Seems like others have a different "technical" definition of a macro photo than I do. Macro photography is making a small object big in a photo. As always, somebody has a "Rule": "Macro Photography, also known as close-up photography, is the photography of small objects. A macro lens is a lens that offers a magnification of either 1:1, (1x) or sometimes only 1:2 reproduction." (SLR Lounge).

Screw the rules, it's whatever you want it to be.
Because pedantic arguments are the best kinds of internet arguments 😁 , Hallide lets you take macro photos without a macro lens.

I got the app when it was heavily discounted one time years ago. Credit to them that they give free app version upgrades.
So hidden in their release notes, this month is the last month we get their subscription features for free. (even if you paid full price before).

That also means that if you got Halide Mark II for free last year, this is the last month you will be receiving new features. We’ve worked hard for the last four and a half years to bring you new features for free. If you’d like to keep receiving these major new features, check out the renewal options inside Settings. If you prefer to keep using Halide Mark II — with Macro Mode — the app will, of course, keep working with all its current features.

Yes, that is what I am saying, I want a one time charge. I am not against developers making money, that is why they are there and they are entitled to make a living for their work. However, if they are going to revamp the app I will not pay full price again. I/we should get an upgrade price, like most other software.
What are you saying? If you already own the app there is no need to make any in-app purchase (recurring or one-time).

Are you saying that you do not currently own Halide and you don't want a subscription? Make the one-time IAP and no more charges ever.

Are you saying that you do own Halide and do not want to pay for the upgrade as a recurring or one-time charge? Good news, you don't. The IAP is only for new buyers.

As for upgrade pricing - I don't disagree thee. It is the one thing the App Store make hard for developers. There is no upgrade pricing model available in the App Store. That is one big driver to subscription based pricing. With an annual subscription model it bakes in people "upgrading" once a year. Not a perfect plan as not everyone would upgrade every release.

all current features available Forever

Gonna get flammed for this, but given that the outright app purchase only saves money after four and a bit years… that’s a bit steep. Fully appreciate they need to eat etc. and it’s a “pro” app but come on? Maybe two years of subscription for lifetime membership?
I suppose if Apple allowed upgrade prices on their App Stores it would be easier to developers to offer lower prices and still make a profit. But usually the prices of iOS/iPadOS apps are not that high when you think of all the work, time and cost incurred …

I have no issue with them making money at all, but I want to be charged for the app once and be done. I'm not going to pay monthly fees to use an app. especially for games.
Then the Apps would either cost way more, or you'd never get updates.

A subscription for a camera app is disgusting.
So is $50 for an app, but developers need to get paid. I have mixed feeling about subscription model vs single pay. My app was a one time pay, but then once everybody that was going to buy it bought it, it didn't make financial since to keep updating it and adding features (I would still fix bugs, but once they stopped being reported, I stopped updating).

I am not speaking specifically of Halide, I am saying that I prefer a developer to sell the apps...in general with an initial one time purchase price. In other words, a sale not a subscription. I will say that if it was a free download, then I don't own it. and I believe that software is IP, you never "own" it, you own the right to use it under the license agreement of the developer. I might be odd, but I am not for stealing or appropriating somebodies IP that they worked hard to create.

works for me in the Free edition - iPhone 13. not really any different than just setting the AF on the UW lens to minimum though (crop / upscale is similar to apple though you do get a 1, 2 and 3x upscale option)

when I purchase an app for the computer...Office, Adobe, etc I don't have to pay every time there is an upgrade. When there is a major version change I do have to purchase it at a discounted "upgrade" price. I had purchased an audio testing app from a developer called Faber Acoustical, it was in the $50 range, they everntually renamed it and not you need to buy it again for $75 ish dollars....I already bought the ooriiginaal one and now you want me to buy the new one AT FULL PRICE?

Subscriptions for non-updating features are a disgrace.

If there was a way to financially contribute to the downfall of such companies I would gladly do so.
I don't understand ignorant and hateful comments like this.
This app and model - which is quite flexible $ wise actually - may suit some people - and I get you don't like it.
Nobody is forcing YOU to buy it.That is your vote.
You don't have to contribute financially to this company. Why would you want to contribute to their downfall?
If the model doesn't work, the market will decide.

Just played with this for a few minutes. VERY good implementation of Macro and superior to Apple's (which granted has to be more mass-market, no-frills) but as a photographer, this is a fantastic 2.5 release. I just put Hallide back in my iPhone's dock after a few months of just shooting lazy with default camera.
Apples what? The macro mode on the 13 Pro is still superior (obviously). They literally stated that themselves.

I would buy a separated app for just “macro mode” in my 11pro max. If the price was reasonable, 50 bucks is not reasonable for me, for that only feature I would like to have.
actually, 50 dolara is more expensive than what Apple pays for that wide/macro camera in iPhone 13 pro.

I've always had this feature with Camera + with my iPhone 8 and now 12 mini.
I remember being able to take macro photos with that app as far back as my iPhone 4. Still using it to this day for dedicated photography just for the stability shots alone.
