$1,000 base model, huh? I remember a year ago when the iPhone X was announced to have a $1,000 price tag. Wonder how many Samsung fans were scoffing at Apple and making fun of anyone they thought dumb enough to buy a thousand-dollar phone.

Now they’re all keeping their mouths shut.

Lol :D

128GB storage on the base model and 512 on the more advanced
6GB of Ram
Dual Camera with variable aperture
Quick USB C Charging out of the box
USB A to USB C adapter in the box
Micro USB to USB C adapter in the box
Quick Wireless Charging
4000 MaH battery
SD card slot for 600GB storage on the base model and 1TB(!) on the advanced
stylus pen
Iris scanner and fingerprint scanner, depending on what you like
Full screen without any places randomly cut out to place a selfie cam
QHD AMOLED display, probably best on the market
Headphone jack

Totally keeping our mouths shut, patiently waiting till Apple ports the TouchBar to the iPhone :D

THE ONLY REASON TO BUY AN OVERPRICED APPLE PRODUCT IS THAT APPLE STANDS BY THEIR PRODUCTS BAR NONE. This is the reason millions are willing to fork over their cash.

No it's not, stop it. It's the Apple logo and ecosystem trap.

What new technology does this phone have that commands $1,000 price tag? Apple brought a no chin phone with Face ID almost a year ago.

The upgraded S pen looks awesome and I wish the upcoming iPhone X Plus had something like it. My only issue with Samsung phones is they don't have stock Android and therefore take forever to get updates. If Google could make hardware this good combined with stock Android they'd have a true competitor to the iPhone.
That's not true. I bought galaxy s8 on June 2917. And I already have more than 8 updates on my phone.

Guess what? That chin and forehead obstruct more than a notch.
[doublepost=1533850037][/doublepost]

Samsung's bezel here is so big they put numbers on it.
If that was the case why does Samsung phones...s9, s9 plus, it's 8 and note 9 have a better screen to body ratio? No matter how you want to twist it, the notch obstructs the front of the phone more which is a fact proven by the screen to body ratio.

Because “Dan from MacRumors” is a quasi Fandroid who doesn’t seem to fully understand or embrace the Apple design aesthetic and product philosophy. His videos betray this. It’s one thing to understand and appreciate what the competition does well, but “Dan from MacRumors“ sometimes comes across as having a “grass is always greener” mentality, focusing on features that Apple products don’t have rather than highlighting the benefits and the overall experience that they do provide. Like many Fandroids, he doesn’t know the meaning of the word “featureitis”, and seems to subscribe to the believe that the longer the list of features, the better—regardless of the actual benefits they provide, or the user experience.

All needling of Dan from MacRumors aside, the other reason (and it is absolutely legit) is that Samsung is a major competitor of Apple’s and announcements like this are certainly relevant information for educated people who follow Apple news.
What is Fandroid? Is it the short form of Fan of Android? So is an Apple fan called Fapple?

why can't google bring down the memory requirements?
Because it's based off Java which always consumes a lot of memory.

I understand that for some Samsung fans it may be difficult to accept, but for really important things (like payments) on Samsung Galaxy phones, the Iris scanner is used exclusively (face recognition is used just for added security after the Iris scan) and this Iris scanner is less secure than a 3D topographical scan. Face recognition is even less secure. It’s 3d face map > finger print > iris > facial recognition.

But, as I said, believe what you will. Samsung is the best at everything. Sure, Apple invested gazillion of dollars and several years into Face ID because they weren’t able to put an ordinary infrared camera on their phone. Yes, because that was harder to do.
You could not be more incorrect. To start with the Iris is more secure then Fingerprints. FaceId falls between the 2. Iris is the most secure biometric method. Iris recognition to have no false matches in over two million cross-comparisons and a 1 in 10⁷⁸ chance that iris pattern of two individual matches.

Samsung brought small bezels many years ago. iPhone X's screen-to-body ratio is 82.9% which is worse than the recent Samsung Note/S phones (and many other Android phones to that matter). Read this article for more information.

Face ID is just one method of authentication. It has its pros and cons. Note 9 offers three authentication methods. It does not need more than that.

Note 9 does not offer a lot of new stuff indeed. It does offer 8GB RAM, 1TB storage (combined), BT enabled S-Pen, variable aperture cameras and a direct way of connecting to a monitor (desktop mode). This is something unique that no other phone offers (and in many regards exceeds iPhone functionality/specs by a huge margin).

You can use iris scanning with Samsung pay.

