I received a free 1 year offer and my last purchase was not before the announcement. I bought an iPad Pro and 2 iWatches Series 4 (wife and myself). The message showed up on my watch and on my Apple TV when it was released Nov 1. Again, I didn't buy this stuff in September, but before. Like early August I believe. I'll take the free year. But, wondering if anyone else had this happen to them.

The small selection is not the problem. Creating TV that is compulsive viewing is.

I've watched the first episode of each of See, The Morning Show & For All Mankind and I can honestly say I don't care if I ever see any of it again.

TV Shows really need to hook an audience on the first episode and ideally in the first 30 mins - none of these do that. They don't even suggest that there is better to come.

Apple have created a bunch of shows that nobody was asking for on a TV service that no-one needed because they know that services are where the money is now.

Apple TV+ is Hot Garbage. Even if this was free forever, I wouldn't bother with it.

I know there will be many on here that will enjoy these lame TV offerings but in this day and age, people are highly discerning due to there being just so much quality content elsewhere - they won't waste time on these offerings.

I know fan boys will jump on this and try and defend it but this is a company with untold money and resources that have failed miserably at the starting gate.

Wow - amazing how you know what *we* want to watch. “Hot Garbage”???

I know it’s hard but try to keep your post in first person and not like your speaking for “everyone”.

I checked out the first episode of The Morning Show - a top quality product that clearly works to everyone / gee just like the shows on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu...

How bout that. It’s called freedom to choose.

I wonder why they gave 1 year free? There are no obvious answers
Apple knew that launching a new service with not a great deal of content would be a hard sell. Giving it for “free” for a year applies if you buy something from them, so still got a purchase out of you. It also builds their viewer base as there is no price to stop people signing up. Then, they have a year to release more content. By the time the free period is over, they’re hoping there will be enough content and that you like that content to continue with AppleTV+.

I liked the Morning Show more than I thought I would but Rachel is a terrible actress. Cute as hell but she’s always Rachel.

Good or bad is subjective. My comment for first 10mins of the morning show is that: why alex using iphone but not using alarm function. and why ppl not charging their iphone while sleeping

Got a week free, won't renew.
It seems primarily designed for US audiences. It probably gives people who watch alot of TV for various reasons ( eg health, age, disability, pain, depression) something else to choose from which provides a distraction and temporary relief, even though there is alot out there available already and from different countries.

Genuinely curious. I currently pay $13/month for Netflix unlimited content. Why would someone pay $6 for AppleTV+ on top of separate $4/5 for (one) movie with Apple? I guess I can understand if someone wants to watch NEW content they will pay for AppleTV+ but why are people paying $4/5 a movie on AppleTV when you can get unlimited movies on Netflix?

Apple is not in the habit of getting rid of movies and shows like Netflix.

Bizarre - my friend just bought a new iPhone 8 through a cell carrier and he’s being offered the free 1-year subscription. And the carrier didn’t provide it. I thought it was only for new devices. But sure enough he got the offer and has started it.

Quality vs quantity.

I can’t seem to find anything worth watching on Netflix these days. None of their original content is resonating with me, and even their back catalogue is quite lacking (partly because I don’t live in the US). Just binged Kengan Ashura yesterday and that’s pretty much it.

Watched the first two episodes of Newsroom and it looks pretty promising. I am loving the dialogue and the interaction between the characters. Though I do have a 1 year free trial, so I guess it’s a moot point as to whether I am willing to pay for it or not.

Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.........Change the name back to Apple Computers! Not Inc.!! Stop telling us what to do, what to think, what to watch, stop lending us money, stop giving us credit, ....just STOP! Give us insanely great tools that are easy to use, and let US do our thing!! How I miss Steve..........

I think it is to three fold. First it will allow them to brag about how successful Apple TV+ is because they have millions of subscribers. Second, there isn't a whole lot of content today so it is likely not many people would even pay $4.99 per month. But by getting people hooked on a variety of shows for the first year, a lot of them may start paying when the first free year expires. Finally, if the rumors are true about "iPhone subscriptions" Apple could easily bundle Apple TV+ with hardware.

Not off to a very good start in my opinion! I watched the first 2 episodes of the Morning Show ...so boring!!😖I want my two hours back! Then tonight tried to watch See! Would not load and said “content not available at this time”

I don't think Apple is giving a free year to anyone, just checked, logged in and it's only one free week and then I need to pay: for the content available I don't think I will...o_O
Everyone who bought an Apple device since September 10th gets a free year, just like the article said.

smh i got a year free and STILL ive never been as NON-HYPE for a service as this, theres only like 4-5 shows and they are all lame pandering shows and nothing else like who would pay for this when disney plus is going to be so much better and theres still HBO, netflix, hulu, amazon prime with so much more to offer

Pandering?

You might have missed this bit, but Apple TV+ is optional. You are not required to pay for it, or even watch it if you got it for free. Hope that revelation helps you get through the day :D

Because Netflix shows doesn’t impress me? There are only a few shows I’m interested in Netflix so it doesn’t like it’s much better than TV+ and it costs almost 3X. I already unsubscribed Netflix and I can watch TV+ for free for a year. That $13 will likely go to Disney +and maybe TV+ next year.

I never thought I would say it but I friggin love Dickinson. I’m totally not the demographic - as a male conservative Republican voter in his 30s. This show has powerful energy and really drew me in. The acting is top notch, the characters are very likable (the way her father is portrayed is complex and real to the time period - he is a good father, but is stuck in the times).

They are very smart about how they throw in the modern touches too. For the most part, things are historically accurate’ish, but they add a flavor or hint of modernity here and there. It’s shot in a very fun style and the offbeat parts keep the show moving, instead of being a boring snooze fest, like some historical dramas I’ve seen recently.

Slam dunk, A+ show. Now, I can’t wait to watch the shows I was actually hyped for before signing up. If a show I cringed at in the trailers got me feeling like this, I can’t imagine how For All Mankind will make me feel.

Couldn’t make it past the Reese Witherspoon screaming rant.

Yeah, that’s bad but good news is it’s getting better from there, especially E2 and E3.

I am watching The Morning Show and I am just glad that they are portraying the male side of the #MeToo movement, all too often, the coverage is focused on the female story (and rightly so), but at times, the male could be the victim as well and the media doesn't cover that aspect and this show is trying to show that, however convoluted way it is depicting it.

So am I. I thought the Carell character would be a villain but he’s almost like a victim which is so refreshing to me.
