I just got one and while I feel it's a very nice iPad, and is a bit better than its predecessors, I don't think there's anything fundamentally revolutionary about it. Scrolling and other animations are nice and smooth, but 120 Hz refresh is not going to change your life, I feel like that's being a bit overblown.

Fair enough. I just compare my headphones based on price. And while i love the AirPods , the sound is mehish ....but they are brilliant for gym.

Honestly, I should not have used "crap" to define the sound, it's fine.
I agree they are superb for the gym.

I love my new iPad love love love it!!!!
I'm officially in the fan club. It's a piece of art. I love it. It's kind of what it should always have been but better late than never. That screen when scrolling is beautiful. It's a pleasure to read on it.

You're kinda right. I guess it's subjective but I must admit I really love that scrolling fluidity. It's super smooth. And that machine is FAST!

In the iPad forum, someone tested it and it is not USB 3 transfer speed for iTunes restore.

That really put me off from going for it

That was what I had read also which was why I was surprised to see it mentioned in the article. However, I did just sync it with a Thunderbolt 2 dock with several USB 3 ports and while I didn't measure the transfer speed it is syncing faster than the older 9.7" iPad Pro on the same machine. It doesn't appear to be USB 3 speeds though, but seems to be somewhat faster.

If I had time, I'd sync the same set of photos to each (a 256GB iPad Pro 9.7" and a 512GB iPad Pro 10.5). Perhaps I will try it in a few weeks when I have a bit more time.

How exactly? Genuinely curious.

It's slower than it was a few years ago. Touch screen isn't always as responsive as it should do be. Honestly very minor complaints, it's been great for well over three years. I will definitely take a serious look at the new model.

Running iOS11 on the 9.7.. I've never found last year's model slow, in any way, it's still crazy fast.. Nor do i have problems with lag with the pencil. I'm really happy they're continuing to buff up the line. :D Those extra 2GB make it a no brainer for artists who want to work with loads of layers, etc.

iOS 11 is great on everything I've tried with it so far, but particularly iPads, wow its a biiiig improvement. I hope they continue to support the less RAM endowed machines long into the future though.

.. Just read back some of the arguments about 60/120fps.. Funny. Its very easy to see the difference between those two fps for most people, whether it makes much difference is subjective and depends on what you do with your iPad.

And with the shrinking of bezels the iPad/Pro will probably be the next one on the chopping block after the iPhone gets a make-over.

Ruining a near-perfect consumption/mobile OS by layering on more and more "productivity" features is a mistake if you ask me. You will never get to the right level of productivity, and you will ruin some of the already good consumption aspects in the attempt. IMO, there should simply be two separate computing modes...tablet mode (basically iOS 10) and "Mac-ish mode", still iOS, but mouse/keyboard friendly, drag and drop, and full windowing, and a few other things. I mean, MS learned this lesson the hard way (in reverse) with Windows 8...and what did they settle on? A two mode approach.

Anyone know what app this is in the advertising?

ipad-pro-draw-colors.jpg

I have wanted to know about that one and this one:

Anyone ever figure out what these two apps are?

I just checked out the new 10.5" Pro. Very nice and I think it will be a nice upgrade from the original Air that I currently have. It's tempting.

I played with it at the AS yesterday. The new refresh rate is really great, and although the tablet looks pretty much the same as the 9.7'' when I went back to it I immediately felt like I needed more real estate for my apps.
I'm going to stick with my Air 2 for another year since it is still a good tablet, but if I had to buy a tablet today I'd go for the new Pro, even if the iPad launched in spring is much cheaper and provides a good user experience

Apple's strategy is quite strange on the headphone jack. I need to keep two pairs of headphones in my bag, one for my iPhone and another for my Mac/iPad.
They're very inconsistent and very un-apple like with that. I'm not sure how they can argue how it took courage to replace a 100 year old component (for the iPhone), yet they keep it in their Macs and iPads. I mean if they do indeed have a superior replacement, then use it for their other products.

Is there any lag going from the lightning dongle? You can't get rid of the jack on any pro / multimedia device because most of the music apps would be unusable to do audio lag. Headphone jack is a necessity.

For musicians especially. Lots of bands plug their amps directly into the iPad.

I'll never get these statements. Clearly, the technology wasn't there in the beginning. That's like driving a Tesla and saying, "This is what the Model T should have been, but better late than never."

I purchased the new iPad 10.5 and it is a fine machine and a good upgrade. What was disappointing was that Apple does not offer a case cover for the back of the iPad. I purchased the one for the front. However, the back is completely exposed & vulnerable to damage if it collides with anything. Also, the camera lens sticks out on the back & is just asking to be damaged. Maybe I am missing where they offer a "back case" but I spoke with two Apple techs and they did not see it for offering. These devices are not cheap and that Apple would overlook this is not a good sign. They now are a huge company and perhaps we are seeing the beginning of the demise for the famous attention to detail.

I'll point out a couple things:
1) Drag and drop on iOS actually makes certain things a bit easier, productivity or not. If I want to share multiple photos with someone over iMessage or Mail, iOS 11 on the iPad is a much better experience.
2) Windows 8 was a "two mode" approach. You had the desktop, and you had the "new" experience. It was a mess for a variety of reasons beyond one vs two modes, one being that the two modes were entirely different environments. And I'd argue that while Windows 10 is an improvement, it is more of an improvement by trying to make the desktop more touch-friendly (and carrying legacy apps for the ride, so to speak), and ditching the second environment in favor of tweaks applied to the desktop environment.
