Nope. A portable tablet, essentially what these phones will be, will become the norm in the next 2-3 years.

for every OMG tech innovation there are the ones like 3DTVs. Good on paper and lauded as the “next big thing” but real life gave a different story.

I will say this, 3D on my LG 65E6 OLED tv made in 2016 is the best 3D I have ever experienced. If you never seen 3D on the 2016 LG OLED tv's, you don't know what you are missing. By far, better than any tv in the past. Too bad LG abandoned it.

3DTV's were never going to work. No one was gonna wear glasses at home. These folding phones will absolutely work. I can't guarantee that of course but I'm extremely confident of the fact.

You might not want it now. I might not want it now. But the technology behind it is coming to a smartphone near you soon that will be much thinner, much mire pliable, and useful. At the very least give Samsung kudos for putting it out there.

I respect Samsung for trying something new... But this phone is ergonomically awkward, it might get better in the future though... One thing as well is, i'd rather have it being a tablet that folds for portability reasons, instead of a phone that converts to tablet, because that tiny display on the outside is so freaking terrible...

Even WHEN these are cheaply available, I still can’t see folks wanting these over a regular non folding phone.

I love that they're trying new form factors but personally, at least from Apple, all I want is an iPhone 5s form factor and chassis but with the same camera and display as the 11. That's my dream. Probably won't ever happen.

I'd poke fun at them for a video with care instructions, but Apple made a support document with care instructions for a credit card, so...
There are a few minor differences between Apple’s credit card and the Samsung Galaxy Fold:

1) The Apple Card doesn’t cost $2k when you sign up, although you will have to pay $2k if you buy a Galaxy Fold using your Apple Card,

2) The Apple Card doesn’t stop working if you fail to follow Apple’s care instructions, and

3) If you do scuff your or stain your Apple Card by treating it badly, Apple will send you a new Apple Card for free - forever.

Just imagine if Apple released something with this susceptibility to breaking and with all these care instructions. Anti-Apple folks would be ripping it apart and calling it overpriced Apple garbage. It would end up as a lead story on CNN...
Of course, if it had an Apple logo on it then it'd be a whole different story.

good thing Apple would never release something like this until they sorted out the durability issues

When the general public gets its hands on this it’s going to be a bloodbath. With all the “instructions” on how to treat the Fold it will give new meaning to the phrase, “You’re holding it wrong.” Fold-gate here we come... at least for the dozen or so people who actually buy it that is.

I personally wouldn’t buy it and seems like a headache to use. But at least they’re pushing the envelope technology wise, even if the execution isn’t ideal.

The form factor/screen size of the Galaxy Fold in its closed position just seems awkward to me.

3D is garbage.

It's not a bad rendering of a good idea. It's a terrible idea. It's just a technical trick, that theoretically, as they were developing foldable OLED screen, that they said, "Hey, we could build a foldable phone." But not really. Just look at that hinge. Think of folding and unfolding it hundreds of times. They admit they're going to break down. Of course they are. This was the PR department's fantasy of an engineer saying, "Hey! We could build foldable stuff! Really science-fiction!" Well, you can, but why? A thick phone for my pocket? Or a little iPad with a big wrinkle that's in the middle of the screen? It's possible they'll get truly able to do it, but let me remind you, it costs over $2,000. People are screaming about the rising prices of smartphones. I think you get a great camera and FaceID, the most advanced processor, and Jony Ive styling up to now. $999. Or down to $445 if you don't mind TouchID. And they'll take your trade-in and give you a year of free Arcade. Samsung launching this is a sign that some stupid executive is making decisions at Samsung.

Absolutely agree 100%

LG's last 3D OLED sets are astonishingly good. I don't ever want to have to change mine for a newer model because I know I'll lose 3D. 3D with the right display playing the right content is absolutely fabulous. The problem that 3D had was that people were watching bad content on bad TVs, and very often in a bad setting (store). LG's OLEDs finally mastered everything to perfection, and then they dumped it because consumers had already given up. Criminal.

Long live LG 3D OLED!

Yeah, I agree with that.
Apple would have lost its reputation as a far-sighted developer.
And shareholders would have to be worried......
I'm glad this crap has no Apple logo on it.

So, I'm confused. Foldable phone has two screens? One for the folded state and one for the unfolded state? Isn't that just cramming 2 devices into one? What is being "saved" here? Why doesn't Samsung forget the phone concept and just making a foldable tablet and call it the most portable tablet?
