iPad is becoming more and more of a PC replacement for a lot of people , especially once iOS11 hits. 2-3 years down the line, by next year, it's possible they can give the MacBook a run for their money.
Confused by this. No need to wait 3 years. They could make the MacBook touch screen and remove the keyboard and you instantly have that powerful iPad that you don't have to wait 2 years for.

Except that the gui of macos is terrible for touch controls.
And do you really think that in the keyboard of a macbook is only a... keyboard?
In the keyboard part there is the mitherbiard, cpu, gpu, storage and battery, cooling.
Yes, let' s just get rid of it...

Anyone know what app this is in the advertising?

Really impressed with my 10.5 so far. Screen and size are amazing and everything is super fast. iOS 11 has been a pleasant surprise thus far and there is no way I am going back to iOS 10. Apple really nailed this one.

I got my 10.5 inch yesterday. I previously was using a 12.9 first gen. The screen is definitely an improvement. It brought back that same feeling I had when I first upgraded to iPad 3 from a first gen iPad (which in hindsight was a terrible iPad). I’m on iOS 11 and the features work as good as advertised and with my Microsoft Office 365 subscription, I’m able to get a lot done. That being said, coming from an iPad Pro 12.9, the screen is a lot smaller than I was expecting. Many of the multitask features that would have been impossible on the 9.7 are manageable on the 10.5, but is much more suitable for the 12.9. I miss the bigger screen, but I will be able to make do with this in time.

ScanSnap S1100i has served me well for years.
I mean totally portable scanning device!
Can you scan a book page (or part!) with your super-big (compared to the "protruding iPad camera") scanner? What about documents and notes sticked on a wall? Do you keep removing staples?
I'm glad ScanSnap served you well; I need more.

Um thanks for pointing out the obvious to me re the keyboard
So re the os it's a question of the software being adapted not the os

Got mine yesterday, to replace my iPad mini 1 from 2012. I immediately installed the iOS 11 Developer Beta on it and it is amazing!! So far, I'm very, very impressed!
How do you feel about the size and weight difference coming from the mini?

I find that to be a complete Placebo effect. I could read scrolling text on my iPad Air 2 already. I used them both side-by-side yesterday, and there is zero difference. No "ghosting" or anything else like that while scrolling on the iPad Air 2. I rarely say that, but Apple's marketing team has definitely scored big here.

I watch live video on my older devices, with the scrolling ticker at the bottom like news, and I can read it just fine.

Yes. The latency is much better from testing yesterday .

AirPods are awesome, super convenient , still crap sound though. They get destroyed by same price wired headphones/earphone. Headphone jack stays :)
Nonsense. Sound quality is very good for that level of headphone. Responsive bass and treble. And of course other wired headphones are better quality for the same price. What a bizarre statement.

Apple's strategy is quite strange on the headphone jack. I need to keep two pairs of headphones in my bag, one for my iPhone and another for my Mac/iPad.
The lightning headphones work fine on any lightning device as far back as the iPhone 5. So they should work on your iPad too.

Multitasking features impossible on the 9.7” in comparison to the 10.5”? Not sure what you mean. It’s only slightly bigger than the 10.5, but I have the 1st gen 12.9... and I definitely wouldn’t go down toward the smaller screen.

Now, if you were to say multitasking features are impossible on the 9.7 in comparison to the 12.9”, that would be true... since you can have full view apps in SplitView instead of just half view.

I got the 12.9 instead of the 10.5, but obviously they are very similar. Loving it so far. At this point I'm 90% sure this can be a replacement for my aging MacBook Pro. Still testing. But so far so good. Love the pencil too. Best drawing experience I've had on a tablet yet.

Can the ProMotion be turned off to save battery?

No. I believe ProMotion works automaticaly to adjust the refresh rate according to what's on the screen, i.e., slower when viewing text, faster when watching a video or playing a fast motion oriented game.

Good to know. Will definitely upgrade to the new 12.9 vs the 9.5. For illustration, it's a no brainer.

There are some significant software bugs with the new iPad Pro. Don't understand why that would be the case when I am running 10.3.2. TV App works fine after I reinstalled as a new iPad, but when I downloaded a rental, the app is stuck on recently added.

Which is going to be covered up with your fingers. For a small device like a phone it's possible, but you can't cup an iPad to hold it.
Apple will come up with some innovative way to solve that.

No it is just logic.
Since ipad doesn' t have 3dtouch, haptic feedback, and a force touch homebutton/touchid, it will keep the headphone jack, since there is still enough space in the Ipad, and for the ipad it isn' t as necessary to add waterproofing as a smartphone.
When it gets these features, it will be a different story.
I think apple has carefully planned the elimination of the headphone jack on the iphone.
The iphone 7 was sacrificed for the iphone 8/x receiving too much bad press, and bad publicity, since there definitely wouldn' t be enough room in the iphone 8/x for a headphone jack with the borderless display, virtual/in-screen force touch homebutton, etc.
Since the iphone 8/x will have a wireless charging option, there will be a possibility to use the lightning port while charging, so it will be less of an issue.
In 2 years: no more headphone jack in the ipad.

Agreed. Logical point. :apple:

What about damn case!!!! the Air2 case is no longer availablle :-( so sad, and we are left with 3rd party like Moko one. Cheap but is it good enough? Now my 10.5 is naked and not YET protected!!!!
Apple is really missing some key points lately. The sleeve is not enough and not practical, what if we dont need the keyboard???
#frustrated the device itself is really nice and the first one that made me buy a new iPad!

its a £30 SQ in a £160 unit. How is that very good? Its got identical sound quality of the EarPods .

You are contradicting your own statement.

A move in the right direction. It's about [___] time !!

I think I read that the mini isn't nearly as profitable so, if it gets the axe, that's probably why. Now, Apple did offer us the iPhone SE which is a great value and didn't alienate those who prefer the smaller, pocketable, smartphone. I'm really do hope they do some bezel magic with the mini and give it pencil support. That would be awesome !! With no other major product breakthroughs I don't see why not.

There were rumors that a mini pro was supposed to show up this year, but I guess those were just rumors.
