I get why they did the notch since it's the in thing to do but they managed to make it come down further into the display when really I think we'd all prefer it went away or was lessened.

But then on top of that they still include a chin at the bottom. Doesn't look very premium to me, looks cheap. I think if I was buying an Android phone I'd get that full screen one with the pop up camera.

Hilarious to see all the bashing of this phone. Of course if it were an Apple phone people would likely be praising it. It will definately have a better camera than the 10s and has a much better price point as well.

Nah Mii Mix 2 looks far better than any notch phone. Though the X has that balanced rounded corners all around.

I honestly cannot possibly see how anybody would want one of these over an iPhone X or XS. Google really messed up this one.

Aesthetically and functionally, there is simply no justification for that notch if it doesn’t have face recognition and an edge-to-edge display. Let’s couple that with the fact it’s still expensive as hell, chews through your personal data like Gregg Wallace at a buffet, has half the CPU performance, and has very poor support with excessive week+ repair times if something goes wrong.

Google are a massive company. If they made this at a competitive price point for marketshare, I can see the appeal. At this cost and what it offers, it doesn’t even blow other Android devices out of the water, let alone the phone it’s trying to mimick.
I honestly cannot see why anybody would chose the Pixel 3/XL over a Galaxy S9/+/Note. I am not a fan of android myself, because I believe it is solely a tool to suck personal data out of the phone to deliver to google. But I have trouble seeing why android fans would even want this detritus.

That pop-up camera seems like a good idea until it falls and the mechanism breaks. Cool idea, however impractical IRL.

I know. There’s really nothing redeemable about it.

Now if it was $500 (let’s face it, that’s pretty much how much Google will make from you using it over its lifespan), we’d call it a great deal. At nearly $1000 it’s an absolute joke.

This review sounded like he wanted to say how awesome the Pixel 3 is but is bounded by a contract to not do so lol

But really, I have to say as a long time Apple fan, the Pixel 3 is really much smarter of a smartphone than the iPhone. And it's more comfortable in the hand. Apple needs to forget about using "premium" materials that do nothing but make it more fragile and heavy, and get more utilitarian like Google.
Aren’t these phones glass like iPhone?

Google today announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL, which are designed to compete with Apple's new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

MacRumors was in attendance at Google's fall unveiling event and was able to get some hands-on time with the new devices, and we did a quick comparison to the iPhone XS Max.

The 5.5-inch Google Pixel 3, which has no notch, is similar in size to the 5.8-inch iPhone XS, while the 6.3-inch Pixel 3 XL is similar in size to the iPhone XS Max and takes some design cues from Apple's devices.

As we saw in leaked images and heard in rumors leading up to the Pixel 3 XL's debut, it has a deep notch on the front housing its front-facing camera system. The rest of the display isn't quite edge-to-edge due to a chin at the bottom that's missing from Apple's devices.

The Pixel 3 XL continues to use a single-lens 12-megapixel rear camera system, but Google has implemented an HDR+ mode that's similar to Apple's Smart HDR for combining multiple shots into one much better image. Dual 8-megapixel cameras are available on the front of the device, and Google touted a new group selfie feature with a wide-angle lens able to capture 184 percent more than the iPhone XS.

Inside, the new Pixel smartphones are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 4GB RAM, and up to 128GB of storage. The Pixel 3 offers a 2,915 mAh battery, while the XL model has a 3,430 mAh battery.

Google's Pixel 3 is priced at $799, while the Pixel 3 XL is priced at $899, making both devices more affordable than the iPhone XS and XS Max. The new devices are available for pre-order starting today ahead of an October 18 launch.

What do you think of the iPhone XS's latest competitor? Stay tuned to MacRumors because we'll have a more in-depth comparison video pitting the Google and Apple smartphones against one another next week.

How can this phone even be justified? It's the worst release of the year.

Apple has copied many UI elements from Android, for instance notification management. And if you think Apple doesn't limit camera sotware feature updates to new phones then you haven't been paying attention - there was no reason portrait mode needed to be limited to iPhone +/X models with two cameras - other phones accomplish it with a single camera, sometimes with even better results than Apple (Pixel 2 for example).

Google was able to save money by rushing these products to market and those saving got passed down to the consumer.

Savings? Hardly.

The Pixel 3XL is comparable to the less expensive iPhone XR but costs $150 more. Even the Pixel 3 with its old-school forehead and chin is $50 more expensive than the iPhone XR.

Nobody but a total fandroid will buy a Pixel 3...

First, you don’t own a $1,500 phone.

Second, the Pixel 3 camera is no better than the iPhone XS camera.
Thank god I dont own a $1,500 that has low signal and piss yellow screen.......

You mean the screen that DisplayMate has called the best smartphone screen ever?

I'm talking about a visible UI copy which you can see in Android P, from gestures to elements on the screen, to the way the UI interacts, if you deny this fact then you're clearly being defensive. Just look at their ads and name schemes "really black" that's a blatant copy from the iPhone 7 naming schemes that Apple chose to showcase their new blacks. The portrait mode being on a single camera is true, there's no need for a secondary camera to get the depth effect. Better results is highly subjective, you should know about the latest prank to Pixel users in which portrait shots taken with the iPhone XS fooled the Pixel users.

The biggest reason not to use anything by Google.

Wow, so much unnecessary hostility.

I think the back of the phone is so elegant. I don't mind the notch too much. If there's a sale on this phone, I might get it. I like my 8 Plus, but there are certain aspects I miss about Android. And I really don't want to spend $1,200+ on an iPhone.

Your $1500 can run a decent OS. Also will not lock you out if you post a comment on YouTube that Google doesn’t like. Finally it will not spy on you in order to deliver ads.

Exactly. Hahahah, ain't that the truth!

It seems as if no one else (except Apple) has any idea what good design is. Like zero idea.

I mean look at that hideousness.

Don't even get me started on how all other companies are fighting over Apple Notch™ like baboons and macaques, and can't for the love of god decide what it should look like.

I mean, are they morons or something?
Apple can’t exactly brag about their design philosophy. The notch is the result of a compromised design (they wanted to have Touch ID under the screen) and don’t get me started on their battery cases or the way you charge the Pencil or Magic Mouse 2.

I missed where they announced wanting TouchID under the screen. Do you have that quote or video?
