Pixel 3 awesome. Every feature he talked about though such as the call screeening all I think about is gooogle and my data

You don’t have to be biased to see that the new Pixel 3 XL is ugly.

Yeah, but you ARE biased when you suggest Apple's not as bad eventhough it has a notch too, LOL. Please... be sensible. The criticism Apple gets from me is deserved, and you're not making much of a case for yourself either.

How ridiculous. Hard to take these ratings seriously when every time a new flagship comes out it takes the top spot.
Isn’t that what’s supposed to happen...? Phones get better as time goes on? I’d be more worried if new phones were released and didn’t rate as well as older phones.

I’ve already told you I’m not a fan of the notch. It’s not my fault Google made their phone ugly.

Keep trying though. It’s cute.

You mean the screen that DisplayMate has called the best smartphone screen ever?

RE: signal issues on a tiny number of phones. iOS 12.0.1 was released today and fixes it...
The iPhone XS has more problems than just that. The animation stuttering being the most unacceptable.

"Apple can’t exactly brag about their design philosophy. The notch is the result of a compromised design (they wanted to have Touch ID under the screen) and don’t get me started on their battery cases or the way you charge the Pencil or Magic Mouse 2."

How do you know that's what Apple wanted?

Dieter Bohn at The Verge: ‘Oh, and the notch on the Pixel 3 XL is not as egregious in person as it is in photos. Is it big? Yes, but it’s also totally not a problem for me.”

This is a 100% incremental update yet I see very few tech media making a big deal out of it like they do with Apple. There’s no outrage over the Pixel Slate having huge bezels and no headphone jack. There absolutely is a double standard when it comes to Google first party hardware.

Honestly, who cares if there are double standards. It always happens to whomever is on top. Look no further than player comparison in sports between superstars. For example LeBron James is held at a different standard than James Harden. LeBron is scrutinized more because of his status as the current best. The fans are always expecting more even though the players are similar in capability. Fair or not, the scrutiny comes with the position.

It’s the same in phones. There’s not much outrage because it’s not as popular Apple products or popularly considered to be the best. Truthfully, I think the negative reviews of iPhones are balanced out with the positive reviews. Negative reviews tend to stand out more especially when it doesn’t align with personal preferences and biases.

I like iPhones myself over androids currently but couldn’t care less for most reviews as it I know it’s all subjective and swayed by personal preferences.

Edit - fixed errors in quoting.

Seems like iPhone Xs best screen just got dethroned. Can't wait for Samsung to take the crown in March, then Apple, then Google, etc.

I find it funny when people talk about Apple display quality. Apple doesn't make displays. Apple *BUYS* them from somebody; and somebody else can get a similar display if they are willing to pay for it. They may build a display to specific apple specifications, but those specifications can be used by someone else.

The cringe from some of you Apple fanboys is really something to behold.

It has a notch just like our beloved XS/XS Max. Regardless of its shape it’s still there and it’s still as hideous on both phones and all phones that have one.

If I could I’d have both my XS and the Pixel 3 XL, both are great devices and we should all be happy that technology is evolving at such a fast pace that we’ve got powerhouses in the palm of our hands.

The chin is there because of the front facing speakers. What do you want, TWO notches? o_0

;)

I've never really had a problem with notches. I see it as gaining extra screen which would otherwise be part of the bezel, rather than 'losing' screen real-estate with a notch protruding into it.

I specifically bought the Essential phone because of the screen form-factor.

It's kind of annoying that my $1500 phone has a worse camera than a $800 phone.
Err no, the difference minor at best

The difference in top flagship are hardly much difference at all

Yes, and when the majority of quality reviewers say the pixel is the best, that makes your opinion in the minority. But yes it's subjective based on who you want to win.
Go see Jon Morrison video about camera pictures

People praised a picture thinking it was a pixel when it was an iPhone

People base opinions on brands sometimes

You know people were thinking it was the Pixel 2 not the Pixel 3......... Kinda sad that a $1500.00 is on par with a phone that came out last yr...........

Who cares, point is the same. People base opinions due to liking a brand and hating another like apple

Pixel 3 camera may be better than pixel 2 but the difference won’t be much more then likely

People shouldn’t be buying phones for purely the camera anyway.

