This review sounded like he wanted to say how awesome the Pixel 3 is but is bounded by a contract to not do so lol

But really, I have to say as a long time Apple fan, the Pixel 3 is really much smarter of a smartphone than the iPhone. And it's more comfortable in the hand. Apple needs to forget about using "premium" materials that do nothing but make it more fragile and heavy, and get more utilitarian like Google.

This would be a mistake. The iPhone is not a utilitarian product. It is a premium one for the bourgeoisie. Leave the utitilitariam for the plebeians.

Imagine the embarrassment of being seen with a cheap phone like a Pixel! It is the ultimate social status killer. As bad as driving an economy American car.

I like Android, it's good. I'd use it if it came in a hardware like iPhone X/XS. Samsung s9 with it's infinity display is out of question and this Pixel 3 XL looks like a cheap knock off .

Seriously, what the **** is wrong with Google lol.

Yes, and when the majority of quality reviewers say the pixel is the best, that makes your opinion in the minority. But yes it's subjective based on who you want to win.
Nope, it's subjective based on your eye and how you prefer photos to look.

That is one ugly phone. But I'll say this - that is a defining trait in the Pixels, so bravo for Google for not rocking the boat. Even that first one was laughably ugly with that huge chin where the iPhone would have had a home button. It is like Google's designers love to phone in stuff. No pun intended.

Reminds me of old Microsoft and their second-rate copies of Apple's stuff. At least Samsung has found their own design language and it isn't terrible.

A notch AND a chin, it’s almost like they don’t know how to bend the OLED screen internally like Apple do so there is no need for the chin for the screen connector. The 3 has a massive chin and forehead. Like a skinny iPad, LOL.
It's not like they "don't know" it's because they can't for the simple fact that Apple patented their way to do it.

Apple has never done anything that is utilitarian...

How can this phone even be justified? It's the worst release of the year.
The giant notch does not even add additional sensors to improve horrible Face Unlock feature that was hacked into 2011 Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich."

How much more invasive is the Pixel XL’s notch? It may be taller, but it also looks narrower than the iPhone’s. That allows the Pixel XL to fit more system status icons.

As for height, I’m curious to see how much it intrudes on app headers such as the browser. It’s possible the iPhone’s UI offsets content the same distance from the top of the screen.

MacRumors, can you explore?

And I'm pretty sure anytime you know it's an apple product it always somehow looks better. If you were to do a blind review of pictures you would be surprised how mixed your picks would be.....when you don't know which one is "suppose" to be the best you get different results. It's ok to say that something else produced a good picture.....really it is.

Curious when you held the pixel 3 to make this assessment.

Sure but it'll still have the best camera too :/

This will be a failure. Some will buy it just for the selfie cam but you would have to be a real die-hard Google fan to not buy a Samsung phone instead.

Not sure if you're being serious or joking here.

iOS tracks for ads. You can limit tracking but saying it doesn't is downright false.

To characterize what Apple does vs what Google does is disingenuous at best. Apple itself only displays ads in the app store and news apps, and they do not provide your info to third parties in any way, shape or form. When you choose to limit ads, it limits targeted ads, so yes, you still see ads in those two places but not based on your 'interests' or other personal data.

Google basically has carte blanche to harvest whatever they want from your phone, including info about your contacts that they never opted in for, and to sell it to anyone that wants it.

To be pedantic, sure, iOS tracks for ads. To be specific, Google harvests your identity and spreads it like a virus to anyone that wants it.

People need to remember that Android is an advertising platform. Android is not a product, _you_ are the product. Your info is the commodity that is bought and sold.

So, have fun paying $800 for a phone that may or may not take better pictures than an iPhone, but certainly will sell you out at every turn.

I tend to agree, the biggest reason I would want this phone would be because of the camera but don't think I could take the rest of it and I don't like Samsungs curved screens....

One could deal with the notch. But the chin? Jeebus those are some homely phones.