Iris scanning and facial recognition are two different ways of unlocking the phone. They aren’t the same thing.
But only Apple lets you use banking apps and secure apps with Face ID and Touch ID.

Samsung’s iris and facial recognition isnt used for any banking apps.

Yup more RAM and more specs and more battery. Because we all know in about a year (or less)the damn thing is going to slow down, battery wont hold a charge, and after two years it’ll stop getting updates. But awesomeness for having a SD card!!!

Well I’ve seen several videos where iris scanning and face scan gets fooled by a picture.

The tech. Inside Face ID is only going to get better. It’s MUCH more advanced.

FaceID has been spoofed as well, Biometrics are about convenience they can all be tricked if enough time is put into it. However the facts are FaceID has a 1 in 2 million chance of 2 identical scans where Iris is 1 in 10⁷⁸. Do you understand how big of a gap that is? Its a non contest. Iris wins hands down and i don't see FaceID ever getting even close. The data contained within an iris is only outdone by DNA.

Sound like you speaking on the iPhone. With it's PROVEN slow downs, bugs, and etc.

The iPhone X isn’t edge to edge either.

No, but at least it does not have thick chin and forehead and the bezel around display is minimal. Look at that Note 9! What is this? 2014?
I would take the notch anytime and have these superslim bezels all around instead.

The Note 9 has a better body to screen ratio. End of discussion. Im also having quite the chuckle that Apple fans are poking fun when the iPhone 8 and earlier had enormous bezels. While Samsung has had slim bezels for years.

Don't really care about screen to body ratio. Still have thick forehead and chin (like the phones of the past) And the curved sides are just an illusion to hide the bezel (and distort the view)

The iPhone X looks better but the note 9 actually has a better screen to body ratio than the iPhone X and trying to imply it has as much bezel as any pre iPhone X iPhone is just being ridiculous.

It's not "his opinion", Face ID is better.

It is better because it hasn't been cracked by the community and verified by the community of security researchers (don't give me crap about someone that claims they have made a mask and gave vague information, with nobody replicating the methods anywhere else).

And it's better because it works more times, after a bath, with the fingers dirty/sweaty, with gloves, etc.

Face ID doesn't work with kids, doesn't work with certain siblings, and doesn't work with some unrelated Asians. And Apple has put all their eggs in one basket going forward using only Face ID, while Samsung has 3 different bio options, all good enough for most tasks.

It's the typical Apple smug "they poured way more money into it and it's BETTER" while limiting your options. Time to wake up and smell the silicon.

Of course not implying that. Pre iPhone X iPhones had the worst bezels and all smartphones. However, I just can't ignore the fact that a company like Samsung can not make the chin and forehead of their flagship slimer. Not a deal breaker but arguably a better experience without them and makes the phone not seem so large while keeping the large display.

Apparently that’s coming next year for the S10.

They don’t look that big in real life the top and bottom bezels. I’ve never used an S9 (had the S9 plus) so I’ve never been able to put it next to my iPhone X but I think they are supposed to be the same size.

I think both designs looks nice although I do prefer the overall look of the iPhone X.

The iris scanner has only been cracked once. Never been done again. Just like Face ID.

Although I prefer Face ID because I never got iris scanning to Work properly.

Facial recognition has been hacked many times but it doesn’t claim to be secure. Iris scanning only got hacked once and it wasn’t with a simple picture. It’s not something that the average user can hack. Iris scanning that is. I love how people try and pretend that iris scanning is the same as facial recognition on android.

Sure, buddy, sure. And the Galaxy has the fastest cellular data speed and all that. Really great stuff for the next Ingenious ad.

Btw, that 1 in 10⁷⁸ chance is about two Iris patterns matching, it has nothing to do how easily you can spoof the system with a photo. But, as I said, it would sound really cool in the ad.

Yes, and for years they were more advanced in that area than the iPhone. Now, they’re behind and it’s ok. These things change from generation to generation. I’m having quite the chuckle that Samsung fans can’t stand it when Apple gets ahead in a certain area, even just for a year or two.

.

You cant spoof the Iris scanner with a photo, you are confusing the Facial recognition with Iris scan. Im very sorry but please do some research before trying to say Face Id is more secure then Iris scan because its just not, in fact it not even close. Face ID is great and its really fast and convenient and is more secure then Touch ID so its a great biometric option, but for pure security nothing beats the Iris.

Back on topic. I think it’s a nice phone although I won’t be buying it.

However even hardcore Apple fans like Rene Ritchie can admit that it does have some worthwhile features that would be great if we could get them on the iPhone.
