC used to be like Christmas for me (anyone remember the thinksecret powermac G5 elevator pics?). There have even been years where I would take the day off just to watch the keynote. This year with “current” Apple, I don’t even know if it’s worth my time to watch the macrumors re-cap-in under a minute.

WWDC has always largely been about software. They occasionally announce some new hardware but generally software has been the focus. Don't forget that when getting upset about the potential for little hardware.

It does if Apple is reworking any of the MacBook Pros innards, addressing the keyboard issues or is still waiting on discrete AMD Vega mobile GPUs - then prudence would say to wait on any announcement.

Intel's new Coffee Lake 45w H-Series (six-core versions) CPUs were just introduced on April 3rd of this year. The 5w Y-series (MacBook) has yet to be announced and above all, Intel staggered the roll out of its Coffee Lake (8th Gen, if you will) over a period of 9 months, which is a long time in the microprocessor world. Without announcing the 8th Gen Y-Series, they are, technically, still not done with the roll out.

There is no doubt in my mind that Apple would use Intel's introduction of their 4-core U-Series and 6-core H-Series to their advantage to rework the MacBook Pro making it slightly thicker to accommodate better cooling, a larger tiered battery, a better shielded keyboard with a revised butterfly- or even a modified scissors-based mechanism and turn the trials and tribulations of the 2016/2017 MacBook Pros into a marketing triumph. I can hear almost hear Schiller now, "In order to make the new MacBook Pro the ultimate, no compromise notebook computer, we went back to our groundbreaking 2016 MacBook Pro and re-examined everything!"

This might also be the opportunity for Apple to release a NON-touchBar version of the 15" MacBook Pro, by using the Intel G-Series CPUs (4-core i7 w/ Vega Graphics built-in) and further segment the market, which is what we have seen Apple do with both the iPhone (SE, 6s, 7, 8 and X) and the iPad (mini, iPad, iPad Pro). Doing this would allow Apple to address criticisms of the current-generation 13" and 15" MacBook Pros and turn it into a marketing win for themselves.

And if Apple does have a larger 13" MacBook waiting in the wings, then they are going to want to hold an event to showcase this new computer along with the revised MacBook Pros.

I would not be surprised if the iMacs get 8th Gen CPU updates on Monday, if nothing else.

One last thing, Apple has two optimal timeframes for releasing hardware updates, three if you count March. These are May, June, July (the Back To School season) and September, October, November (the Holiday Shopping Season).

Intel also haven't announced a successor to the CPU used in the non touch bar MacBook Pro - the 15w i5-7260U with Iris Graphics. And as already mentioned there's also no successor to the 5w Y series on the horizon. This line is in most danger of being superseded by an ARM CPU if the Marzipan rumours.

Those CPUs could also power an improved MacBook Air, or Mac Mini, although the i5-8250U has been out since late last year. It's easy to put that aside though as a quad core CPU up against dual core ones in most other 13" models would have looked wrong.

The CPUs for the Touchbar powered Macs are launched if not already available and the G series Intel i5-8305G and i7-8705G look strong contenders for some sort of product in a 15" MacBook Pro range (with or without touch bar perhaps).

The gap between the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pros was just 9 months - from October 2016 to June 2017 when there was a super upgrade of MacBook Pros and iMacs. Waiting until October this year for the MacBooks suggests something is going on - after all the gap goes from 9 months at best to potentially 15 months from the 2017 to 2018 models - last time that sort of thing happened Intel messed up with their Broadwell CPUs. Here's a call-back to an old Mark Gurman article from 2016.

This time the delay could be:

1. Waiting for Intel to launch 15w parts with Iris Graphics and/or 5w parts.
2. Apple urgently redesigning the MacBook Pro in light of keyboardgate (as nobody is calling it) ahead of what could have been a proper redesign after the 4th version of the 2016 design.
3. Knock-on due to work on modular Mac Pro/iMac Pro.
4. Work on ARM Mac :)
5. Waiting on suitable AMD mobile VEGA GPU because 500X is unsuitable?

Yes, some of these points are model specific but Apple may want to launch everything at once.

Believe me, if Tim Cook starts talking about macOS living another double life (a call back to Steve Jobs at the beginning of the PPC to Intel transition) all bets are off.

Waiting a little longer until the traditional October time frame for hardware releases will be just about ok if these changes do end up being game changing (eg bigger screen sizes, case redesigns to fix the keyboards, MBA going full retina etc) rather than spec bumps.

While I would say there's reasons for the laptops to be updated later there's probably no real reason for delaying iMacs assuming Apple want to use the Coffee Lake desktop CPUs that area already out. They might also be hoping to use the i5-8305G in the 21.5" model which could delay it to the same day as the MacBook Pros or be waiting on the next major macOS release in October for some reason.

For headless devices, though, any late release of the iMac leaves it that bit closer to the release of the modular Mac Pro and gives Mac Mini fans that bit longer to discuss the various merits of the existing Haswell system. :)

One thing Apple could be waiting on is the Xeon E entry level CPUs - the names of which got leaked a few days ago. Perhaps Apple are starting to prepare for ARM Macs by going Xeon with their proper Intel Pro products? :)

Mobile 6 core Xeons are already available.

I'm absolutely not thrilled iOS is getting left in the dust. This will now be the second consecutive year iOS will not receive its "major" update. As iOS 11 was only good for iPad, I was certainly waiting for this year's version. But now people like me -- who's experiencing little to no stability issues -- have to miss out on actually having a better experience (redesigned Home screen) using our iPhones. Meanwhile, Google and other OEMs continue out ahead offering a change of pace and not letting us get incredibly bored seeing the same old, same old, every time we pick up our devices. I'll still tune-in, but it's a joke going years in a row without a single "major" update to the OS on your flagship money maker!

There is literally an image of stylized hardware circuits on the poster. Some sort of hardware will certainly be updated.

So how can there be a surprise at WWDC if something tells us before that there’s going to be a surprise. o_O

Even if the hardware will not be available until Fall, they need to provide some kind of status on Mac hardware to freeze consumers in place. The MacBook Pro keyboard issue is too public an issue to not address now, prior to when people will be making decisions for the school season. PR wise, if this WWDC is only about software, services, and iOS devices, the perception that Apple doesn't care about Macs will only grow. Recently, I've had two friends upgrade from Macs to PCs and IMHO, they made the right choice.

I'm waiting for a new MBP like many, so that kind of stinks. But whats another few months, not the end of the world.

I suspect the delay has to do with Intel. And if they are taking more time to get a better keyboard in there, then take your time Apple. Do it right instead of rushing.

I am waiting since 2016. The price and touchbar ruined it for me. Hopefully they come up with a 15 inch version without touchbar. They can add more battery and decrease cost.

My prediction is this time next year no more AMD. Since intel is supplying apple with iphone parts they will ask for more piece of the pie and perhaps provide apple with GPU parts, therefore, goodbye to AMD. In fact ARM will put AMD out of business with their chips within 1-2 years, no way AMD can compete at low power.

I just want them to announce a new iMac. I need a new one for work, but I don't want to buy one now and then have them release a new one in a few months lol.

Good luck with a new imac...no new GPU therefore no new imac, you're best bet is to buy an imac pro its only 5 months old better value believe it or not...they have refurbished. New imacs won't come til december of this year.
