Try it yourself and see. A swipe involves a quick gentle movement and then the hand is just under the keypad. In fact even with short fingers you can pretty much keep your hand where it is and let your fingers do the walking.

With the current set up. The user has to physically press down the home button at the very bottom of the screen then raise your hand, move it up to the middle of the screen to enter the code.

The latter involves more movement.
I now understand what you meant.
But I think this is made primary for touch ID devices, indeed :D

The same way they could before. You could always see and reply to messages right from the lock screen, unless you turned this off. This is just a different look and more functionality. All good.

Making me swipe left to control music playback is terrible.

If the control panel slide-up remembers which page you were on, then it's not so bad. It's basically the same as today, only with larger controls.

iPhone still unlocks if you click the home button once to wake up the display. The same exact problem still exists. I don't know why people think this is fixed.

I'm thinking those comments are about the "raise to unlock" feature (or whatever it's called). It will make a big difference in terms of getting the lock screen to come on: you no longer have to push a button. And since the home button really has been the more convenient one (at least for me) to push, this will mean fewer times when I turn on my screen just long enough to see a notification but have it go away because of Touch ID's quickness.

Yup. But that what the point of my comment -- that Apple should leave opening method (swipe) of non-Touch ID devices as-is and reserve the new method to Touch ID devices.

I think Apple keeps it off the initial lock screen in order to keep things looking clean; I kind of like it. The weather is just a swipe away. Kind of interesting, they used to have the weather on the Galaxy S6 on the lock screen, but when I upgraded to Marshmallow it was removed. There is something to be said about simplicity, but I do get why one would want to see the weather directly.

I think it was removed on Marshmallow b/c Marshmallow no longer allows for widgets on the lockscreen.

They should at least make the player controls first when playing music. It's dumb the way it is right now.

For everyone with security concerns about interacting with notifications on the lock screen, I'm sure you can disable it.
Yes, you can disable everything from the lock screen. You've been able to ever since iOS 1. You can make it so notifications don't show or the text just says "message"

This is nothing new.

Haha. Makes short cuts to camera impossible to use.

My work around for this was to use the side of my finger or nail so the screen would come on but would not activate Touch ID, its rather simple thing to do. We all know how to use our hands and fingers right? I don't know why this is so hard for people to achieve.

I do like the raise to view, as it does save me having to do the above workaround.

However what I do not like is that the screen illuminates fully. Maybe this can be altered by the user?

I don't think that is necessary but I guess technically they had no choice because Apple had to make their more garish boxes look less ugly, thus needed something for the transparency fill which logically has to be your lock screen image. Consequences of one decision leading to another bad forced choice. I might wrong but that is all that explains it.

I really like the discreet nature of an alerts right now being giving full opacity and the background reduced in illumination. It makes for clean, clear and simple alerts. You eye is not dealing with superfluous padding and framing and sudden increased blast of light from the screen.

From my time on android there was always too much going on with alerts. They can drive you nuts.

Wait, so do you HAVE to have a passcode or TouchID set??

Nope, you can simply push the home button to unlock the phone.

Pressing the home button has replaced sliding as the means to unlock the phone.

I dont use a passcode on my iphone. how do you slide to unlock now?

Simply press the home button.

I just updated my phone to iOS 10. When you lie the phone facedown and pick it up it's supposed to show you your lock screen. Mine does not. Anything I might be doing wrong? Thanks!

What iPhone do you have? Only iPhone's with the M9 processor (6s, 6s+, SE) have the raise to wake feature.

I escape from most of this because i still have a 6 :D

I do like convenience, but swiping on control center for more stuff , is Not convenient. I guess u gotta outweigh the odd's... Although I would have liked the "high intensity" on flashlight..... kill your battery in 2 hours..

Wow. Now you need to press the home button, then enter password if you don't have Touch ID. Before both actions were done on the screen. Now you physically need to press a button.

And Slide to unlock was a signature feature of the iPhone. Now it's gone.

Yep...,..now when u see the lock screen u just stare at it hoping to unlock it. Apple's assuming we all know what to do.

It's a new iOS version, let's change things that didn't need change.

So just to get this straight – if Slide to Unlock is gone and I have no password set, will I just have to press the Home button to unlock my phone?

I turned TouchID off because half of the time it wouldn't register my fingerprint and made me enter my password.

I've been axing for these features since iOS 5. Apple is a bit late but I'm glad they are taking a step in the right direction. Widgets would look better if they remove the headers.

On one hand I think the change to the lock screen is cool. On the other, what ever happened to using the sleep/wake/power button to look at your notifications?

Why is everyone so concerned about "Slide to unlock". You just press the home button. Very simple, its a button you have always pressed. It's not like they moved the home button to the top farthest point on the phone. No, you just press home, have a pass code? Press home type in code. I don't know how anyone is actually worried about the least important feature probably on the whole update.

Don't forget to use an ax (or an axe). ;)

I am not worried about it. I just find it funny folks act like the home button was the only button one could use to turn the screen on.

Looks great so far.

Everyone be sure to voice your concerns with Apple directly during the beta period. Letting them know now gives us a better chance for them to modify it before this all goes live.

Do you know how we are able to voice our concerns to Apple? Thanks
[doublepost=1466208065][/doublepost]Why would they remove widgets from the notification centre, it was so easy to access when using other apps, I could just pull it down to use a widget quickly. Putting them in their own special place on the home screen where I have to exit an app to see them just negates the purpose of having easy to access widgets, I might as well just go to the app I want to use. Also I hope their is finally an option to disable the camera on the lock screen, it has always been so annoying that anyone can just pickup your phone and take photos without any authorisation needed from the phone.

They are still accessible as usual from the notification center while you are in an app. If you are on the home screen (locked or unlocked) then they are accessible by swiping left.

I'm glad that is still possible, but then it seems quite stupid that they would remove that continuity by only having it available in the notification centre while using apps...
