A friend got two for £1 at the one pound shop. I like Apple stuff but this article is a tad ridiculous. Nobody was anticipating it, nobody cared, it's a bloody piece of clear plastic.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I got one today and it’s going back. The buttons have almost no feedback, there are some sharp bits on the bottom and the bottom isn’t covered. This is a terrible case considering the price. I got a Caudabe Lucid Clear that’s also a hard clear case and it’s miles better in build quality and feel.

No need to apologize, it’s _your_ money you spent on something that you weren’t happy with. If you found a ‘Better Product’ that meets your expectations, then that’s all matters.

This case should cost $5. Paying more than $5 for a small piece of clear molded plastic, that’s a hard no.
It's interesting to me that you would suggest that particular price point, as my 3rd party iPhone X clear TPU silicone case -- which looks strikingly similar to this XR case -- cost me right about $5 on Amazon. I'm three months in now, with no indication of that "yellowing" issue -- nor, for that matter, any signs at all of wear and tear; I'm afraid I can't say the same for my previous case for this phone, as that case had nicks and scratches all over within the first few months, and was getting to be pretty raggedy looking by nine months. One guess who made that earlier case...

(Spoiler: Not that it isn't ridiculously obvious, given the context of this discussion... but yes, it was an Apple case.)

Apple is really ramping up ways to make more money before the end the year like price match their own product with the retailers. Desperate move in a lot of ways just so they can report big profit next year despite of slacking performance of iPhone sales. It's just a matter of time this company starts saving money like cutting down just to make their investors happy.

"Apple's highly anticipated clear case" - really? I had seen anything to suggest that.

So if you didn’t see it must not be real then. God people on here.

40 cost for the cut out at the bottom?

Yep just like all the Apple cases even the higher cost ones. Nothing new here.

I still don’t understand why their cases are all open on the bottom. I don’t even mind the price cause it’s the standard apple tax. I liked their smart cases for their iPads which covers the entire circumference of the device....that was a good design.

It was explained in the video. Gestures. As long as it is raised and not able to come in contact with a surface... What does it really matter?

It is still vulnerable to dust and other small hard particles which can brush against that exposed part and scratch it. I had my iPhone 6S in a case like that and the paint got horribly chipped from pocket dust.

Did anyone really believe this would be less than $40

Here's an idea... If it really is THAT big of a deal..... Buy a different case lol. Nowhere does it state you must you an Apple case. I am more than happy with the current design. Makes taking it on/off easy and easy to use with the gestures.
My OP was criticizing Apple's case. Then when I legitimately defend my position when questioned you say I should just use something else? Really? So I'm not allowed to criticize their case design? Have you never criticized the iPhone? If you have, perhaps you should just use something else? This is the weakest argument I've ever heard.

I was just wondering why someone at Apple seems to hate protecting the bottom of the phone. It's a ridiculous design decision. Furthermore, Apple's leather cases with machined aluminum buttons have, in my opinion, the best quality and feel of any case out there. It's just that stupid bottom part that ruins the function of the product, which is to protect the iPhone itself. If you don't like valid criticism then maybe you shouldn't be reading my posts—I recommend you click the "ignore" button on my profile so you no longer have to be burdened by rational analysis and observation.

Guessing it allow for the swipe up being easier without the Gap at the bottom..that’s all I can think of

I bought the Spigen Liquid Crystal case from Amazon and promptly returned it. It added far too much bulk and the bottom lip interfered with the bottom gestures. I'm all for 3rd party options -- like all my Apple Watch bands -- but I'm considering Apple's clear case for the better fit and bottom cutout. The XR is extremely slick and won't even stay on my Belkin wireless charger because it slips off with every buzz, so I need a case and want to see the color.

Spigen or Otterbox.. and why does Apple hate to protect the bottom of its phones?
The video clearly states why the bottom is open

That explanation makes no sense as Apple cases have been bottomless since iPhone 6.
Also so it doesnt interfere with the speakers. Apple has obviously identified that as an issue

Surely you must have known that the bottom wasn’t covered before you bought it?

Ah, no thank you. I can get the Spigen Ultra Hybrid clear case for the iPhone XR for about 1/3 the price on Amazon.

And nowhere near the quality. Also,I don’t like the raised corners on the back of the Spigen clear cases.

I want to know who at Apple hates protecting the bottom of the iPhone and why? This is the dumbest thing about all of their otherwise excellent cases.

It is so the swipe from bottom gesture doesn’t get impeded. I wish my case for my XS was built that way. Instead I scrape up agains the case edge when swiping. It is less than ideal.

Anyway, There is only a small portion of the bottom that is not protected and the phone will not be hit if the phone falls on a flat surface even with that bottom falling first. I’d gladly take that minimimal extra risk. Frankly, all I really want are the corners to be covered. That is where the phone is going to hit if it falls on the floor.

LOL. You work for apple, don't you ? That's the only explanation for the drivel you posted.

There's nothing outrageous about the price. It's an Apple case, that's all. It's how the world works folks, like it or not. HERMES is not going to sell a bag for less than $10K even if it costs $100 to make it. And their fans would NOT want them to sell them for less than $10K anyway. The production cost is irrelevant. The consumer decides what to get. People complaining really want to get the product but don't like the money they have to shell out. Just be happy with the $1 case from eBay then.

I know for a fact that Hermes croc and alligator hides are the very best in the world, chosen because they have ZERO imperfections. How much do they cost? I don't know, but I do know they are the best you can get.

This case on the other hand is a clear piece of plastic!!!!
