I’m starting to really dig the 5.4” version. Hopefully there isn’t much compromise feature-wise.

It will be a XR or 11 kind of compromise, which is not much of a compromise at all. Even less with the OLED display, smaller XS/11 Pro-like bezels and smaller notch, as per leaks.

I would have chosen the XR or 11 if it wasn't for the size.

These mocks are always spot on but they’re always missing a finishing detail that makes them look like garbage until Apple reveals the actual product. Last year it was the fogged glass. Can’t wait to see what this year’s mocks are missing.

Funny that the Apple logo on the dummy units aren’t even straight. Tilted slightly.

While I don't believe there is a huge demand for small phones, I think there is a strong demand. Some people find a large phone unwieldy to use and others prefer a small phone for portability purposes.

I know the 5.7" isn't as small as the iPhone 5/5S/5c/old SE was, but hopefully it will fit the bill for many of those users who has been holding out in hopes of an update to their favorite.

I’m that one. It’s looking mighty close for sure. Still need to hammer that camera wart back in, or rub some Prep H on it, or St Johns Wart maybe.

That’s a huge let down on the 5.4” phone not being considered a “Pro” model. Apple should really consider giving the 5.4” form factor all the same features as the Pro models and give it the same price and see if people actually prefer those huge phones. I for one, will always go for the smaller version of any phone as long as it has the same features otherwise! I can’t stand the trend to larger and larger /phones!/

We got our hands on a set of dummy models that represent the iPhone 12 lineup, giving us our first close look at the iPhone 4-style design and the different size options.
I’d love to know where you got them and roughly how much they were. My usual practice is to hang out in an Apple store for a while, after launch, going back and forth between the different sizes, holding / manipulating them to figure out which sizes I can work with. In the foreseeable future, hanging out in an Apple store is much less appealing. If I could obtain some of these (well, the smaller two, anyway), it’d be worth a bit of money to figure out what size works for me (even given that they’re dummy units, and the camera layout is likely incorrect).

Dan, Macrumours,

See - great production values give you phones that aren't covered in scratches and also offer cameras on tripods with studio lighting!

You put my wonky pics to shame :p

Cheers!

If the 5.4 inch came with a triple lens setup I’d be sold on that model.

Not sure if I should move up in size for triple lens or down in size to get more comfort and a far better price. 🤔

Funny that after all the hope for a small phone with the SE 2... a proper small one arrives a few months later in the 12. :)

Flat edges were probably smart move as it allows Apple to maximize screen arae and make 5.4" phone not much bigger then SE/5s but still pack it with relatively big screen.

Can someone/macrumors compare real screen areas of phones?

Same 6.7" is not much bigger while holding bigger screen. And last Apple has line of phones that differentiate from each other more then before.

It will be strongest line to date not counting what Apple plans to do with 5G if anything special.

And imagine how popular 5.4" will become in few years on second hand market when it will reach 200-300 USD price.

I have found Forbes article with sizes and used it for my own comparison.

5.4" iPhone 12 has 140-150% of screen area of original SE.

Probably.

But I don’t rule out the possibility of some new feature that, while we don’t have or even know we want but then feel like we can’t live without, could make its way to the higher end models. Or it could just be a desirable feature we’ve been clamoring for like the return of Touch ID.

Obligatory: First world problem at its best 😁
