Way better than m hair boomers.
World's girls and 30s and under will run for cute flip like fashion trend.
The others should drop nationalism rather than stuck in old garbages.
I only use SE. iphones except SE are all wrong coz heavy bumpy bricks.

seems like everyone throwing shade right now.....will be the ones extolling the usefulness of foldables when it has an Apple logo on it. Just saying..... We have seen this before many times.
I agree. The Samsung Note Series was laughed at for its huge screen… Until everyone else followed suit.

They are a solution to the problem of having to switch between a smartphone and a mini tablet all the time and the problem of not being able to fit both an iPhone and iPad Mini (or insert equivalents here) in pants/shorts front pockets, which is why I bought the Z Fold 3, sold my iPhone 12 Pro Max and gave my iPad Mini to my wife. It isn't rocket science.
What you just described isn't a problem that the vast majority of people are having.

Apple isn't going to cannibalize their own product lines by combining two items into one to satisfy a small subset of people who absolutely need to have an iPad mini on them at all times.

Foldable phones are a solution in search of a problem, and IF Apple ever does come out with one, and I don't believe they will, it's not going to be anything like the ones on the market now, because they're unimaginative garbage.

Oh I see, you speak for the "vast majority of people", got it. You're right, there are very few people out there who own a mini tablet and a smartphone and use both often. I'm sure they'd just rather have to lug two devices around all the time though, makes sense. 🙄

Still annoys me that I have to choose between the OS I like (and having group chats with my family) or a phone that is actually useful for more than basic tasks like messaging. Get a move on Apple and release your foldable so I don't have to choose.
Yeah, it’s a struggle. That’s why I went the iPad route (cellular) to keep my existing iMessage threads.

See: iPod Touch.

Albeit, it took them long to realize the iPod touch isn’t needed when they had the iPhone and other devices to replace it. But Apple will follow any trends that deem worthy and customers are choosing foldables because of the new form factor.

Yes, I am right. What you're describing amounts to a non issue.

Yeah, I got an iPad Mini as well but I can't be bothered to carry it with me all the time since I can't just put it in my pocket.

My pants seem to think it is an issue whenever I try to fit an iPad in them.

And that's exactly why Apple isn't going to get into the foldable phone game.
Based on what exactly? You are aware foldable are trending upwards... not down.

Per Samsung:
Last year, we saw almost 10 million foldable smartphones shipped worldwide. That’s an industry increase of more than 300% from 2020, and I predict this fast-paced growth will continue. We are reaching the moment where these foldable devices are becoming widespread and staking a bigger claim in the overall smartphone market.

Yeah, I got an iPad Mini as well but I can't be bothered to carry it with me all the time since I can't just put it in my pocket.
I carry a backpack with me... so, I'm accustomed to this whole setup.

Yeah I like to go lightweight, no bag just smart watch, keys and phone only, even trying to eliminate keys with smart locks at home so I'd just have the watch and phone with me.

For the first time, I am hopping on the foldable bandwagon with Z Flip 4 which is already preordered due to the specials they had going today (saved $1100 with trade in and two of there additional discounts and received a $100 promo discount for accessories!).

Some other phone companies should learn how to really give customers more of what they want. I chose the Z flip 4 due to durability/design/features.

The larger Fold 4 is still not durable enough for me and still seems that it will be in danger with my use cases. I will wait for Samsung to get this device right. For the most part they did get the Z flip 4 right and I dont have to worry much about it being damaged unlike the Z Fold 4 and I need at least 2 good years off of my first foldable phone but the time has come; most phones are boring.

I will compare it to my brick-like iPhone 13 Pro max when it comes in but I always keep one flagship android phone and one flagship Apple iPhone.

I totally disagree with the cannibalizing argument. I get that in regards to ipads / macs. But, in this case if someone were to replace their iphone / ipad mini with one Apple foldable, Apple would sell at a profit amount enough to cover both devices sold individually. IMO

If Apple is going to avoid cannibalization by not releasing the product people want, Samsung will cannibalize them (Apple).

Samsungs doing all the R&D and heavy lifting. In a few years when Apple releases their own folding phone, they'll take all credit and Macrumors will actually give them all the credit.

Happens all the time.

True. But Samsung won't care because Apple will be using Samsung's screens.

Samsung doesn't really want to sell smartphones. They want to sell smartphone components. They are more than happy to let Apple take all the credit as long as they can sell Apple the components that go into the Apple's phones.

Clearly Apple isn't worried about this.

Fads come and go. Apple's never been the type to blindly jump on any of them.

That hinge won’t last five minutes. Terrible design and an extortionate price.

Yeah, because Samsung is a bunch of college kids putting together a school project in their dad's garage.. Do you even have a clue how much r&d and testing goes into products like these?

My question is: will a screen shot show that fold? I assume not.
Is this a serious question?

I'm not sure what some of you people are talking about. Most all of the negative comments made here was made about countless tech that is now de rigor. You would have to be 10 years old not to see this. I don't know if folding phones will become a big thing. They definitely, in my opinion will be at least a niche thing. The landscape is littered with mistakes by big tech, Apple Newton, Note 7, Mobile Me, IPhone 4 antenna issues ( which I had big time), etc. My God, some of you talk as if you will tied up and forced to use this stuff. It's another choice, simple as that. If you don't see the use case for you NOW, don't buy it, and wait to see what happens. Your life will not be negatively impacted.

It’d a designe that will find uses, the only concern is that you are introducing a point of failure. Additionally all the display phones you see in the shops have these foldable phones locked in a bracket so you can’t play with them, now that is a bit of a worry.
