Has anyone seen anything about offline maps? I have a Garmin Fenix 7X. It has tops of all of NA (or other areas if I choose).

This is much needed for an outdoor watch. Has anyone seen anything about this?

Maybe offline Gaia maps?

Thanks.

I didn't see this anywhere but I'm assuming the current bands don't fit this thing right? not that I'm getting one, but just curious.

Do I have to be a super-athlete to buy it? Will they sell it to an overweight middle aged guy, or will wearing it scream "poser"?

As someone who has worn big watches you can tell by the marks that people who have been wearing it have been catching it on the surroundings.

It might be a bit big, especially with the screen being more fragile that a nice thick sapphire.

I had a look at 45 mm band they say they are compatible with 49 mm watches so they should fit. Maybe not all but some at least.

I ordered one the moment they were available, then had to triple check to make sure I am getting the cellular version. I guess Apple knows me and checked the box for me. I can't wait to order the phone to go with it.

I have one quick question. I know I will be in my home city when the watch arrives, but the timing on the phone might place me in NYC. Is there any way to choose a NY store for pickup, when I don't live in that city?

Wow thats a big ol’ thing. I previously criticised the design for scuba use… but hang on. With that lump on my wrist I can probably ditch my integrated weights!

No satellite SOS on this 1st Ultra model -> Miss! if I am going to invest that much $. We’ll see next year with my plans to upgrade my AW5.

Also can we get that big & beautiful 49mm screen on a regular AW? Some of us don’t need depth charge detection or hyper compass measurements.

All Ultras include cellular.

The Ultra doesn't have a non-cellular version.

You can pick up at any store in the US you want... I live in NYC and I've picked up products in NJ, Delaware and Florida.

Now I understand why Jony had to sever his association with Apple before September 2022. I wouldn't be surprised if LoveFrom puts out a statement that they had no part in the design of this.

VERY suprised Apple did not give this watch satellite connectivity to make it a true Garmin competitor.
No Garmin watches have satcomm connectivity...not sure it's possible in such a small form factor. Some (Fenix, Epix, etc.) DO pair with Garmin's inReach devices.

Yeah, I can't really get my head around this one--Garmin's onboard maps and navigation capabilities are first rate. Apparently with AW, you must use 3rd-party apps (Google Maps apparently does this, as well as WorkOutDoor and several others). But, for something pitched as an essential tool for the great outdoors, lack of native onboard maps is a real head-scratcher.

About the name though...they copying Samsung now?
They're copying each other. Samsung introduced a new high end activity watch they called the Galaxy Watch5 Pro. Apple then comes out with the Apple Watch Ultra (no Series 8).

Why would the target market care about that? It's not supposed to be a watch you wear to a fancy dinner, lol! It's function over form here.

So true, lol. But I’m pretty sure the majority ordering this will not be rock climbing or sprinting through a desert. But if it encourages people to exercise more that’s a good thing.
