... that's not exactly consumer friendly ...

I do NOT believe Apple developed this for Consumers.

I believe they developed for their Content Partners, & will grant each of them some number of them for FREE.

I ALSO believe the pricing is somewhat similar to what the Pentagon did decades ago when this listed the cost of certain toilets at $20,000 USD !

Does anyone remember the reason for that ?

It's very-likely the same reason this new Display (& Stand) costs what it does !

I don't need a monitor like this but would love to see one in-store. Anyone know if the Mac Pro with monitor will be demo'd in stores? I was at a local store last week but that might have been too early to see a Mac Pro as none were present.
I was looking for the display last weekend as well.

You'd think they'd want to stock and show these things off, right?

The Pro Display XDR connects to the standalone stand using super strong magnets, and the whole setup feels sturdy and high-quality, as it should at this price point.
Every time I read the phrase "price point," I cringe. Why not just say "price"?

Even though Apple has price-pointed it beyond what I can afford, I'd love to see one of these in person. ;)

The video was frustrating to watch. I was waiting to hear “first impressions“, but it was just a recitation of features and specs that we already knew. What is it like to use the display? Is the subjective quality head and shoulders above something like an iMac? Only noticeable to the trained eye? Is it quiet? How bright is the maximum brightness? A monitor can only be judged in person, so I was anxious to hear about the actual experience, not just info you can find on the product page.

Such a small Apple logo for such a criminally big price. This “pro” display can’t even refresh at 120hz. Garbage for professional speedrunning video games.

So, this 1M:1 contrast ratio. Is static like in the “Eizo Prominence CG3145 “ which uses dual LCD design or dynamic (i.e. HDR only)?
How many 3D lookup tables? 14bit, 16bit?
How many inputs does it have (apart from 1x TB3)? HDMI 2.1?
Does it support calibration, Calman, 3D LUTs, multiple user calibrated presets?

I know it’s 6K, but that’s it. Asus PA32UCG (4K only) will have 120Hz, same brighteness, and all calibration goodies professionals need.

All I know is Apple made a grand, grand PR mistake by not just including the stand with the monitor and adding $1000 to the price. They could've avoided all the memes and hate comments.

That's assuming it wasn't done for that exact reason.
The memes are also free advertising, sure it may be negative advertising but it’s advertising nonetheless.

I’m no expert on US tax law, but I believe businesses can write off a significant percentage of business expenses against taxes owed, no?

If so, they are effectively getting these things at a significant discount.

Pretty sure they don't care, because nobody who is in the target market for this monitor cares about memes and what silly people say online -- they care that they can get a monitor for $5K-$7K that competes with monitors that cost $30K+. Btw, many pros are going to use this with the VESA mount, which is $200 -- why should they pay an extra $800 for something they won't use?

Not at all. Every single professional using that new stand raves rightly so about its capabilities. You people meaning you non-professional consumers have absolutely zero clue on the Kinematics and interior working parts of that assembly, and yet expect it to be included in the price.

You will never buy a reference monitor so just stop whining already.

Exactly. Considering the price of what this monitor is compared to it made no sense to announce them separately on stage. Just announce it’s $6K. But a bigger mistake is not offering a stand alone display with an iMac panel.

It's a discount, but you may not be understanding how it works. You don't get a credit of the purchase price of the monitor that gets subtracted from overall taxes owed. Rather, you may be able to deduct the price of the purchase from your total annual income, so the total amount you owe taxes on is less. For many businesses that could be somewhere between a few percent discount from the MSRP, to maybe 20% discount. So definitely nice! But not a total game-changer.

LOL you're assuming Apple makes marketing decisions for products exclusively aimed at professionals, based on how people like you, non-professionals who wouldn't buy the product under any circumstance, will react. I can guarantee you that this is a mistaken assumption.

I got mine today also but am having trouble driving the display with the 16" MBP. Please see my thread here.

I have no use for this monitor, but glad it serves a niche need. I do hope Apple releases a more consumer friendly version ~$500 range.

Well, it’s very common MacRumors videos are usually only just impression, except iPhone/iPad which quite comprehensive. For Mac reviewing test you should wait for AppleInsider or other sites which giving real testing in real scenarios of works.

Man, I want the XDR Nano so bad. I love my ACD's and I am looking for a replacement for so many years.
I just wish Apple had a 5K version at a more reasonable price. I would buy at least two of them.
The same, but I would accept that in a smaller 5K 27" form factor with fewer local dimming zones and less bright backlighting. And by reasonable, $1499 would be ideal, but I am even willing pay $1799, the very sum that gets you an entry level 27" 5K iMac with keyboard and mouse.

People actually buying it don’t give a crap about that.

Not looking for a comprehensive review. Just some actual impressions. Dan said he has been excited to try this monitor since it was announced. So? Was he blown away? Mildly impressed? Extremely disappointed? What did he like or not like in the first few hours? I have no idea what his reaction was by watching the video. It’s all dry and factual without any feeling or impressions of using the monitor in real life.
