I thought this was MACrumors?
stop saying "we"... its I, me, you, your. The article's byline is an individual, not a group of people nor an indication of a collaborative effort.
I get what you mean I think, but apart from the Air, anything with an even slightly pro drive (bigger than 512) is priced way past anything I'd be prepared to pay now. I got the last 17" off refurb for $2500. A similarly sized 15" at the time was a lot more, and now it's ridiculous. With the insane port cand keyboard choices Apple's made, I finally got the 1TB 15" 2015 with discrete graphics for less than $3000 and I can still upgrade the drive for a fraction of Apple prices. It also has the brilliant MagSafe that I still can't believe those idiots deleted, because, you know, you'll definitely get the stated 8 hours or whatever running a pro app or even power sucking web pages. Don't forget Mail can also run at over 300% for minutes and spin the fans up, or even the mds processes that still can't figure out when power is connected and kill your battery real fast, and that's before you even do any actual work.Looks like larger screen machines are making a comeback across the industry which I welcome. Being able to offer a halfway house option between a 15 and 17 inch is a nice solution, I just hope they don't price it out of existence again like they did with the 17" in the first place!
Wow, some people are really hating on the 17. No probs mate, just don't buy one and bitch.the main page entry has a byline directly beneath the headline. Single person.
Oooo. That would be nice, but I could never afford that. Their (currently) scaled displays are expensive enough.Actually surprised it isn't 4k.

Yep, me too, but I never had to a use crappy little pc. I still use my clearance (2012) 17 for classic FCP and the 2015 rMBP in scaled mode for LightRoom as the screen is so good. There is no way I'm going to get any new Apple laptop till they make serious improvements and get over the current obsessive "design language". How many super portable machines do you actually need to keep trying to sell and pretend there's an actual pro machine in the lineup? Seriously, how many minutes rendering audio, video or graphics do they reckon you'll get out of a battery? I have no idea how many minutes of Xcoding either, but it doesn't really matter as background resources will kill the battery anyway.I bought the 17" in 2012 (they did refresh the CPU early 2012) and still use it nearly daily. My work PC was a 13" with a 1024x768 screen that i HATED for 4 years, compared to the near retina of the 17" display. I kept waiting to replace it with a new one but wouldnt settle for the smaller screen. but now work has given me a 15" MBPr and the screen is simply amazing. I would LOVE to see it across 16.5".. i could even deal with a larger package.
And my 17" macbook was like 1/2 the weight of the Dell Alienware 17" I had replaced with the apple.

Nobody likes the grammar police. The fact the author chose to use "we" and "we're" is an indication in itself that the review was a group effort.
If Apple releases a 17" MacBook Pro, it will start at $2,999.99
If you already don’t even want a 15” then larger laptops aren’t for you. Why exactly did you feel the need to piss on the prospects of people who actually DO want one??The 15" is already waaayyyyyyyy too big. I'd just get a desktop at this point and not tie myself down with mobile components.
Imagine a new 17in MBP with 6-8 TB3/USB4 ports! That would be amazing. Also, it could have a properly massive battery and pack some real power (With the thermal to properly cool it). I would love a 17" laptop, and I was really disappointed when Apple discontinued the 17".
Also, try lugging the the desktop over to the theatre room when you want use AirPlay. Yes, I know it's air play, but I can't control things on the other screen unless I stick to mirroring. If you already don’t even want a 15” then larger laptops aren’t for you. Lots of us actually do want a larger laptop, and we consider the “smaller at all costs” trends very limiting. I had a 17” laptop. I used it as a laptop and it was great. A desktop is only useful if you’re not planning to be mobile. Do you actually not grasp that?
Looks like they got the keyboard right, I just want Apple to get rid of the god-awful butterfly keyboards and Touch Bar.
Exactly. I hate trying to do spreadsheets, etc, with a single row. Only 2 or 3? I've had 4 and still have 2 running for memories and old systems/apps. The first 2 financed later ones, but then I could afford to keep them. I think the PowerBooks only came with a 1440 screen and the 1610 was just an option on the MBPs. At least the retina screen allows scaling to 1920 or even native 2880, but even with glasses that's a bit tricky.I owned 2 or 3 different versions of the 17" MacBook Pro and with each one I was bitterly disappointed Apple never included a numeric pad (it used the same keyboard as their 13" model and it just looked comical on the 17" version). I'd definitely buy a bigger screen MacBook Pro if it came out - but not if it has that disgusting butterfly keyboard...
Too right. I backpacked mine to and from work for about 12 years and it was barely noticeable amongst the other other crap. I'm impressed by people that can work with small screens, but I can't deal with all the resizing, app switching, etc, never mind being able to show material without having to connect another screen.Writing this on my 2011 17", man do I want them to make another 17" (with different ports!) I get that for a lot of laptop users who only travel with a computer a 17" seems huge. But for some of us it's the lightest, smaller thing we still carry. Is the 17" too heavy, no I'm an adult. Is it too big? No, the camera rig I have to drag thorough the airport with it dwarfs this mass. Why do I need something this big? I have 4 clients trying to review footage over my shoulder back at the hotel room, I need as much physical real-estate I can get.
Just don't make it cost three months rent and I'll buy a new one in a sec.
