Not sure what you mean by “switch off”. If I’m at a point where I need to calculate something, clearly I’m no longer “reading”, am I? A context switch on an iPad is painless enough, plus I have the option to copy/paste results if I decide to take things in another direction with another web page and/or app.

There are already so many great sports apps available, I don't understand what purpose this serves. Especially given the News app has it's own sports functionality... Feel like I'm missing something.
Is this for my benefit or Apple‘s? Sounds like half backed data collection app.
The NFL is not currently playing. It'll be there when there are scores to display.
You don't know what I mean but in the next sentence, say the same thing as me. Switch apps obviously. But you knew that. I don't debate with people who debate in bad faith so have a good say sir, or madam.
It is probably due to contracts negotiations. The Professional Sports leagues can be notoriously difficult to negotiate broadcast contracts and rights!
What boggles the mind is people still dying on the calculator hill. Don’t be so cheap and go buy one.
“Switch off” could have meant quitting the app entirely, but whatever. Knock yourself out. 🤷♂️
Not being able to see my favorite NFL teams score this week really infuri…..oh wait.
Great, I hope this means they will remove all the sports stuff from news and AppleTV that I have absolutely no interest in.
Seems unnecessary since every major sports league already has their own app, but now that it's here I hope they add PGA and LPGA Tour scoring and stats. And maybe even LIV golf too?

Furthermore... Was it really important to develop this app now? They seem to have problems addressing bugs in other apps, many of which are still only available on iOS/iPadOS with no support for Apple Watch or macOS.

I'll bet at least a few people will want NFL support by the time the draft happens in late April.
It doesn't display news. It currently only does scores and standings so what would be the purpose of it for the draft?
You do know you're not the only person who uses those apps right?
(Some) people like to follow who their team picks in the draft. I haven't downloaded the app yet, so I didn't know it only displays scores and standings. In any case, in order for it to be a full fledged sports app it should allow users to keep "score" of who their team picks in the NFL draft and include the "standings" of all the teams at the event, imo...
I do. I just want the option to turn those portions off.
