They should just make the whole back aluminum like they did with the 1st. iPhone.

You know the first one wasn't all metal either. In fact it had a black plastic bottom on the back that really did not fit in and looked really ugly imho (so it really amuses me you are wishing for that instead). At least on this new design:

1. It's symmetrical rather than just one different color on one side

2. it is quite possible they will do the duller black metal with the black glass that one post a while back showed that actually looked nice. I agree I'm not too enthused if they make the metal silver and bright with black glass ends. But I still think it looks better than the first cause at least it's a symmetrical design).

Me thinks my next phone will be a Lumia 920

What would I do? I'm no artist, but I'd start by matching the color of those bands to blend in and fade away with the rest of the back so they're not even noticeable.
.

And they might actually be doing that (a previous rumor showed a design like you say). Thing is, this is a model by a case manufacturer, they dont' need it to be accurate by colors, just by dimensions ;). So I wouldn't say the look is set in stone (at least for stuff like colors or even materials) by this model make up they made.

In fact the mock up I saw of it being a dull black in the middle and the shiny glass black at the ends I thought looked better than just one solid color along the back. Though I would prefer one solid color to making the middle silver and the ends black like the mockup here has (I do think that is ugly).

Having colors like that only looks fine cause they show it with similar colors on the screen. You really don't want anything but a nuetral color surrounding the screen otherwise when you have a screen that constantly changes images the surround of the screen will take away/clash/distract from the images on the screen (and I imagine most people want to focus on the images on the screen). This isn't like it's a static picture where you can find a good color to compliment the picture for the frame. The picture will keep changing and you can't guarantee cause the color goes with one image it will go with another.

Then keep your 4S. Or buy a really pretty flip phone. Or just shut up. It's a bloody phone, it's not a necessity.

Absoltuley agree. I can't believe the p*ssing and moaning going on about the two-tone and the antenna bands.
There's nothing odd or wrong with the design. Looks fine.
Besides, most of the whiners will probably be putting it in case, so moot point.

It's the same phone but longer. These guys are geniuses...

Can someone PLEASE explain the purpose of that ugly two tone?

The iPhone 4 was always going to be hard to beat, and I don't think is the device to take the design crown from it.

So ugly... I pray to god this is not real

I thought they would make that whole thing black. That includes the metal around the iPhone. What's up with that? I kind of like that the iPhone was all black. Pff now it looks even more like a iPhone 4/4S.

this design will never happen

To get people excited over a steaming pile ***** with an apple logo.

As much as I love apple products this is butt ugly. :(

Same repeated news, same people whining, same stupid repeated 'doublingdowniphone567xlgettingS3instead' comments and yet 100+ replies from the same people talking the same nonsense.

I don't get it.

Gosh that thing is hideous.

It just feels...uninspiring and lacking.

Millions of people will be saying the same thing and will still line up to buy one. Every company on earth dreams of having customers who will blindly buy anything they produce.

Outside of the fanboy world, even among actually smart Apple user like me, everybody knows this iPhone 4SS is an uninnovative ***** brick.

If you're not dumb and didn't let yourself be convinced by Apple ******** PR and controlled leaks, you very well know that this iPhone is ugly, not innovative and even a step back in design.

The lone voice of reason.

I've never lined up to buy any Apple (or other) product and i certainly don't intend to start with iPhone 6.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. Seriously... the new iPhone looks awesome and it will break all sales records again.

To each their own. I won't be contributing to those sales records though.

I've played with a Cyan Lumia and was happy with it overall.

Now there's some smart thinking. Buy your phone based on how it looks rather than how it performs.

Those look like they came from Toys R Us.

Smart thinking, assuming you know how a user is selecting their next device. I've used Windows Phone and wouldn't be considering a Lumia 920 if i wasn't happy with performance of the OS. The device also has decent specs.

1.5GHz DC CPU
1GB RAM
32GB storage
8MP Cam
4.5" HD display

They may look like they came from Toys R Us but to me they're far more interesting than a glorified iPhone 4S with two-tone colour.

Whats wrong with that Nokia phone? Or do you thrown up just because it isnt apple branded?

