Example with Camera +2 and normal iPhone 12 Pro

The extra Camera+ AI pulls out a bit of extra detail in the fabric vs the Apple Camera.

but yes, these don't mean you can get any closer to the object - only 3" is the closest. Camera+ and Halide are both using AI to create a zoom. I tried 2x & 3x in both apps and they were slightly more detailed than the Apple Camera app.

I updated and still getting errors saving the photo. They go to image rescue. It’s so annoying. No way I’m paying a subscription or $50 for it. I’m glad Apple’s own app already shoots ProRAW. I’m deleting this app.

Was tempted, but not anymore. If you don't like subscriptions as they mention, you can also buy the app for $50. I completely understand that they want to make money, but that is a pretty steep price. Maybe worth it for some, but not for me.
Yeah, that’s pretty cheap when you consider a DSLR and a macro lens. And some of those macro setups just get more expensive from there. Halide is THE go to camera app for iOS devices. IMHO $50 is a reasonable price for what you get.

Seems not bad slightly better quality than the digital zoom in the standard photo app.

I would buy a separated app for just “macro mode” in my 11pro max. If the price was reasonable, 50 bucks is not reasonable for me, for that only feature I would like to have.
actually, 50 dolara is more expensive than what Apple pays for that wide/macro camera in iPhone 13 pro.
You’re not going to do much with just a camera module.

I am perplexed by so many people throwing a fit over Halide pricing.

There are other apps out there that do "software Macro" (and some were mentioned in this discussion). You are totally welcome to get one of them.

I do not use Halide myself; but I'll go on a limb and say that they probably know their target audience and customer. I'd call them a "prosumer" camera folks, and it is IMO perfectly acceptable to ask for $12 / year for something that gives you results that you specifically need.

You likely do not need Halide and all of the stuff it brings to the table. That's OK. There are other apps.

Yep. This is what happens when people get accustomed to free or dollar apps that don't do much. You’re literally getting value from the app every time you take a photo with it.

Tried it but default camera app with 2x seemed to produce sharper images than Macro mode in this app fom me on iPhone 11 Pro. Focus is correct with focus peaking.

P.S. Tried another subject and now got more details in Halide with all manual controls. Good.

Glad I bought Halide back when the XR came out and it was only $6 and nothing more. No way I could justify $50 for it or paying monthly.

I used to really like Halide until they decided to start taking the mick with app subscription costs. I wouldn’t have minded them charging a flat fee for H2 and then adding these extra features through IAP as I wanted to support the dev but £50 buys me a new lens for my DSLR on the 2nd hand market; an app isn’t half as useful.

So I went back to an old favourite and brought Camera+2 and their video app REC too.

A subscription for a camera app is disgusting.
It's a subscription (or one time purchase) for a very advanced camera app with lots of extra controls. What is disgusting about that? Do you just expect everything to come to your free? Do you work for free?

So if I use this mode on my iPhone 13 Pro it’s basically an electron microscope now and I can distinguish between individual atoms? Sweet.

Nice of macrumors to point this out. But it’s maddening to go to the App Store and try and find that information in the halide listing. Upfront they point out it’s not a free app and that there will be subscriptions but I’ll be damned if it was easy – I’m tempted to say even possible — to find what the prices are. I can’t imagine any other product I buy anywhere, any time where pricing is harder to find. It’s ridiculous. They should be specified clearly at the top of the product listing. Otherwise are we to suspect that the product features are as hard to find as the prices?
Tip: In the app store page for the app you can scroll down to the bottom, there is (for all apps not just this one) a list of top in app purchases. This way you can generally figure out the monetization before you install the app. On Halide, it lists the monthly, yearly and one-time price.

My thought too. In the grand scheme of things, I think the $50 price would be acceptable if there were no subscription options at all.
Not long ago people gladly paid 50 bucks or more for a game without actually knowing if they were going to play it much. I’ve had my share of games that didn’t last more than a day. Today, everything above $5 is a ripoff… Also, interesting how people complain about a subscription that is actually a pretty good deal compared to outright purchase, and is not that steep compared to a lot of less useful stuff on the app store.

this is what I did a year ago. I give Adobe $50 a month, Apple $35 a month and Office $9 a month. I would prefer to pay them just one time and I'm thrilled Hallide offers that. there's only one subscription I have via the App Store which is 1Blocker for $6.99 a year. The rest I'm on annual plans with like I pay HBO Max, Sirius just one time per year. Hulu+Disney included in my Verizon plan but I'm a huge fan of annual / one-time over monthly.
Do you get paid one-time at work for your services?
