He says the new iPad is an A15. It's A14.

If only it were A15, for that price. No, if you want an A15 you have to get the 1 year old iPad mini.

Such an odd product lineup, this one. I'll hold out for the M1 iPad Mini, hopefully next year and sooner than later. Love my M1 Air and M1 Mac mini
Seems like the next mini should get A16 or A17, whichever makes the most sense for Apple by that time (but judging by this release it might be the former). As with iPhones, I’m not sure there’s really a good reason to have an M-series chip in an iPad mini, but, again, I could always be wrong.

If the first gen Pencil has the lightning connector you can stick it in your iPhone to charge it.

Today I ordered the new M2 12.9" iPad Pro through my carrier. I upgraded from my current 2020 4th gen 12.9" iPad Pro. I'll get a better screen, 5G, WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.3, Pencil hover,...

I look forward to a 16" iPad Pro.

The yellow colour is a nice version of yellow.

To me the price and Apple Pencil dongle debacle ruins the 10th gen. I’d have rather not have the camera there and gained 2nd gen pencil capability. I’ve said it a few times already, get the 9th or a refurb air 4, much better values either way. With that plus the price of the keyboard you might as well even get an M1 Air. Just an odd move.
Hm, I wonder if it’s ruined for the vast majority of people who have no intention of ever using it with an Apple Pencil….

Also, it’s not really THAT expensive. But everyone has their own situation. Which is kind of the whole point of this iPad. It’s an option. There’s a cheaper iPad, and more expensive iPads. Buy the one you want, it’s glorious.

Your anger at the Apple Pencil series one set up is my favorite moment of all your videos so far. Hilarious. And you are correct, it's a bonkers decision.

How does the hinge work on the regular ipad's new folio? Folio looks great and a huge improvement over the magic setup IMO. That's what I love about Surface Pros, the kickstand is mechanical, very robust and has infinite levels. The Apple one looks like it's just resistance?

The mini is often on sale for $399 and it has a better processor, so I’d spring for that over the new iPad, if I was in the market for a lower cost iPad.

Only sort of better. The Mini has the binned A15 that has 5GPU cores, 4GB of RAM, and is downclocked to 2.9GHz - in practical CPU usage it's the same as an A14. You just get the GPU and NPU benefits.

I feel like the 10 is for people who value the camera over the pencil, and the Air is for people who value the pencil over the camera. The 10 is a cheap Air and the Air is a premium 10.

I bought and am expecting today the new iPad Pro 12.9. I have the iPad Pro 12.9 from 2018, which if you will remember, is the first generation of the iPad Pro in it's current form factor. I'm feeling a bit silly about spending the money because really, the 2018 version works perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with it, nothing I do with it that I can't do any more. I'm hoping the better screen and updated processors and such will help make me feel less foolish about it, but time will tell. Apple will give me $290 as trade in for the 2018 iPad Pro, which takes a little bit of a bite out of the price. I really hope it wasn't all a big fat waste of time and money (no interest in a 16" iPad pro, the current size is perfect for me).

Thanks Dan for the great videos and showing the features. I always appreciate your videos.

"Apple has made the iPad line a bit confusing with the addition of the iPad because it is so similar to the iPad Air. It's essentially an iPad Air without an M-series chip."

I respectfully disagree. The Air has a much better display, and the Air supports the current Apple Pencil while the new iPad only supports the 1st generation Pencil, introduced back in 2015--the same year the iPhone 6S was introduced.

And as you say in the video, the fact that using the Pencil now requires an adapter AND a cable is one of the weirdest and dumbest design decisions Apple has made.

The iPad Air has MANY advantages over the new iPad and costs only a little more - especially since there are frequent discounts on the Air 5. It's also possible to find refurbished Air 4 units for about the same price as the new iPad. Either is a better option for many.

The only thing the new iPad beats the Air on is the placement of the internal webcam. For me, that's not nearly enough to make me choose it over the Air.

Why Apple has mini-LED in the 12.9" Pro and not the smaller 11" is beyond me. Is it to differentiate the 12.9" from 11 to boost profit? They should really call it the 11" iPad Pro Light.

Correction to the video: If you already own a Pencil 1 you don't need the new adapter. Use your iPhone's cable with the Lightning adapter the Pencil came with. If you buy a new Pencil 1, you can choose which adapter is in the box.

The low-cost iPad got a much bigger update, but it's unfortunately not as low-cost anymore, with pricing that starts at $449 instead of $329. It no longer has thick bezels and a Touch ID Home button, with Apple instead transitioning to the same Touch ID power button used for the iPad Air and the iPad mini.

Pay more money, get more features. And Apple gets more revenue (and profit).

Just like any other consumer good, from any other company.

I think your solution would work for charging purposes of the pencil. However been awhile since I used my Gen 1 pencil but if I recall in order to pair the pencil to the ipad you had to insert the pencil into the lightning port which obviously you cant do now without the adapter because of USB C

I wonder if thats true.

Do people get upsold at the Apple Store? Because, the website isn’t doing it.
That's where this product will sell. When people come in looking for a low cost iPad, and they see the lagging 9th gen iPad for $329, and a much newer looking iPad at only $449. $120 upsell is more likely than the $270 upsell to an iPad Air.

I think if someone is going to buy a 10th gen iPad, the USB-C Native Logitech Crayon makes much more sense.

Just dug out my gen 1 pencil and yes until I plugged it into the lightning port on the ipad it was not usable for me. I am pretty sure need the adapter to do initial pairing with the ipad.
That's the iPad 9, but the iPad 10 is designed to pair via cable instead of the iPad's port so it may still pair with the Lightning cable.

Yeah you would think so. I was thrown off in the video when he said he could not even try the pencil until they got the backordered adapter?? I guess as users get these in their hands might get more info and see if the cable solution you mentioned works or not