This iPhone is an evolution of an award winning and sales monster design. It seems to fix a few of the nuances of previous generations such as the speaker and microphone grill is always getting dirt in it which can affect the reliability of things such as Siri, the new design should help alleviate the problem. The rear was always subject to breaking, again the metal should prevent this. When you have the phone in your hand, you have it the right way up. However when you put it in the pocket it goes in upside down. Moving the earphones to the bottom means you do not have to rotate the phone when removing it from the pocket.

Although I think the odds are 1 in a million that what I'm about to say will turn out to be true, I'll say it anyway..

What if Apple is pranking everyone with these "leaks?"

I, for one, will be laughing my ass off if these parts were leaked intentionally and aren't completely representative of the final iPhone 5 design!

Mark

This is what I have an issue with, I don't mind the 2tone, I just hate how close the camera is to the bottom of the black glass, looks wrong and unbalance. It's not a deal breaker but I would of thought apple would have more sense than that.

Totaly agree, I think are parts of the iPod Touch prototype mounted on a intentionaly custom build case.

What case manufacturer is "confident" enough to start making cases in volume when they haven't even seen the REAL device yet?

That would be like making an aftermarket bumper for a car using only the spy photos of the car in testing.

Let's hope at least one case manufacturer waits to see if it even fits...

This reminds me of last year before the 4S came out. So many people were convinced that it would have that ugly ass teardrop shape that a few case manufacturers started producing cases for a non-existent phone.

Many things are considered beautiful now that were seen as ugly before. That's because people don't like what's good, they like what they are used to. Of course, something truly awful will never become beautiful through the passage of time - it may merely become palatable. Great design, however, frequently looks odd and even ugly at first but then, as people begin to understand it, they come to love it. Something ugly becomes beautiful.

Apple has a right to "impose" what it thinks of as beautiful because they make the damn things! It's up to them to figure out what they think is wonderful and then to try to convince us they are right. They're very good at this because, frankly, they often are right. I certainly don't agree with all of Apple's design choices. I think the iPod nano has been on the decline since the first generation which was gorgeous and the Shuffle was never a great design as far as I'm concerned. The iPhone 3G and 3Gs are, in my opinion, OK but not wonderful looking devices and not nearly as beautiful as the original. The 4/4s is among the most beautiful designs in a mass produced item in history if you ask me and the new iPhone design looks to be shaping up to be a worthy successor. /QUOTE]

That's where you are wrong, true beauty is percieved immediatly, and does not require a getting used to periode. And if it does, thats not the point in the case of the new iPhone, because it's not a radical change. Besides, you look at the world in a very naive way dude. The reason why Apple "decides" what is beautiful is their popularity and their cult followers, not because Apple has some divine knowledge. If any other less popular compony had made the iPhone 4 design, it wouldn't had sold that much and it wouln't be considered beautiful.

To sum up, if a big majority likes the design at first sight, then it truely is beautiful. If that perception is only achieved by popularity and conformity, then it's not. So now with this new iPhone, the majority don't really like it (ofcourse the fanboys like yourself do, like always) and at the same time, it's not a radical change, it will never be truely beautiful. Doesn't mean ofcourse it can't be populair and sold in huge numbers, but that's just conformity, achieved by the marketing strategy of Apple (elitism).

The 'majority' don't like it? What majority is that, the MacRumors Forum? Yeah, I'd say they're about 1/nth % of the iPhone users and purchasers of the world. Come down to earth. The new phone looks essentally like the 4/4s. That sold millions and millions, apparently the 'majority' liked it. They'll like the new one too, and purchase in vast quantities.

You are actualy wrong about beauty at first sight. At one time, skinny and scrawny was not considered beautiful, now it is. Perhaps you don't have enough life experience to make your earlier statements.

It is ugly. Oh... and if you see my sig, I am currently using a Galaxy S III.

really don't mind the nokia's design look. Just not ready to commit to a windows phone yet. That being said, I think that the wp7 is better the than android. Only a matter of time before everyone catches on.

Tastes differ but between "throwing up" and "dont liking it" there is a vast difference.

Compared to the S3 I like the nokia better, the S3 is very bland .