I am with you on the notches. You would have to lose screen space without or extend the height of the phone. Not only that, but without the notch, you’re going to lose the screen space to the signal bars and time. Google may have extended the notch a little too far down where it impacts more of the usable screen space, but overall the phone design you like best is subjective.

I have an iPhone 7+ I'm looking forward to upgrading, probably to the Max. I wasn't a big fan of the notch design when I first saw it, but I get that it's necessary for Face ID.

But -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- Google's not using Face ID or anything like it.

So it's a big honking phone with a large notch that includes a second front-facing camera for wider selfies? Because I guess what everyone wanted from their own selfies was a wider viewing angle? I say "their own" because let's be honest none of us really want other people's selfies.

And then a chin because front-facing speaker now? Like the only thing more obnoxious than selfies isn't people who don't keep their phones on silent?

It’s amazing how low the bar is for Google. The media is giving it high marks for the most part. If Apple launched this, they’d have been crucified.

I think I agree. Is this better than the XR? I guess it's around the same price.

Android is just an ugly, ugly OS. It's looks horrible but has more customisation than IOS.
Android phones in general are just ugly as well. Are Samsung and Google trying their hardest to make the ugliest phone this year? I think Samsung win hands down though. That is one hideous phone the S9.

Apple camera still is subjectively the best in daytime outdoor photos, but still isn't the best for low light photos. It seems much better now than in the past though.

Apart from that and the smart assistant that transcribes calls (Pretty neat idea, yet I bet it's just another way for Google to get info from your telephone calls), I see nothing on this phone that would make you want to use one. As others have said, the notch on this thing is horrible.

Can't wait until notches are a thing of the past.

It seems as if no one else (except Apple) has any idea what good design is. Like zero idea.

I mean look at that hideousness.

Don't even get me started on how all other companies are fighting over Apple Notch™ like baboons and macaques, and can't for the love of god decide what it should look like.

I mean, are they morons or something?
At least the Chinese OEM’s are trying (teardrop design, Oppo find X, Xiaomi Mi mix, etc). But obviously Google doesn’t care. They have generated enough hardcore following for their Pixel brand.

Seems like a lot of comments from people who have probably never seen a Pixel, never mind, owned one. I have an iPhone XS, I came from a Pixel 2, a Pixel before that and Nexus before them. They are very polished and a very smooth OS. Funny how a chin is now completely frowned upon, iPhones always had the biggest but little was said.

By the way, I like my iPhone XS, it's fabulous, what will be my next phone in a couple of years? Any one of the flagship devices from Apple/Samsung/Google, I don't know which one yet, but it is nice to be prejudice free.

Let me stop you right there. "They are very polished and a smooth OS" is a joke. I owned a samsung galaxy nexus, nexus 4, nexus 5 and nexus 6. Each one i've used for a year and had multiple issues. Nexus 5 was known for its crappy camera and unreliable battery life. Nexus 4 had a horrible camera and would heat up for no reason and the back would magically crack. Each version of android on these phones had numerous issues. I had my friends look at me when my PHONE APP crashed. I couldnt explain it. My nexus 5 was the worst phone I've ever owned.

Obviously things have changed but dont begin to say Android is polished. There's a lot they could be doing better but since they want the market, they are lax with developer rules, changing things, etc. Also play protect is a joke.

I still own android devices and they are way more unreliable than my iOS devices. My nvidia shield running Android 9 crashes more than my iOS 12 devices

Just finished watching the intro. The updates to the camera look seriously good (saying that as a iPhone daily driver). The low light capability of the 2 was truly industry leading, but it looks like they really stepped it up with the 3 saying you'll never need a flash anymore at night. There's a bunch more (useful or impressive updates), but it looks like big steps over the 2.

Its so odd to have Apple (probably) being behind on the camera a 2nd year in a row when they've been so far ahead of everyone else for so long. That said the Xs/Xr's camera performance looks to be a big step up from last years, so I'm looking forward to that when the Xr lands. Over in Android world though - it looks like the Pixel will be crushing it above all comers there for another year. Just my impression from watching the Pixel part of the Google introductions.

Another company made a phone you say! Crazy! Well I hope the people who bought it like it and are satisfied with their purchase.
