I have an S5. Was going to really consider this but would like some of the additional rumored health sensors in it as well. Will wait another year.
I'm in a different camp - I couldn't care less about most of the health features, I just want a (much) longer battery life. That didn't really happen either, so I too will wait another year.

on a stainless steel series 4 and told myself I wouldn't upgrade without there being A> a major redesign or B>4 years pass. Looks like next year I'll take another look as this update seems a little lacklustre. Like most, I was really hoping for that flat edge redesign that was teased!

The flat redesign would be a blocky hunk of garbage unless it was much thinner than the mock-ups suggested.

Yeah, it’s the best feeling skipping through a few generations and then getting all the features in between them. I don’t get people upgrading every year just to have the newest thing and only getting a couple of new features. I’m on a Series 4 and probably updating next year if there’s a redesign or new sensors.
We don’t get you, either😉

Weird, I have a series 4 and therefore haven't upgraded in a few years, but the key thing that almost gets me to do it everyday year has been the always-on display. Not sure why you'd want to turn that off.
2 reasons. Battery life and illumination of any kind in the dark. I often turn theater mode on anyway, but even days where I don’t, the screen almost never fails to turn on.

I don’t understand why anyone would want their watch using battery while they aren’t looking at it…

How so? I really like the always on display on my Series 6, battery life is still excellent.

More battery life is always good. I do sleep tracking and do regular workouts that eat battery.

As I said in an earlier post I also work at night a lot. I don’t need some illuminated screen on my wrist all the time.

But the third and most obvious reason is that I’m not looking at it. Why waste battery life while I’m not looking at it? No thanks.

Didn’t pre-order, would love to know when can expect to actually hit the shelves.
This morning. I purchased mine right after they opened, no pre-order. I was second in line, my friend 3rd, and there were maybe 20 people in the line, total.

They warned everyone that they were a little limited in what they had as far as case/band configurations, but my friend and I both walked out with the case and band we wanted.

Even better, I saved 10% on the watch with my Veterans discount, as well as upgraded my “starlight” sports band (that I was likely never going to wear, have enough sports bands as it is) to a Maize braided solo loop for an extra $43. The silver SS pops with that color, I love it.

Other than a few minor frustrations here and there, like me forgetting my wallet in my car, things went pretty smoothly.

Real world tests seem to indicate better battery life in the always on display models... if you turn off the always on display.
fair enough, my AW4 for the first 1.5 years only needed charging every other day, and currently, with watchOS 8 I'm somewhere at 45-50% at the end of the day ... nevertheless, Apple never claimed > 18hrs

I have a Series 6 and have turned this off. Why do I need the display on if I'm not looking at it? I get better battery life this way too.

I could see having it on for certain situations where you can't move your hands easily (like riding a bike) but for me the every-so-slight turn of the wrist is simple enough.

Maybe I’m the only one, but I am a little tired of hearing reviewers say there is no compelling reason to upgrade to a Series 7. The larger display is really nice to me and so is the increased durability. But according to many of these reviewers that doesn’t t qualify as a good reason to buy a new Apple Watch.

That shows you how far from objective they are.

I never understand series 4 people who aren't upgrading yet. The always on display from series 5 was by far the biggest apple watch update ever
I have a 4. Always On Display seems (having not used it) as a nice to have, not essential. Could be wrong but ignorance is bliss (saves money at least). I generally don’t have a problem the watch face coming on. For me, the most important features are screen size and battery life. The 7 is interesting because of a larger screen and faster charging. I would be fine without a blood glucose monitor but I’d be upset if I went with the 7 and the 8 got a large battery life increase, as I’d want to get a SS or T model for the sapphire glass and wouldn’t want to update for 3-4 cycles.

All the reviews that say Apple Watch 7 is nothing special misled me. Granted I'm coming off Apple Watch 5. However Apple Watch 7 is a substantial improvement.

Mail.app performance is noticeably faster.
The bigger screen is much easier to see.
Having the keyboard makes a big difference.

I love it.

Great job Apple.

I think an understated upgrade from the Series 5 to Series 6 is the upgraded GPS. Many of the hardcore YouTube athletes like DCRainmaker and Desfit have videos showing how the S4 used to curve/take corners around turns during runs and hikes. The S6 fixed that. Could be another reason to upgrade if you have a S5.

Also, the screen feels a lot larger. The 1mm and the cutout gives a perception the screen is bigger than it is. I love it!

I’m on the fence with a 4. Also want longer battery life, but faster charging helps a bit and for all we know it’s 18 hours through series 9 or 10. I’d imagine for the 8 they’ll have a processor speed boost and a new health feature, which makes big battery gains for the 8 unlikely. My preference is 48 hours so you could fast charge for a whole day of use in minutes, and not have to worry if you’ll be away from a power source for awhile. Also would help keep the battery in the 30-80% sweet spot.

I have a 4. The first thing I would do is turn off the always on the MOMENT I got it. Sorry.
This comment makes zero sense. Please elaborate why, and also why you would have to turn it off the “MOMENT” you got it? You’re coming from a series 4 so AoD is a key upgrade feature. I can’t figure out any downside. You’re not gaining any noticeable battery life by having it off, so what else is could it be? Genuinely curious.

I upgraded from 6 to 7. I have wanted a bigger display for awhile now but my wrist too small for the larger Apple Watch. This series 7 display on the smaller watch should work great for me. It's not a huge change, but it's a sufficient change. I also really want the Starlight color. It's what I always wished silver would be, a bit warmer. Knowing Apple, this might be the only year they offer this color, so I'm going for it.

Oh and faster charging? Heck yeah! Sign me up!

It (along with raise to wake off) saves about 30% battery (on average) is why. For people who need as much battery as they can get during the day because they don't know when they will be able to charge, it can be a big deal.

Coming from a series 4, I am curious to know how much more responsive it is. From what I can glean from YouTube videos, not very. Bootup times seem almost identical.

coming from a series 4 it feels significant to me. In and out of apps, responsiveness when dictating, messages, email, etc.

Boot up time I have no idea. Something I rarely ever do.
