Back to the good ol days of keeping our phones away from stereo speakers, huh?
Was that a thing? I don't recall.

I have a Bluetooth mouse near my iPhone/iPad dock, and I hope this isn't a universal problem. Even if it is, I can't wait to get my AirPods.

Remember when Apple cared about sound quality? Maybe that was too long ago for people to remember. Apple did buy Beats after all and Beats headphones don't even have listed specs (frequency range, dB handling, wattage) and usually sound pretty poor. What happened???

Obviously you haven't brushed up on your research skills but you postin' like you know a little somethin' somethin':
Apple to Charge $69 to Replace a Lost or Broken AirPod
airpodrepairs-800x397.jpg

Now what was that again?

If you want to play on the internet with the big boys, you first need to get your facts straight.

No go ahead, complain about the price.
That's what's next right?
LOL $138 for a battery out of warranty. Both will likely go at the same time or near each other. So your mr big guy argument falls flat. But thanks for pointing out that there are 2 batteries in play...I forgot about that. So there are 2 batteries to replace....case and airpods.

Hello. I received AirPods. I have issue with them and everyone who get it too. When I’m listening music sound is good, but when I’m calling or talking to Siri sound(not my voice, I mean sound of Siri or person with who I’m talking) is very very poor and laggy. It happens only when microphone is active. AirPods are working, but when mic is active sound became very bad quality, but then after mic is turn off (after call or talk to Siri) sound became good again. All my friends have same issue. I tried to reproduce it on my MacBook, all the same issue with iPhone, MacBook and Apple Watch. Its mean that its not depend of iOS and macOS version and king of device. On MacBook you can reproduce it for example when you’re listening to music you can go to setting and try to change AirPods mic volume(it will activate mic) and music sound will be very very poor quality, after maybe 20 sec mic will be turned off and sound will be good again. I think its hardware issue, because a lot of peoples have the same issue on any versions of OS and devices. Also its some faint scratchy popping noise at random times when its in my ears with no music on… It needs to be fixed ASAP. Because its really bad… All my friends have the same with their AirPods and a lot users in the internet indicating the same issue.

This is like FOUR products in one. As someone who uses the phone A TON as a consultant, I had to revert to wired in the car because the Bluetooth headsets would go dead. AirPods are like TWO Bluetooth headsets for the price of one. That's two things. Now add the battery pack / storage container for 24 hours of charge. That's a THIRD item. Finally, when listening to a call or music with one AirPod and you hit a song you really like, just put in the other AirPod and voila, your FOURTH item - an instant set of wireless headphones that sound better than Apple'S regular ones and my old beats Bluetooth headphones.

Add the connection to the Apple Watch for a 5th value product.

I'm able to attach the case underneath the Watch band with a magnet that connects to the metal in back of the case. I can then have easy access when needed. It's a simple modification while leaving the Airpods case intact.

How useful it becomes for run workouts, driving or just a discreet place on the wrist, I'll soon find out.

Later, I will be attaching the pods separately without the case under the band when removing the pods from my ears. I will glue pod attachments under the Watch band for discrete placement. All DYI with glue and magnet.

Make that a 6th value add.

I have none of those issues and your breathless insistence that ALL YOUR FRIENDS have the same issues no reviewer picked up on (or me for that matter) is pretty strange. You sure you don't work for some Apple competitor?

Your account was created saturday and you have 2 posts on Macrumors.

Sorry, don't have this issue.

Nah it don't fall flat.
You posted something that was inaccurate.
There is no getting around that.
And right on cue just like a tool you move the goal post to price.
Your agenda is obvious, but your just a one man army with no one following.
Peace.
Cool story, bro. That's why my post has likes. I must be alllllll alllloooonnne. You're just mad because you didn't realize you'd have to replace two batteries. On a side note. Good tactic....insults....that always helps to prove your point.

There are no likes on the post I quoted.
If you are talking about some other post it's irrelevant to the topic I addressed, your lack of accuracy.

My biggest concern is the health consequences of wearing blue tooth headphones. I only have 1 brain. I suspect these will be an iconic product that may even turn into a wearable in its own right in time. But the health worries will dog these products. I'll let others experiment. I'll forgo the convenience and exercise the precautionary principle.

