I'd held off buying a refurbished Pro 11" but now I'm wondering why?
Ordered the new Pro 11" last week, still hasn't shipped.
Does anyone know if the cameras on this new Pro has the same night time photography ability as the iPhone 11?

No night mode

Yeah... this was the biggest wasted update. Why bother? After a year and a half, same processor, one more core in the GPU, and improved cameras. Waiting till they up the battery life, put a mini LED screen in, anything.

Inspect your shinies. I got a few units today and one had a chip in the glass, another two scratches down the middle, and another with scuffs on the bottom metal. All fresh out of the box. Extremely disappointed.

Also of note, the chassis flexes like the old one, the camera on the back does not do portrait even though it has two cameras, the speakers sound no better, and the display quality isn’t improved over the old one as many already knew. So if you have a 2018 and I have the 1TB models, which already has 6 GB of ram, there is absolutely no reason to upgrade. Just get the magic keyboard.

Apples QC is so bad right now I’m actually embarrassed for them. Got a full refund coming. Not buying replacements. China has done enough damage for one season.

Waiting until WWDC to hear if there is any news on Xcode for iPad or not. Would love to retire my 2013 MBP and 10.5 iPad Pro and move to just the 12.9in + new Magic Keyboard.
I have exactly the same setup - 2013 MBP and a 10.5 iPad Pro - so would like to get the 12.9 iPP to replace both IF I could run Xcode/Python as well.

I will probably wait until the end of the year for an improved model. I'm looking to replace my early 2015 12" MacBook. I was deciding on getting a MacBook Pro, but the camera quality on those are still horrible and haven't been improved in ages. Even the iPhone and iPad front facing camera is much better. This is one of the big deciding factors for me. MacBooks do not even have FaceID yet either. The iPad is slowly looking more attractive as being a MacBook replacement for me.

I am pleased they didn’t upgrade anything I care about. I get to read the reviews and feel like my iPad is new again. Even downloaded the new wallpapers so it feels new.

Is there a way for safari to force the desktop versions of websites to load? Or will I need to use another browser? (and forgo iCloud Keychain :()

Its one of a few sticking points why an iPad wouldnt be a comfortable substitution for my MBP and I’d really like to consider it in the future. I already have a 2019 Mac Pro for when MacOS is necessary, but it’s a production machine so it stays locked down with Minimal processes / no iCloud etc.

Why change every year? Isn't that a burden on the environment?

apple changing every year is not much of a burden, but people puchasing each year- yep, sure. But you can mitigate this somewhat, if you sell your old model on eBay that might be one less manufactured iPad in the world.

Thanks for the feedback on FaceID on the iPad Pro, all. Maybe I'll plan on checking it out when Apple stores are reopened and it's relatively harmless to check them out.

Concerned a bit about the same, but have you tried FaceID on a newer iPhone? I despised it on my X, but on my 11 I rarely find it annoying.

I haven't, no. I have an X. It's such a crappy experience--and such a frequent experience multiple times per day--that I'm more interested in a refurbished 8 than an 11 if I buy another Apple phone before/unless they bring back TouchID or re-implement it

Nuts paying $1K starting for a 12.9" device with only 6GB DRAM in 2020. For comparison, $1K Pixelbook Go has 16GB DRAM.

Maybe Apple should've skipped the 2018 rebranding and focus more on porting MacOS to ARM.

I think you will struggle giving up MacOS for a pure IOS solution.

Xcode is honestly the only reason I keep it around. Have a Mac Mini I do most of my dev work on, but when on the go one device would be preferable to two.

I have a 10.5in iPad Pro and am waiting for the 11in 2020 iPad Pro to arrive early next week. My 10.5 is cascading to my son so he will have an iPad with pen support. For me the performance differences are not significant but the increased screen size without significant , removal of the home button were kickers.
Initially I thought the smart keyboard was very expensive - I have now decided that it is important to stimulate the economy so I will have to get one...

I received the 12.9-inch model this afternoon. Although it is not a direct upgrade from the 10.5-inch iPad Pro I have since 2017, the bigger display and smaller footprint (against the original 12.9-inch) is what I am looking for. True that it's not as groundbreaking as going from 2017 to 2018 model.

I’ve owned every top tier iPad model from the original up to the 2018 11” Pro. We have a family of 4 and Daddy buys the new one then everyone else gets a hand me down 1 generation. This will be the first one I skip. Not enough of an upgrade to justify the cost, though I think it would be a great upgrade from the 10.5” pro. I’m also intrigued by the Magic Keyboard.

RAM on an ipad is irrelevant, except for Safari apparently. It's a help for the ML stuff too.

chromebooks need ram because chrome is a pig.

Its another money grab. And too many buy in to it.

I'll never understand posts like this. It's a spec bump because yields are better, and a few minor tweaks included. I'm not sure why this is a problem for some.

If you have the previous model it's just not for you. If you have nothing or an older model then you can get a discount on an older device or nab this. (or grab a discount on this model at Best Buy if they're still doing it)

I’m still sporting my iPad Pro 9.7”. I was hoping for a big improvement on the 11” to finally upgrade but guess I’ll hold out longer. Might consider replacing my 2012 MacBook Air 11” with a new 2020 model though......

I'll stick with my 10.5" iPad Pro for a while longer. $1K for a basic 128GB 12.9" model and then add another $300 for the new Smart Keyboard with Trackpad. I'd rather buy the new MacBook Air.
The MacBook Air and the iPad are nothing alike. No idea why people say “well for this price I’d rather buy a laptop that has no touch screen, pencil support or iOS”. Well ok. Different products.

for a lot of us: price doesn’t matter. iPad is what we want. We aren’t just getting it because it’s supposedly cheaper than a MacBook. We want it
