"All in all, while there are some useful features in the Series 4, there's not a compelling reason to update if you already have a Series 4. "
huh? someone really went lackluster with the editing on this post.
Personally I disagree that there’s no compelling reason to upgrade from the 4... if the always on display was the ONLY new feature I would upgraded in a heartbeat! It’s the one thing about Apple Watch that has always driven me mad. I have a 4 and I can’t WAIT to upgrade! (waiting for the Nike versions).
Titanium, a never before used material, is lighter and more durable than stainless steel, and $100 more expensive

It does also include the Apple Workout app for AOD -- doesn't show the hundredths of a second, but does show seconds. Can be a little difficult to read at an angle in direct sun with sunglasses and a smudged display, but is fully readable with a little shade. So maybe not as handy on a bicycle as for a runner. So the AOD is only for the watch face, not third party apps? Would love to have this feature for bicycling and other sports/activities where you want updated metrics but turning the wrist is inconvenient.
Got a Series 4 40mm and 44mm for $100 off each at Walmart, great deals to be had (but going fast)Buy an S4 on discount or patiently await the S6, should it reinvigorate the aging design.
The irony level is high.Proofreading would be good, several little issues with this article.
question, if no iphone at all, can apple watch be activated and work along?
In what ways were you finding the Series 4 inordinately slow?A cpu increase would've been a nice bonus.
Really? I'm in my 70's, with terrible vision and I have no problems reading the Series 5. As a matter of fact, the text is so large, it looks like a Fisher-Price watch to me.Once you get to your mid-40s, even if you have 20/20 vision you can’t really read much on the watch when you don’t have your reading glasses on, so it’s mostly useful for voice control, telling the time, dictation, taking the odd call, and notifications - things which don’t need a lot of space. I see a circular model being very popular.
The first day was challenging. Three days later, my battery life is just fine.I’ve always found battery life to be worse after setting up a new watch or phone. Happened to me with the series 4 and every update before. Those who are just setting up the series 5, I’d like to hear your experiences after using the new watch for a few days. I’ve found battery life always improves after a few days of use.
It’s been a huge upgrade over my S0.Yup... nice stuff but no reason to upgrade from a series 4
The always on faces have a low power option, as far as I know (the ones I have used). By design, essential information is visible but not the entire watch face.So what faces work with always on? I've always custom made my own custom faces in photoshop using the photos face option. does that not work with it?
I agree. I have an original S0 SS without cellular and was kind of annoyed with it as well. I have seen lots of silver aluminum ones and didn’t like how they looked. Kind of blah. But I didn’t want to spend nearly double for SS over aluminum this time around.I’ll likely pass on this one, even though I have a Series 2 version. I’m a little miffed at Apple’s ordering model for the stainless watch. There’s no option to buy it without cellular — something I have no need for. I love the look of my stainless Series 2. I can’t imagine why they don’t offer stainless without cellular.
Apple really baffles me sometimes.
They might implement small optimizations but I would be surprised if they’re able to do very much. I’m also concerned that if the battery is being drained very low each day that the battery will need to be replaced very soon. Lithium batteries don’t live very long lives when they are depleted every day.I upgraded from a Series 3 cellular to a Series 5 cellular, and the battery life is very noticeably worse. I would say I get about an hour or more less use time on the Series 5. HOWEVER, I still don't actually kill the watch and charge it every night anyways so I guess my use case is lucky. For anyone who uses their Watch more than me, it definitely might be a deal breaker. Hopefully they can improve this with more WatchOS optimizations? Wishful thinking?