Should have been $70 - $90, i would have bought them.
Oh god here come the cheap skates. If you want to buy junky cheap gear look elsewhere. Apple doesn't want your business.

For those who actually have them, how are they with watching movies or youtube etc? Is there any lag in the sound?

And how are people managing with only being able to adjust the volume via Siri/iwatch/iphone/ipad ???

Thanks.

No lag (that I can detect anyway). I just watched something specifically looking for that. There might be one because it's bluetooth after all, but it's too small for me to notice.

There are some valid things to not like about these, but they are actually pretty cool. I'd think about giving them a try, but that price is just ridiculous. Maybe someday when the price drops.

Agreed. The $200-$300 for competitors truly wireless headphones with much worse features is obviously the way to go.

I've had these $29 wireless bluetooth headphones since January 2016 and they're flawless. Not sure why AirPods are $160.

I'm assuming you don't use ANY devices that require a battery? These batteries have a life cycle just like any other electronic device..... I don't get what you're trying to prove here......

So I have these a try today (wife had a test pair).

They do truly pair as nicely as Apple advertises. You basically just turn them on and go. This is nice for those technologically impaired. I have full confidence my mom could handle these on her own.

The feel exactly like ear pods in the ear. This may be good for some but I was hoping they'd be more reliable for the gym or at least running. I can't say I tried them running or working out but unless I'm somehow missing something they are going to come out of my ears once I sweat. I realize they're not marketed for sports at all, but this was the number one bullet point for me. Even more than audio.

And now to the audio. They sounded fine. I didn't test many tracks. A quick bit of jazz. Some pop. Rock. EDM. Not full tracks of anything. I wouldn't say they were immediately strictly better or worse than their wired brethren. I'm coming from a "gym necessity" of sound here. I listen to music via earbuds exactly never when not working out so I have no point of reference. I will say I felt jay birds are probably better in terms of sound (but they didn't stay in my ears very well either after much longer than 45 minutes).

They look as goofy as I felt they did in pictures. This is probably the most subjective point I've made. And I'm sure some will disagree. But they just look silly. I guess I get Apple wanted then to mirror a product they already had. To me the simple buds that slip in your ear look better. But I also understand the tech Apple had to cram in andmso perhaps my reservations are too high.

I'm going to pay attention to the products that come out to pair with this. I can imagine an earbud tip that fits in my ear making these much better to use while running. I realize they already make ear loops and ear lobe hooks. I currently love yurbuds ear tip design and would honestly grab these Airpods if they fit in my ears like those do. Of course any of this would more than likely interfere with the charging case so... may just be an overall inadequate design for my wants/needs.

1) Audio quality is just one metric that these AirPods should be measured on.

2) Do you honestly expect the sound quality to significantly increase in such a small package?

3) I'm pretty sure the price difference from traditional wired EarPods is for several reasons other than sound quality.

But thanks for the pathetic comment.

If you spend the difference on improving the sound quality you can for example get these: http://www.etymotic.com/consumer/earphones/hf5.html or several other ear buds and even some low end in ear monitors and have quite a large improvement. Your right that the price is not about sound quality. You are paying for convenience, I'm just not sure that they actually succeed at that goal.

"After waiting in line at 6:00 a.m. in the freezing cold in Palo Alto..." sorry, but the High in Minneapolis was 1º F yesterday - you don't get to talk about 'freezing cold' in Palo Alto!

As for the AirPods, the connection technology seems nice and a step up from standard bluetooth, and the charging case and charging speed are nice as well, but I have to agree with other commenters - but 5-6x the price for something with roughly the same audio quality as the stock ear buds that come with an iPhone is a nonstarter. I get that there's a premium for new/cutting edge technology, but $130 is more than most people will swallow.

Any word on how well the audio syncs with video as this is a known issue with bluetooth?

The reviewer showed how to select them on your device, but how does it work if you have two devices in proximity? If I had them connected to my iPhone and am now on my iPad, do I have to go back to my iPhone to disconnect them before using them on the iPad?

I love how people from the worst states always think "who has to deal with the lowest temperature" is some kind of contest that they want to win. I guess it gives the people in the fly-over states something to do while they're trapped inside their homes hiding away from the cold.

They succeed greatly in that area. No one bought these thinking "Gee, for 160$ I hope these sounds like B&W P7s!" They do exactly what they're advertised to do, and they do it well.
