I am never surprised by the amount of selective amnesia that is prevalent in many postings and how convenient it is to forget that an equivalent spec'd out Iphone 11 Pro max is just ~$100 less and that's before we ignore the extra cameras, real estate and complexity of design on the Fold

The Fold is 9.73 oz | 276 g to Iphone 11 Pro max 7.97 oz | 226 g that is just 20 g difference to the Note 10+ 6.91 oz | 196 g delta to the Iphone or 25 g less for the Ipad mini at 10.6 oz | 300.5 g. I don't see any weight lifting classes at the genius bar for new Iphone 11 owners LOL

Sure we can wince at a $2k price and the majority do at any phone over a few $100's yet many still pay $1800 for a fully equipped Iphone. For those that consider a 2K price is in the range of annual disposable items like shoes, handbags etc and like differentiation by price perhaps they consider the Fold a steal. In terms of hardware in the box compared to Apple pricing it is.

I agree there is some concerns of screen durability even in the short term bu outside this I am glad that other OEM continue to pursue multi use/function devices else whole product groups would not exist if Apple model was always followed.

I would have no issue with the $2k price if this product was ready for market. But to pay $2k to do the testing Samsung haven’t seems insane. This isn’t an issue like antennagate where apple overlooked something that they shouldn’t, this is knowingly sending a product out the door in a R&D state. If that wasn’t the case they wouldn’t have had to postpone release for 6 months.

Apple will come out with something similar in 5 years, pretend they invented (like they're doing now with the always on display on the watch) it and the people criticizing Samsung for this will love it. At least then it'll be Apple. Makes all the difference.

By the way in that video above to be able to just slide the camera over text and Google translates it....now that is BAD Ath...

Uh, the most expensive iPhone Pro Max is $1,450, or $530 less than the Fold. Where are you coming up with this $100 nonsense?

You could get the most expensive iPhone Pro Max and a new iPad Air for the same price as the Fold. Then you’d have a vastly superior phone and vastly superior tablet, instead of a lousy phone/tablet combo.
Try looking whats in the box then come back to me when Apple include a case or wireless charging Airpods or a warranty that includes extra features like screen replacement for $149

Sticker price of a bare phone is not comparable  while Apple do not make it compulsory its clear from their profit results many do buy their accessories to make their Iphones complete.

Adding an Air in to the equation will just make it worse :D and typifies the money grab of separate component/device only solution from Apple

Given that the Fold phone basics is identical to the other Samsung Flagship phones ie S10's and Note 10's your vastly superior remark is just drivel even from the most ardent Apple supporter

I don’t think Apple will make one, or at least not soon. Honestly, it seems gimmicky. Maybe one day when the tech is so advanced and the phone is thin like cardboard.

If they do it I think they would do it where it makes more sense - say a tablet that can open all the way to a bigger tablet, or part way, like a laptop, so you have a virtual keyboard on one side of the fold and the display on the other side of the fold.

I do not disagree that its questionable with such frailty of the screen but then there are many high end goods that are equally frail, we are just not use to it with our phones especially at this price :)

1. The front screen is absolutely hideous. That bezel is a deal breaker.

2. I have high hopes that future food phones do NOT turn into tablets. I’d prefer to see an iPhone with a vertical fold. Meaning, a current sized iPhone folds to the size of a closed moto Razr.

Samsung only throws those in because they realized how crappy their screen is so they’re trying to soften the blow. The service/warranty was not included the first time they released this junk.

No, it’s not the same as an S10/Note 10. The front screen on the Fold is junk. It’s not only small, but it’s an odd aspect ratio (tall and skinny) making it useless to use as a “phone” (Apps don’t look right, everything is cramped horizontally and you can’t even type in portrait mode because the keyboard is so small). The S10/Note 10 are vastly superior to the Fold as a phone.

There’s no point discussing the Fold as a tablet because Android is a non-starter for tablets. Even Google doesn’t care about them anymore.

Pretty sure this is the future even though I don't like it. Hated flip phones back in the day, always used a candy bar, but clearly I was in a minority.

Apple's folding phone will happen in 2023.

Ohh dear here we go  let me help you

The fold was never released before and even then with the review models it was always hinted of some special service plan

There are many user scenarios for the front screen some will just like using it as an AOD and notification area on a screen that the was the ~size of an Iphone just a few gens back

Most Samsung owners have always enjoyed generous trade ins and bundled goodies the Fold is no exception here. Simple comparisons to sticker price conveniently hides the true cost of ownership when it comes to phones even when accounting for less depreciation which is more country specific (eg US).

Same goes for Apples excellent service and stores to hand is very much country specific and most can only dream of the convenience the US owners have, yet pay the same price for no return.

Many have done the tablet thing and moved on as there is only so many beer mats you need on the coffee table :D The Fold may well fill the need for many to replace the limited functions on a mobile OS tablet or Kindle type device let alone it's multi platform support with DEX where the word continuity has no context LOL

But you keep bashing away I'm sure you can find some more incorrect trivia

I get it you don't like it and that's fine as too is many others that have noted their dislike or concerns :)

I own both Galaxy Fold (unlocked silver) and iPhone 11 Pro; without any bias I can say that Galaxy Fold is a very well-built amazing phone, and kind of remind me the feeling of when I bought the first generation iPhone! I think Samsung did a great job on this. The phone is very well optimized and super classy in hand; which comes with elegant case and wireless earbuds in the box. We are in the new era of fold-able screen devices and it would be great to see a new fold-able iPhone next year too.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from this site. Heaven forbid other companies
Are a “novelty” item but if apple brings one out in a few years you’ll will be ordering faster than you imagine
If Apple comes out with one in a few years, we'll be sure it will be a lot better than this device. The Fold is basically just a very polished prototype.

Does anyone seriously pretend like Apple invented the always one display on the Apple Watch? They just came out with a really amazing way of doing it which I don't think anyone else has.

If and when Apple comes out with a folding phone, it will be a phone that really works, and it will almost certainly do something more than just being a phone that can turn into a tablet. It will do something we can't do now. They will come up with something truly usable in the same way Face ID is truly usable (unlike Samsung's facial recognition) or the Apple Watch which while late to the market, was the device that really made smart watches a viable sector.

The 'Fixed' Galaxy Fold broke after one day

Samsung never had quality. Only quantity.
Typical Samsung. Be first with a technical feature of limited benefit. Execute it to barely adequate quality and launch a not quite finished product based upon an ego-led schedule. Then it flops and after a couple of replacements won't be supported. Having had the experience of working with one of their national sales companies, they are really terrible at launching finished products.

Sure, with Apple you end up buying much the same product 3-4 times over and it's the c. 3rd iteration that's the really good one, but at least there is product longevity (says he typing on his CMP 4,1) and reasonable support. Samsung have some nice sizzle and superficial quality but ultimately the products and ownership experience are not that far removed from generic Chinese items.

People make fun of the $2k price tag, but the iPhone 11 max gets pretty close to that point with 512 gig. A folding iPhone would probably cost $4k with 64 gig.

Indeed. But at least they're trying something innovative other than 5% faster and another camera module.
A folding iPhone would never exist until technology really is available.
And today it isn’t.
There is nothing innovative about a device you can’t basically use.

Truly flexible displays are new. One materials science step further to make the display as resilient as something like leather and the use-case becomes massive, far beyond just phones. The things you described while good are minor compared to the functionality that this technology may some soon offer.
I definitely don’t want a plastic screen on my phone. Now and in the future.

How are Apple pretending they invented the always in display?
