Ok, I just picked them up and tried at home. They’re going back. The sound quality is very underwhelming. I have a pair of Bose Soundsport and the SQ is not even comparable between the two.
I never liked the flat sound of the Beats or Apple headphones. I thought maybe since they came up with NC this time, they improved their SQ as well. Unfortunately, it’s not the case. I think design wise they’re cute and light. They fit in my ears comfortably as well. For those who can tell the difference between well-balanced decent sounding headphones and flat sounding headphones, these headphones are not recommended.
Considering that many better sounding headphones are even cheaper than these, it’s quite underwhelming. These headphones are mostly for people who care about comfort and style. There is definitely nothing “pro” about them when it comes to sound.
Which ones would you recommend?

Out of the box failed to pair for me. Contacted support and they couldn’t figure it out either. Could never get both to work. The the pop up AirPods menu kept flashing better the two AirPods and showing different flashing different charge levels for the case. Hope I just got a faulty pair but others have had the problem too.

I received mine this morning. The pairing is much better than the original AirPods (hmm) which have been super cranky with iOS 13. Honestly, these are over priced. The "noise cancelling" capability is barely noticeable. It hasn't been responding to "taps" to enable/disable "noise cancelling" mode, but there are controls under the iOS bluetooth settings. They do fit well, however. I'll keep them, but don't expect any meaningful "noise cancelling" -- I'm sticking with my bulky Sony headphones for that. Yes, I understand there is a difference in compute and features and size, but I don't appreciate the selling of a feature that really isn't much of a feature.

Are you getting a good seal? For me these are as good as the ANC on the Sonys WF-1000XM3 which are arguably the best noise cancelling buds on the market right now. Sure they aren't going to match the over ears models but it's damn close.

This is exactly what mine are doing but they pair, charge and work fine.

Nilay Patel just took his on a flight and said this:

“Feel pretty confident saying frequent flyers shouldn’t give up their Bose or Sony cans for the AirPod Pros after this flight to SF. But regular AirPods sound bad and these sound more than fine, so that’s good.”

Why is he comparing in ear buds to over the ear cans? Also not everybody wants to wear big bulky headphones on an airplane (or anywhere in public).

Squeeze the stem to play or pause your music, squeeze it two times to skip forward a track, and squeeze it three times to skip back. Pressing and holding will also switch between different listening modes..."

Please tell me that TAP to skip, pause etc still exists? Having to squeeze is way clumsier/slower and not even possible when wearing a hat, helmet, mittens, thick gloves, etc!

Because they all have active noise canceling. Not everybody wants to wear IEMs either. I actually think it’s a little dangerous to not be able to hear your surroundings outside. But then again it seems many people don’t care about that

Apples and oranges comparison isn’t it? Sennheiser’s don’t have Active Noise Cancellation which is a key feature of the AirPod Pros. Among other things.

If you ONLY care about SQ, then the AirPods probably aren’t the right choice.

Hey now, I literally said this is a matter of personal preference. Also the Sennheisers have a seal that is equivalent to the effect the airpods noise cancellation offers.

The AirPods babe distinct advantages which is why I bought them and intend to keep them. Thanks for the feedback none the less.

That’s why there’s transparency mode. When jogging or biking near traffic - keep transparency on so you can hear your surroundings. When on a bus or train, turn it off to silence your surroundings.

Sorry - wasn’t meaning any disrespect. I was more clarifying for other readers. And there IS a difference between passive noise reduction (Senn’s) vs. active noise cancelation (Apple’s). I personally wouldn’t call them equivalent.

To your point though - they both have pros/cons. Each more ideal to different scenarios. But I think these discussions help people decide. 😊

Worked out today and had a walk in the city with the AirPods Pro, listening to a nice Camelphat mix.

It was shocking to hear only the air flowing thru my nose in otherwise loud environments (with music off).

Sound quality is fantastic; of course you want to keep NC on to keep outside frequencies from spoiling your music. I've found that I keep volume much lower while hearing the music louder, if this makes sense.

At the gym, people asked me about them (as I made an IG story of the unboxing), I let them test NC and some music. Their reaction? Eyes popping out.

I believe AirPods Pro will be a major hit for Apple.
Ha, funny, it just so happens that the first song I played while testing my AirPods Pro's (out of the box) today was a CamelPhat mix from my latest playlist.

I think the AirPods Pro's are awesome. They sound WAY batter, fuller, and richer than previous generation AirPods, and the bass is booming - something I wasn't expecting. In terms of sound, the only thing that I'd tweak are the highs, as they are lacking very slightly in some songs where the bass is heavy (and I've only noticed this in lower quality rips).

Aside from the sound, they are super comfortable, look more subtle in-ear, and I think that the noise canceling works very well for such small buds. When I turned it on, I was taken aback by the background noise getting cut in half immediately.

Also, the difference in your voice between modes as you're speaking (with music off) is drastic. You can speak as if there is nothing in your ears with transparency mode, which is a welcomed feature in today's open work spaces where earbuds are inserted most of the day.

Just set them up and listening to a bass playlist (thanks, forum member whose name I forgot).

They honestly sound better than I expected! No lie. Keeping them and passing my Jabra65s on to someone else.

Bass is surprisingly great! The rest sounds nice and clean. No distortions. It’ll take a bit to remember the force controls, but not too difficult.

They are also really comfortable. Like, REALLY comfortable.

Very pleased. Now waiting on my Nomad Base Station to arrive tomorrow!!

Impressive, these seem to target everything I didn't like about my gen 1 Airpods - better fit, sound cancelling so I can use them on a plane without having to crank them to full volume, no tapping which often didn't work right for me (though not sure squeezing is better?), better sound, better battery life. Awesome.

Can't wait for Christmas. Hopefully Apple can keep them in stock instead of "limited quantities" like the first gen launch.

I'll keep them, but don't expect any meaningful "noise cancelling"

Honestly, we have a QuietCool fan in our house and I turned that thing on to High and had these bad boys popped in. Couldn't hear jack and I tried both NC and transparency. The noise cancelling is pretty spectacular considering how small of a package you're using. I've had "high end" noise canceling headphones from Bose, JBL and Sony, and honestly this keeps up quite well.

They will fare well in a StarBucks or mall versus the Bose. The 3 sound modes work exactly as they should.

ANCkills most background Noise, ANC-OFFlets background through, and Transparency “amplifies” background sound.

There’s a little less “pressure” when no music is playing on the AirPods.

I can tell already my QC 35s are still going to be my airplane go to headphones. Even just by way of battery life.

For the size and connectivity, the AirPod Pros are definitely a game changer.

I agree 100%. Mine arrived a couple of hours ago and although I’m very impressed with them so far, they are no replacement for my QC 35’s. The ANC works good enough for everyday use, but I’ll still use my Bose when traveling.

The only issue I’m having so far is getting a proper fit in my right ear. I’ve tried every different size and the ear test still tells me that I need to adjust the AirPod or try a different size.

Did you try to reset them? Hold the back button until the light turns orange, and then white again.

Guys worth every penny. Noise cancellation works beautifully. Transparency is very cool. They fit extremely well and sound terrific. No a question worth the coin.

Anything that causes a price increase of 25% or more warrants the Pro moniker with Apple.
Definitely agree. They need to stop calling anything comes out after the initial release Pro. It's silly. There's nothing professional about them. Pros want wires. Wires produce far better sound. Anyway, they're definitely more of an upgrade from the standard AirPods.

Besides what the app is telling you, how is the right side functioning with ANC-on? Can you hear sound leakage or weak effectiveness?
