I think Apple keeps it off the initial lock screen in order to keep things looking clean; I kind of like it. The weather is just a swipe away. Kind of interesting, they used to have the weather on the Galaxy S6 on the lock screen, but when I upgraded to Marshmallow it was removed. There is something to be said about simplicity, but I do get why one would want to see the weather directly.

I still don't get everyones fascination with weather and weather apps. Seriously what are you checking? That it's telling you there's no clouds or that it's cold. You can see that already by looking out a window. I'm sure some will say it's needed but i just don't get it's use and especially not on the home screen.

THANKYOU! How many steps to go through just to pause music....
Yep, apple must be mad!

However I think what will happen is apple will make the player controls appear if you are playing music instead of control centre. It's the perfect solution and i hope it'll be there.

Not sure if this has been answered, what if you don't want a lock screen? This is going to be really annoying when using my iPad, which I keep at home and like not having a lockscreen on. I know some people still don't use a lockscreen for their phones.

Wow, I can't believe it!

How could Apple make something SOOOOO ugly?

I mean, it's completely hideous. A bad-looking copy of other phones and apps.

How could they do this? Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave.

I am very worried about security with the new unlocking system.

How so? The only thing that has changed is slide to unlock. Sliding to unlock doesn't equal more security.

That says nothing.... And is meaningless in this discussion.

Let me break down logically.... In iOS 9 can you use 3D Touch to reply to a message without unlocking your iPhone. In iOS 10 can you reply to a message without unlocking your phone ?

Can you understand the issue here?

As some of us are not running iOS 10 beta, how about showing us where the options are to turn this off .
Yes, it basically says a lot as you can do most of the same kinds of things now and have controls over them, just as is the case in iOS 10.

There won't be a dark mode in iOS. Dark modes don't work... just look at Android and Windows Phone to see how that failed.

Look at the Apple watch app. It may come .... someday. Not holding my breathe.

I can see this needing a lot of further refinement and maybe back tacking in the future.

Definitely.

Looks good, except the player controls being on the separate screen. At least they should double the basic controls on the main panel or make iPhone remember between wake ups which panel was selected last.
There's no reason why the Night Shift button should be so big.

See Omega Mac's comment. I have a feeling it will get refined quite a bit. I'm sure that the night shift button ill get changed during the beta process.

Apple please please give us the option to disable animations, very tired of the fad in/out of home screen, makes the iPhone/iPad seem SO SLOW........

What model iPad are you using?

i work a good ways from home and check the weather for my commute. and lots of people dont have windows where they work :( also, here in texas, it can be sunny out the window, with a wall of storms coming from the other direction.

This guy does the best videos.
His voice is clear and the tone is nice.
He also speaks slow enough that you can follow along and both see what he is doing, as well as absorb what he is talking about.
I HATE when they go so fast that you can't even see what they are doing.

Well now it's easier, just swipe over to see the weather widget. No need to unlock.

No slide to unlock feature is a bad idea for the older folks, my father who has no personal info on his phone expect phone numbers doesn't want his phone locked. Not to mention he has a 5c, no touch ID, even in the future, he works with his hands, dirty, greasy, cuts and scraps. For all the older folks that put the glass to their lips to voice a text, this will single them out.

Sliding up then over one screen for audio controls looks exhausting. Just pushing their "brilliant" night shift option on us even more...
I feel for your dad but really, that's what keeps old people old and get older.
They don't want to learn new things.
Show your dad all the wonderful things his phone can do and help him exercise his brain.
just sayin'
It's nice that you are thinking of him though.

Here's an idea:

Why not retain the Slide to unlock feature? When the Home button is used to wake up the phone, instead of directly going to the Home Screen, iPhone would just validate the fingerprint and still require the user to slide to unlock. Camera will accessed by the previous slide up.

For the widgets, a swipe from the right when locked will access the widget screen. While on the home screen, the new location will be used (leftmost homescreen, and tbh, this is the annoying part of this suggestion)

I honestly don't understand why they put Night Shift in the Control Center. I mean it's not a future you use frequently and need it as quick as possible like the flashlight. Just a waste of space. On the 4 inch iPhone it's ugly as hell with these little icons through Nightshift whereas on iOS 8 it was fine.

So does this mean someone can reply to your messages, interact with notifications, etc, without unlocking the phone?
Yes. But that has been the same for a few years now. You can choose what can be accessed with settings. Not sure what the fuss is about.

I think it's dumb that "Raise to Wake" is exclusive to M9 devices. What about the M9 makes it a requirement over the M7 or M8?

I think it may be the same technology that allows for hey Siri without a dramatic loss in battery life.

this may have defeated the purpose of security or privacy. Not completely but a little of it.

iPhone still unlocks if you click the home button once to wake up the display. The same exact problem still exists. I don't know why people think this is fixed.

Well, before the iPhone 6s was released many people were accustomed to pressing the home button to wake the phone and glance at the notifications/launch the camera. The first gen sensor wasn't fast enough to detect the fingerprint before the finger left the sensor, so people didn't see the problem until recently. I have been using an unauthorized finger/my nails as a rather clumsy workaround. This is a welcome change indeed.

How? The current OS allows you to interact with notifications in the lock screen.
[doublepost=1466005583][/doublepost]
Just like iOS 9, you can choose what to allow on the lock screen.

This. Dunno why people think this is new. Apple just made the notifications bigger. They always have us the ability to totally disable notifications on the lock screen

Theres too many security holes in the new lock screen...
  • Replying with messages
  • Calendar access
  • Mail access
That can cause serious issues, especially with business-related stuff.

Just like iOS 9, you can choose what to allow on the lock screen.
